iPod/iTunes question

I now have more music on my computer than I have room on my iPod.  What is the easiest way to manage what goes on my iPod?  I thought it was a simple as 'unchecking' the songs in your library.  Well that does work fine, but when I go to listen to those unchecked songs iTunes will not continuously play them, it will just stop after each one.  

For example,  I don't want Djawadi's MOH score on my iPod.  So I unchecked each track.  That worked, its not on my iPod.  But iTunes wont simply play the album unless each track is 'checked.'  

It's probably a simply solution and I'm just missing it.

What podcasts, if any, do you guys listen to?  I listen to the ForceCast and the IndyCast.  Does anyone know of a Star Trek podcast that is at the level of these two?
