I thought the film was average, but the score is quite good. The way Alan Menken rearranges the themes and motifs from the original classic score is very enjoyable. My favourite is the dark, tense rendition of the main theme at the 1:38 mark in this track: -

- Dogfight from Atlantis: The Lost Empire (JNH). I know it reuses material from the Leviathan cue, but still, it is a standout action cue. - Angler Fish from Finding Nemo (Thomas Newman). - Cavern Chase from Tangled (Alan Menken). - Clubtail Fight from Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (John Powell). - The conveyor belt music from Toy Story 2 (Randy Newman). It has easily the strongest performance of the Buzz Lightyear theme in the entire series so far. - Thanator Chase from Avatar (James Horner). I love this danger-filled predator theme that never appears elsewhere on the album. -

The Intrada page for the album currently shows "Back in Stock April 2026", so hopefully that means it's been selling well. I too would love to have the entire score, but personally I hope they release all the remaining cues from Golden Suns and Armstrong on a priority basis, which should comfortably fit on one CD. And @Doutor Sávio, great to see more love for What Goes Up. That really is one of my favourite cues too. I used to repeatedly watch the opening scene of "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. McDuck" for it in the old days. -

DUCKTALES 1987 (Ron Jones etc.) -- Cue Analyses

That's a cool observation. You could try adding this as a footnote at the end of the analysis of the cue, maybe? I think the high brass instruments (trumpets) more likely represent the ducks because of the way they adapt to the ducks' situation during the scene. They play minor chords throughout most of the piece and only switch to major towards the end when the protagonists successfully escape. Also, the flutes play tense notes right when the penguins follow the walrus out of the tunnel, so I guess they represent them. -

Finally, it's here. What a brilliant description of this GOATed action cue. I never realized that the main phrase had so many thematic connections in each of the layers of instruments! Tom Worrall did such a fantastic job with all the cues he worked on - Penguin Chase 1&2, Battle in the Candy Factory, and Dangerous Journey are absolute classics. -

Happy 94th Birthday to Maestro John Williams
Ravi Krishna replied to Bespin Copilot's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
Many happy returns of the day, maestro Williams Stay blessed, happy and healthy always. -
Can't describe my feelings in words, finally listening to "Escape From The Valley Of The Golden Suns" in all its glory for the very first time. Also so happy to see that "Battle With The Condors" is on the set. Also, the sound quality is just sooo crisp and pristine, especially remarkable since until now the best quality source we had were compressed 160 kbps MP3s for those few tracks on Ron Jones' website. This is just incredible!

@kenisu3000 From the Intrada thread - Thanks for the info. That's really interesting. But damn, I had been really hoping to hear Penguin Chase, Part 2 at long last. If all the cues from Armstrong and Treasure of the Golden Suns had been included, it'd have made a perfect DuckTales soundtrack. I do understand the decision to showcase the cues that are 100% Ron Jones, though. I just hope this album sells well and we get all these missing cues eventually. That said, I'm really looking forward to getting this set and checking out everything in there. It sounds amazing from your description.

Kenisu bro, I'm so happy for you. Your dedication towards this score is truly admirable. This soundtrack release is not just a priceless souvenir of our childhood but also a reminder that it is always worth holding on to hope and persevering for what we truly want. I just hope the album is well edited and mastered, and contains all the important cues from the score, especially from season 1. -
At long last, after 39 years... it is finally coming. Dreams really can come true. Thank you Intrada!

DUCKTALES 1987 (Ron Jones etc.) -- Cue Analyses
Ravi Krishna replied to kenisu3000's topic in General Discussion
What a fantastic analysis of this brilliant cue and the thrilling scene it accompanies. This is my favourite cue from the score too, along with Penguin Chase, Part 2. Indeed, if I absolutely had to choose only one cue to introduce someone to the DuckTales score or to hear being played live in an orchestral concert, it would be this one. And now I can better appreciate the meticulous thematic fibre masterfully woven through it by Ron Jones, after reading your excellent post. I love it when cues have short 5-10 second segments that are so brilliant that I can keep playing them on repeat without getting enough of them. In this one, it's the portion where Launchpad spins the plane and Slolee screams to "knock them out of the sky".
