  1. Trillionaire author Brandon Sanderson on who he would like to score his upcoming Mistborn movies. The first is still a few years away at least, unfortunately - he's working on the first draft of the script these days. But the deal is done. And it's good to know his preference is for an old-school orchestral thematic score, although the composer decision isn't 100% his choice. But I can't imagine - given the level of control he has over the adaptions - that we'll get something generic and non-thematic. P.S. Who is this Alan Silverestri composer about which he also speaketh?
  2. My god, that's beautiful... I had high hopes after the word "empathy" kept getting thrown around, and now I'm more excited than ever for this score.
  3. From 16:13 "His score has an arc, like characters do." Perhaps that means it'll make for a great storytelling listening experience... if we get most/all of the score! And some talk about the contrast between the scores Close Encounters and Disclosure Day....
  4. It could be the real cover as Spielberg mentions in this interview that he designed the poster. I forget exactly where in the video, but he talks about Williams from 15:00.. Nothing in particular about the score. Oh wait, the interviewer says he thinks it's Williams best work in years. Spielberg agrees - well, he wouldn't disagree and say "Nah, it's shit".
  5. Good luck...100 books - Congrats! I just an idea for a question, if you have any details. Posted here and quoted below...
  6. My guesses for three out of the four are the rather obvious due to previous work on Spielberg films and Star Wars: Thomas Newman John Powell Alan Silvestri For the fourth, Brian Tyler or Michael Giacchino also given some previous connections. Less so with Brian, but Williams has met him a few times, and Spielberg chose his music for the Indy 4 trailer. Brian talked about the moment he realized that in a recent podcast. Understatement to say he was happily stunned! Actually, that would be an interesting question for Tim. As Williams listens to film scores far less than perhaps most or all here, exactly how familar is he with younger (unneccessary word) composers? Hans Zimmer gets a brief mention in Tim's book. But what about Bear McCreary, for example - too young to appear on his radar? Obviously Thomas Newman is a friend of the family, played violin on the ET score etc, so Williams probably kept some tabs on his career as well as the personal relationship through the families. Sudden idea: Ha, I wish instead of just going for Williams, Spielberg had said, "Ok, I'll ask them all to write and record a score - and we'll release them all. But for the movie, I'm going with whatever you write." I want to live in that parallel universe. How did I get stuck in this one? And wow, all this talk of empathy makes me much more excited for a really emotional "empathic" score.
  7. I thought Harry said an expanded Gladiator 2 was in the works? I don't recall where, but on my list of upcoming releases, I wrote that, and I only add to that when there's announcement or quote from someone to indicate it's being worked on.
  8. Oh, I thought I was special! But actually, the release date for The Netherlands is June 11. I'm special again! What a rollercoaster of emotions! And actually, a Netherlands related personal anecdote. Late last year, I assisted award winning Dutch journalists BOOS with their investigation into a Korean "charity" I'm familiar with. It came to their attention after actor Jasper Demollin quit acting, sold his house, and devoted is life to that Korean "charity". I don't want to get off topic so I'll say no more!
  9. Wow, I just read that Disclosure Day opens in Korea on June 10, two days ahead of the US/global sans South Korea release. If I weren't already living in Seoul, I'd move here! If the soundtrack doesn't drop before then, this will the first time in a very long time that I've seen a Williams-scored film before listening to the score. June 10 is Disclosure Day Day!
  10. This thread is full of surprising surprises! There'll be a link to this thread under the definition of the word "surprise" on Dictionary.com before the month is over. And that'll be no surprise.
