Trailer looks bad... it has a low budget look with overly dark scenes to maybe hide this. The world and set design gets even worse from film to film - Dune 1 had only average to bad design and now it even looks embarrassing in my opinion for a science fiction film. Stone walls and sand... and depending on the planet the stone and sand colours change, that's what i call lazy design. Really disappointing...

That would be horrible, an absolute desaster! How can you wish for such a thing, you should know better. Let's hope the producers know the basics about franchise filmmaking and at least keep Hedwig's Theme and the general musical style. Zimmer in general is bad news. There is not enough creativity and complexity in his scores anymore. I fear we will get more pseudo intellectual and very simplistic low quality scoring...sad. No, i disagree. It is very badly shot and by far the worst shot of all 8 films. It is completely dull and lifeless, devoid of colour and magic, which really takes you out of the movie at times. It just has a depressing and really bad visual style for a Potter film.

Could you ask Laurent if during all his behind the scenes work he got any insight into John Williams work method regarding general thematic cataloguing. This is still a bit of a mystery for me. Does John Williams create a sort of fact sheet with all important themes and motifs for each score. Something like this i asume would also be needed for orchestrators, music editors and directors to identify all the thematic material in a given score. It would be so interesting, how JW approached this topic over his career.

What Is The Last Score You Listened To? (2025 Scores)

100% agreed, the power anthem theme worked very well in the film and fit it like a glove. One of the rare recent Zimmer stuff i liked (in the film). The Tron Ares score on the other hand was utterly horrible. What a shame and embarrassment. And this after the very good power anthem like Tron 2 score. -

This doesn't align with the following article: CELEBRATION: Jonathan Hales, Co-Writer Of Episode II Posted By Chris on May 5, 2002 Jonathan Hales, who co-wrote Episode II's screenplay with George Lucas, spoke to a packed hall at Celebration II about what it was like to collaborate on the script, along with what brought him to such a gem in his career. Perhaps the most illuminating thing that came of the talk was Hales detailing the story credit: "I worked with Lucas, it was both of us from the beginning, two people talking in a room at Skywalker Ranch about this story." From there Hales produced a story treatment. In the interim between that and work on the first draft of the script, new ideas came into being that made their way into the story. Hales was given a great deal of freedom to create - which he described as treating with great reverence - while Lucas had finaly review oversight of the script: "it's not that George owns the ball, he owns the stadium as well," Hales said. Of his contributions to the script, he is greatly proud but there are "a few regrets", including his describing the Jedi Library as being "shelves of books stretching into infinity." While ILM designers omitted the books, Hales lamented that "we are a book culture. This is what we have. I'm a very great believer in books." That the Jedi would still have (and use) manuscript pages thousands of years old held a romantic allure for Hales. Other things came out remarkably well: "I like Dexter Jettster. He's a very funny character. I like Jango as well." Hales came to meet Lucas and producer Rick McCallum when work began on "The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles". He comes from a previous background in theatrical and television writing. Writing for Star Wars "has been unlike anything I've ever done," he said... but was confident that we've an incredible tale that he and Lucas have crafted in Episode II. -

I just lost my complete answer due to auto loggout while writing... when i pressed reply it dissappeared into nirvana...so sad Well basic point was, story is everything and the mindnumbingly stupid sequels poisoned the whole Starwars franchise. There is no franchise ever built on shiny well acted, well casted stupid, braininsulting boring nothingness. But the greatest franchise can be built from a great story in a great book, nothing else is needed. -
Finally ordered, not directly but from a European retailer. Otherwise the customs procedure is a hassle. Really looking forward to it.

Secret of mana - "The Color of the Summer Sky"
-
Does any one of you know the track "The Color of the Summer Sky" from the Secret of Mana SNES videogame soundtrack? I recently discovered this track (and also the soundtrack) while playing the NINTENDO game and somehow this melody really connects with me, i really dig it. In my opinion this really is one of the best upbeat and feelgood melodies i know. Maybe the novelty blinds me, but at the moment it rivals almost any similar music or melody in a film score or classical music. It is simple and elegant but musically still complex and varied enough that it doesn't get boring after multiple listenings. The strength of this melody really shows, when listening to some of the more orchestral arrangements/covers (with real instruments), which can for example be found on youtube. The Color of the Summer Sky - Video Game Music Preservation Foundation Wiki OST / Original SNES game version Some great arrangements and covers

This may be part of the reason why their collaboration yielded one of the absolute best and most unique scores of the last 30 years. I can't praise the PoA score enough with its never stopping inventiveness, creativity and unique feel. In terms of JW interviews it always seems like it lies in the shadow of the first two while it should be the opposite. It would be so interesting to get to know JW opinion on PoA, and how he feels about it in comparison to HP1 and 2. Back in the day there were some rumours that the PoA score and Cuaron's new approach put him a bit out of his comfort zone and therefore may have been more demanding and maybe a less pleasant experience for him than HP1. What a great and important man Richard Dyer was and what a great loss his passing is. Fantastic that Maestro got him to participate. The treasure trove of interviews and behind the scenes material he created was heads and above anything else that was done on JW (maybe with the exception of the BBC Empire Strikes Back documentary, or was Dyer even part of that one?) @Maestro I don't know if you ever went into this, but one thing i always was curious about is, if and how JW catalogs his thematic material for each score. Does he have a special sheet/map for each of his scores that contain the main thematic ideas (all themes and side motifs of a score)? During creation of his scores he surely must have had some sort of scrapbook, where the wishes of the director and his thematic solutions are worked out and put into the structure and backbone of the score... Or is his official "catalog" each concert version he creates for the worthier thematic ideas of a score? Still, there are so many great themes and motifs that never received a concert version and somehow seem to have been "forgotten" in the underscore.

How do you know how much was done during pick-ups? Is there a list out there? Do you have a link? True, compared to Dune 1 and 2, the Starwars Sequels were really really bad. The OT and PT of course are another story.
-
😄 Please don't forget, that i am only nitpicking here about what's in my opinion missing for Dune 2 for a 5 star rating (or 10/10). In my review post i gave the film 4 out of 5 stars (8/10). So for me it was a very good film, but no galaxy spanning sci fi epic and the score was servicable with a great love theme but a dissapointing rest and a rather bad sound of the music in general. And i think you didn' read my post careful enough, because i never had a problem with the planet Dune itself. I wrote before that Dune/Arrakis was realized very well, including design, epicness and ecosystem. My main problems were the design and realization of all the other planets, houses, space, societies,... which in my opinion were done mostly bad, bland, lazy and boring. If you have a galaxy spanning storyline and only one planet is done great and the others are not, then sorry you don't deserve to be called a sci-fi masterpiece.

It's so funny when people, who are not able or don't want to enter a meaningful debate, instead try to put other people's opinion down like bullies. Let's hope you just had a bad day and that's not your standard behaviour, when encountering differing opinions you don't seem to agree with.
