I think what MSM is referring to is not transposing the piece from its original key to C but rather take the transposing instruments (french horn, trumpets, clarinets etc.) and writing them in concert pitch. I agree wholeheartedly about this idea. It would allow most people to study scores quicker and not have to tranpose in their head every staff or so.

When people say he rips off Schumann or Kahacaturian, do you mean he steals everything? I have noticed some things that sound like other classical works but I think if you look hard enough you can find that anything anybody has written sounds like another piece. I, myself, see a man who was inspired by these previous pieces. Of course, there are people on this board who are so much more knowledgable about the pieces that Horner borrows from. Can anyone give me an example so I try to better understand what he is doing? -Thomas (who rips off Copland like nobody's business)

I am as big a Williams fan as the next guy, but it seemes Horner always gets a bad rap. I will concede that he has a few ideas that seem to pop up in every score and that a lot of his themes come very close to the works you can tell he is copying. However, I respect Horner very much. While he is in no way as creative as JW, he does a very good job at writing music for films. Glory, Braveheart and the Beautiful Mind were all great scores by an obviously talented guy. I am not saying he is the best that ever lived or that he is even in my top 3 but I see no need for the constant bashing of him. Just my two cents -Thomas Lieutenant Kije by Prokofiev

The restatement of the main theme at the end of Glory has always been the saddest piece of music to me. When you see Matthew Broderick being buried on the beach, among the men he loved so dearly, it always reminds me of the sacrifice that people like you and me made for freedom. -Thomas (A closet Horner fan)
