Well, today is a good day. To hear students playing Catch Me If You Can in the room next to me at work, only to get home and have new Williams to enjoy. Love this track. Beautiful. Sweeping. Pure Williams magic. Today is a good day. -

Saw this yesterday. My biggest take aways were that it was a visual spectacle but I can't shake the feeling that almost everyone ended up in the same place and situation as at the end of The Way of Water. You could almost replace the third act of film two with this one and not notice much of a disconnect. Spectacular to look at. Not mad about seeing it but won't remember it.

I also hope any eventual 50th Anniversary physical release of the OT will take this restoration work as the backbone for a fully remastered version of the Special Editions. I've no doubt that they will remain the official canon versions and they deserve better treatment than the current discs (Empire and Jedi particularly). Just hope they take this opportunity to finally do it right.

So my theory with this is that yes it's the original cut but it's going to be more of a rebuild of the original. I think they'll be taking original elements and compositing shots digitally so we get the original version, but without matte lines or transparency issues. I also think this is for the best. Preserves the original work and presents an idealised version of the original theatrical cuts. This is based on the leaks included raw VFX plates and detailing additional cleanup work.

It's obvious what the four unapproved releases are. 1-3 is the LOTR trilogy remastered and as written/recorded with everything from the theatrical and extended editions with all significant alternates. 4 is The Star Wars Saga - The John Williams Music Collection. A massive XX disc set containing every we want plus a bonus disc of remixes of Disco Star Wars.

Weyland Yutani logo on bottom right of that image and T Rex skull in Predator Badlands trailer. Alien v Predator v Jurassic Park CONFIRMED! -
There's a strong argument that HDR is a bigger difference maker than 4K resolution, as aside from the dynamic range it comes packaged with the wider colour gamut. Problem is that HDR is a minefield of different standards and capabilities. Things to look out for: full-array local diming rather than edge-lit screens, DCI-P3 colour gamut coverage of 90%+ & a peak brightness of 1000nits+ (not that important for most content, but it will give you a big enough sandbox to handle most things you throw at it well). Dolby Vision HDR is a nice bonus and pretty common these days but by no means essential.

Nicholas Britell & Brandon Roberts - ANDOR (2022-2025)
Alan replied to Jay's topic in General Discussion
Just listened. Honestly, I'm surprised they included it on the soundtrack. A nice musical Easter egg for the end credits but the recording/mixing is awful. As you say, the winds are MIA, the percussion is almost nowhere to be found and the brass sounds off. Nothing wrong the the performance from the musicians. Just technically odd. -
My copy arrived this morning! Can't wait to give it a listen (currently ripping). I do wish that these sets that we pay a lot of money for wouldn't arrive looking second hand. The back of my case is really very scratched/scuffed. Clearly something that happens at manufacture since it was well packaged for shipping and wrapped but most of the CDs I get these days from LLL and Intrada etc look like this. A minor gripe though!
