The Edmonton Symphony (Alberta, Canada) is planning an all-Williams concert in September to celebrate John Williams' 75th birthday year. One work we MIGHT perform is his "Variations on Happy Birthday". We can obtain a perusal score, but it's always helpful to actually hear what the score sounds like once it's "assembled". There is no commercial recording of this piece of music. Has anyone heard the "Variations"? I'm curious to know whether this is a "cerebral" set of variations, or a "fun" set of variations. Better yet, might someone have a bootleg copy of the original Tanglewood performance from the mid 1990s that they might be willing to share? Thanks! Rob McAlear Edmonton Symphony Orchestra
