John Debney scoring 'Predators'

27 February 2010 - 07:53 AM

This is a shame  I was hoping Silvestri would return. Debney has the occasional solid effort but Iron Man was nothing to write home about.

John Debney has been chosen to score the upcoming action horror movie Predators. The movie is directed by Nimrod Antal (Vacancy, Armored) and stars Topher Grace, Adrien Brody and Laurence Fishburne. Debney previously worked with writer and producer Robert Rodriguez on Sin City, the first two Spy Kids movies and The Adventures of Shark-Boy and Lava-Girl. The movie is set to open this July and follows Iron Man 2 as another high profile summer movie for the busy composer. The announcement ends speculation that Alan Silvestri might return to the franchise, as the movie is a direct sequel to the orginal Predator movie that Silvestri has scored in 1987.

'Hidden' statements of main themes that blow your mind when you discover them!

06 September 2009 - 10:07 AM

I just had one! The music at the end of THE LOST WORLD, when Kelly's watching the television report with all the footage of the SS Venture out at sea, is actually the main theme from The Lost World, slowed down! It just blew my mind then when I sped it up and realised it's the exact same theme in a different key! Brilliant!

Top 15 ESSENTIAL John Williams Cues

15 August 2009 - 01:19 PM

Let's say a deaf person can hear miraculously, and the first thing you want to do is introduce them to the music of John Williams. But they will cease hearing once they finish listening to fifteen of his cues. So of all the cues in his career, which do you select, and in which order? Basically, create a John Williams Best Of compilation, surmising the absolute ESSENTIAL cues of his entire career. An All Stars soundtrack, of sorts.

What's your pick?

An Indiana Jones Suite of all 8 major themes from the 4 films?

16 June 2009 - 11:04 AM

There was always talk about John Williams composing an "ultimate" end credits suite for Crusade, to cap off the trilogy with a recap of all the major themes. Ultimately, this didn't eventuate, nor for KOTCS. So I wonder if any JWFAN has ever done one themselves, using the four soundtracks? Sort of a surmation of all the major themes across the films. Would be exhausting but pretty neat, a bit like those Symphony for a Saga tracks that came out a few years ago.

If not, I might give it a crack! JW's album edits always puzzled me... they really ought to be condensed (esp for Kingdom and Crusade).
