ckappes, the point of this new release is that the original OST has been completely remastered and will sound better than ever before

 

I'm not sure, Jason. I do not like the way some labels remaster their albums. The mainstream prefer an detailed and shrill sound. In the case of La La Land, I experienced some negative issues, aurally.

 

I give you an example with Dragonslayer. The Sounthern Cross CD (I know it's a bootleg, but a very good example to show) sounds warm and soft; overall the instrumentation, the recording and so on. The La Land Land sounds dry and shrill. That seems a trend these days, in terms of music. Otherwise, Hook from La La Land sounds fine, did they remaster it, too?

Another example is Raiders of the Lost Ark from Concord vs. Polydor. It seems to have the same problem...

 

Also, I do not want to spend money with at least one CD, which I will not listen to.

I pass. The original album is enough. Better listening experience and the best tracks are there. I do not need more. And of course, performed by the LSO. The film recording is performed by an Hollywood orchestra. So the original OST is far superior.

If I recall it correctly, the mix for the Concord is from John Neal and the mix you hear in the film is the same on the DCC and it is mixed by Eric Tomlinson. As far as I know, John Williams approved the mix from Tomlinson - for the Star Wars Trilogy, but I don't know if he approved it for Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Williams and Tomlinson had a good relationship, maybe his prefered mix is from the film.

 

Otherwise the original Polydor has the mix from John Neal and Williams approved it, too.

This is the most pathetic bitching thread we've had in a long time.

 

it's hilarious and yet sad that every iconic John Williams score is on someones whiney ass bitch list.

 

Jaws, Star Wars, Close Encounters, Superman, ESB, Raider, E.T., ROTJ, TOD. all the greats from the John's masterful 10 year period from 1975 to 1984.

Everyone of these scores is above reproach.

You don't like them? Fine, but you're dislike doesn't change the fact that each and everyone of these scores is a masteripiece.

Each is exciting, emotional, and thrilling, a few of them actually are game changers.

 

Yes John has scores that are strong, and some are weak, not every score is a home run. Sometimes he uses musical choices that don't fit the sensibilities of the folks here. Uni says anyone could have written The Adventures of Tintin, really? anyone? The score is so John William, again it might not be to your liking but the score screams John Williams, actually it scream Johnny Williams. No current film composer would have gone where John went. I'm not sure that they could or would have dared to try.

 

I find it funny that so many here are easily accepting of the sci fi, or fantasy but yet the contemporary sounds of the 70's are so off putting. Hogwarts and Middle Earth are easy to swallow but that stuff from the 70's can't be real can it?

 

Then there is Schindler's List. What's not to get about Schindler's List, it's a lovely sad score remembering the Holocaust. What's to get. It's not an intellectual endeavor, it's a score that's meant to be felt.  But to be felt would suppose the listener has the ability to feel, and I'm beginning to wonder if some here have that ability.

 

Anyway carry on with your bitch fest, I'm going to go find my inner John Williams, he want's me to play The City Sleeps, and all will be well.

They're all exactly the same.


Fail! All Main Titles from the original Star Wars scores are different in instrumentation. Only the Prequel scores are exactly the same and uses the orchestration from The Empire Strikes Back.
