New Laurence Rosenthal interview available online

18 July 2011 - 08:43 PM

For FSM's recent double-feature release of THE COMEDIANS & HOTEL PARADISO (still available, as of this post), I conducted an extensive interview with the great Laurence Rosenthal. Extracts from our conversation appear in my printed liner notes, but the uncut interview contains a wealth of additional detail -- on these and other Peter Glenville collaborations, such as RASHOMON, MAN OF LA MANCHA, and A PATRIOT FOR ME.

The interview is now up in its entirety on the FSM webpage, free for all to read and enjoy:

Thanks to Laurence Rosenthal for his kind permission to post this. He is a man of robust good-humor and keen intelligence, and I hope that in reading his words, you are able to get a sense of the personality behind so much incredible music.

1941 - 2CD Expanded Score by La-La Land Records

05 July 2011 - 06:10 PM

From MV on the FSM forum:

At the beginning of the year we were racing toward Comic Con with 6 titles, hoping that at least 3 or 4 would make it in time. As the days grew closer and the problems/delays started to mount up on some of those titles, we started to rethink our approach. Once mid June hit and we realized that only 1 of those titles was actually going to be done, we decided "WHAT THE HELL", unleash the Chosen One early to the world. Four of those titles will not be done in time for the Con.

These four titles were going to be:

Batman Forever Expanded Archival Collection
Forever Young Expanded Archival Collection
Space Above and Beyond (3 cd set)
1941 (2 cd set)

Those titles are still coming -- When? Who knows....but they are in the chute.

Needless to say, no one is more excited about this than me. :) (And no, I didn't write the notes ... I just REALLY LOVE the score, and know this is going to be a real revelation!)

This, combined with more Shirley Walker, is the most excellent news one could hope for in one day!

Too fun not to share...

If Beethoven had written the Imperial March:

He also does "Star Wars" in the style of a Baroque Gavotte, and many other goodies. :)

Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings

04 April 2009 - 11:42 PM

From GameSpot's recent Q&A regarding the upcoming cross-platform game (forthcoming on Wii, DS, PSP, and PlayStation 2):

GS: Who's handling the music?

MV/JS: When you hear the original John Williams music from the Indy films, it just gets your heart racing, so we just had to incorporate those pieces into the game. Additionally, our music supervisor, Jesse Harlin, went to the vaults and found some really great music from the Adventures of Young Indiana Jones TV series that we used as well. Finally, to bring more uniqueness to this story, composers Gordy Haab and Ray Harman created some really great original pieces that have odes to the classic John Williams music.

Jesse Harlin previously wrote music for Republic Commando and also supervised The Force Unleashed. I believe this will be the first Lucas-related project for Gordy Haab and Ray Harman, although I may be mistaken. Both composers have a number of IMDB credits under their belt, although nothing very major.
