Williams working with Peter Jackson?

21 March 2008 - 02:12 AM

Peter Jackson and Spielberg are working in a trilogy of Tintin, and it looks like Jackson is going to direct the first one, and Spielberg the second. Altougth Williams is now 75 and some think that he could be retired in the near future, if Spielberg directs a movie the logical is Williams doing the soundtrack. As Jackson doesnīt have a regular composer, and Williams (almost sure) doing the secuel, nobody see this?? And going far away, Jacksonīs "The Lovely Bones"(april 2009) hasnīt attached a composer yet. Since Dreamworks is producing and thinking on a future work together on Tintin, what about Williams scoring LB?

First Impressions of TKOTKS

21 March 2008 - 01:49 AM

Hi guys, these are my tougths of what are going to be the first impressions on the new Indy score of some of the V.I.P. or M.V.P. members of this great forum:

Stefancos: Canīt touch any of the Goldmsith greatest works or the LOTR trilogy, but it is fine.

Luke: I love it! (but I seriusly consider that Giachinno could do it better...).

Joe: AVERAGE. It is not a piece of garbage like AOTC a.k.a "the worst score of all time", but canīt touch Raiders or Temple of Doom, maybe it is better than the OVERRATED Last Crusade.

King Mark: I love it! But damn, I whis the album would have include that little motif that plays when Indy shots his gun in the temple. I canīt wait for the complete recordings...
Another member: Mm, I think it could be a sound efect.
KM: nah, it is a motif, it plays again when Indy shot his gun again and kills the big snake.
Another (evil) member: Yeah I know what motif do you mean, but i heard rumours that Ben Burtt did it or that William Ross composed it.
KM (with Vadersīvoice): NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

Most of the members (include myself): Itīs a masterpiece!

I hope not hurt anybody feelings, it is only a joke, I love you all! (no homo!).
This is my comeback. Maybe some of you remember me. I register on april of 2005, and posted for a couple of months regulary. But my connection started to go very slow, so I stopped to post. Donīt know why, altougth I have try to "come back" a couple of times, I never did it until this day. But I have been entering the site every week since that, and I have always fun with your opinions. And I know a lot of more about the maestro and film music thanks to all of you. This forum is amazing!

My name is Ruben, Iīm 26. I live in Madrid. I studied journalism and cinema production, but Iīm working in the Fnac, selling dvds and soundtracks (I order the soundtrack section... and i also make reviews of soundtracks in www.fnac.es). I love cinema first (a very big fan of Star wars and Steven Spielberg) and I started to became a Williams and film scoring fan thanks to you.
When I stopped to post in the forum I had the SW scores and only a few more. Three years later I have like 40 Williams original cds and over 100 of others: Newton Howard, Giachinno, Elfman, and even Zimmer (yes I like some of his stuff). Damn, I realised that I have spend a lot of money! (And I buy more dvds than scores, and also comic books... Uff!). I have an Ipod of 30 GB full of scores (and with almost all the Williams discography). My last bougths are: Superman Box (amazing), Alien, The Omen trilogy and I am waiting for Amazings Stories vol. 1 and 3. I attend to the Soncinemad last year (the Silvestri concert was great) so I hope to see some of you in this year edition (and maybe in Ubeda!).

And thatīs my story. I wasnīt here officially but Iīve never left. I canīt wait for the Indy film (and score, of course!), Iīm sure all of us are gonna like it. Are you with me in my tougths? What dou you think the other members are gonna think?

P.S.: Iīm sorry for the long post and for my english, I havenīt write on it in a long time ago (in a galaxy far, far away :) )

The Batman Begins Composers Speak

16 May 2005 - 09:50 PM

The Music of the Knight
Excerpt taken from the latest issue (131) from SFX Magazine

'Batman Begins' shows there's more to Batman movie music than Danny Elfman...

Musically, the previous 'Batman' films - and the animated series - were defined by Danny Elfman's memorably gothic music. With 'Batman Begins' signalling a sea change in the franchise's style, the music is following suit by having two high-profile composers - Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard - score this particular Dark Knight.

