  1. That's precisely right. This was our "near-miss" concert!
  2. I remember that night well!
  3. Maybe a little. But I'm hanging in there (left).
  4. The picture is from 2013 at a book-release event in New York. We both probably look older now, but we managed to outlive the bookstore where we spoke that night.
  5. Much like the great man himself, I've probably aged out of my "Johnny" years. Speaking of whom, everyone NEEDS to read Tim's book. It's fantastic!
  6. My full name is John Douglas Adams. So I'm kinda out of options for an original name. Thankfully, however, I'm apostrophe-free.
  7. Authors can't always independently announce these things. Publishers, publicists, etc. have a scheme they like to follow in order to make the biggest impact. I'm always amused by people asking, "Hey, is Product X coming soon????" Like creators toil away, but forget that they are supposed to announce a release date. "Oh yeah, thanks for the reminder! It'll be out Tuesday!" ... So the big reveal is the eleventh reply on some random Twitter thread. Anyway, give Tim some space. It's a big project, and there are a number of hands on the wheel. -Doug (who actually knows the planned release date, but ain't saying!)
  8. Specialty instruments are often recorded separately. Fiddles and whistles in LOTR commonly had individual sessions as well. Left more room for mixing choices.
  9. Generally when a piece such as this is commissioned for a particular performer, that performer is the only artist allowed to play the piece in public for a certain amount of time. I don’t know that that’s the case here, but it very well could be. At any rate, I’ll be at the Chicago concert. If anyone here attends, come say hi!
  10. Laugh if you wish, but I’ve already been interviewed for Williams’ obituary by a couple of major newspapers. (This was years ago, so there’s no new prognosticating involved. Just how these outlets operate. It’s still jarring to get the call.)
  11. The CSO played the full cue at Symphony Center, then the abbreviated version at Ravinia the next year. Must have been revised in the interim.
  12. It's the last four bars (or so) of Don't Touch That.