It’s certainly an unusual move. "It hasn't happened in recent memory," claims Howard who, with Zimmer, spent three months at London's AIR Lyndhurst studios creating more than two hours of composition for the film. "We were terribly impressed with what we saw. The way the music had to feel was clear to us. The movie is very specific - complex and layered."

Why two composers? "We always joked about what if I wrote a cue and he finished it and vice versa," says Howard. "We reached a place where you can only do so many car chases moments etc -- so we wanted to shake it up. When Chris [Nolan] asked Hans to do this, he called me and said, 'How about it?'"

For Zimmer, the appeal was clear. "There is a nice division where I get to go dark with the music and James does the elegance."

Certainly, it’s an intriguing pairing that could work well, with Zimmer's action mores - best heard in 'Gladiator' - amply capturing Batman's war on crime, while Howard plies a focus on the pic's psychological dimensions. "We never really had a solid plan," says Howard, estimating that, "I have a stronger presence in the first half and Hans has the same in the second. There are two themes primarily. One relates to his journey and the other relates to the action."

The result, says Zimmer, should be unmistakably 'Batman'. "There's a lot of percussion, a lot of electronics, but, this is 'Batman', you're allowed to have the kitchen sink."

I canīt wait for the film (good director, amzing cast, the only thing that iīm afraid of is the writer) and for the soundtrack (I like Zimmerīs action shit)

New Jwfan.net fan/New John Williams fanatic

20 April 2005 - 09:28 PM

Hi, Iīm new here. I had visited this forum almost everyday since February I think. Today I have decided to register and start posting. First, Iīm sorry for my english. Iīm from Spain so sometimes my vocabulary and fluency are pretty bad. I hope you can understand me most of the times. This is my second post (the first one was in the profile topic), so sorry if this is a correct thing but I want to star a topic about me, a new fanatic to Mr. Williams and a new fan of jwfan.net. This is my story:

I love cinema. My dream is work in making films. Iīm a true fanatic of Star Wars, you know, Iīm a Jedi! I canīt wait for watch Episode III. I already have the tickets , I am going to watch it with a Jedi suit with some friends in the biggest cinema of Spain. Steven Spielberg is my favorite director and the soundtrack of a film is something very important for me. So you can imagine that I really like John Williams music.
I do really enjoy listen the music in films but was not a fan of listening soundtracks. The only soundtracks that I had were the SW ones (A new Hope in 1997, TPM in 1999, AOTC in 2002, ESB & ROTJ last summer, and the trilogy new boxset in october) and the LOTR trilogy last christmas. I listen a lot to the SW soundtracks when I was waiting for Episode II and now for Episode III. I can wait for the film, and I couldnīt wait for the soundtrack so searching for news I found this forum a couple of months ago, and guys I had to say that I love it. I think it is one of the greatest forums that I have seen in my internetlife. You post very interesting things and sometimes really funny stuff. I have started to be a soundtrack "lover" because of you, I think. I use soundtracks to write scripts but Iīm a newie in this world. I now that I love John Williams. I have only the SW OST but I have all Spielberg films on DVD (less 1941 and The Empire of the Sun that are not available in Spain, and The Terminal that iīm gonna buy soon), Superman, 4th of July, Nixon, JFK, so I really know his work. Iīm starting to have his soundtracks (by downloading them, I want to support his work but Iīm not rich and most of them are not available in Spain, but I promise that I am going to buy some of them) I can not stop listen to the ROTS soundtrack (I have written a review in spanish, I want to translate it to english and post it here soon) and can not wait for what Spielberg and Williams are going to give us in WOTW.

One final thing. I know that you had written this a lot of times but could you post for me your favorite John Williams soundtracks, the ones that you think are his best and the ones that I should have in my collection? Add more composers please, I also like the work of Hans Zimmer and some of his crew (Mancina, Powell, Harry Gregson-Williams) and the Heat score

Thank you, I hope to be a constant poster

May the Force be with you!
