If Pacific Rim is just a kid's movie, then so too is any fictitious or imaginative work that flies under an R rating. I know that I as a 30 something childless bachelor would be pretty bored if I had to stick to realistic accounts of adult situations that must be plausible or provide some message to improve my romantic or financial status. I would simply stop watching movies.

I thought about that, Alex. A prehistoric super disease that manifests at the major extinction events. Paleozoic, KT boundary, and the others. It kills enough then goes back into dormancy. And we have unleashed it.

Think Andromeda Strain, but from below.

Ah! But if this is from, like the Archaean, how could it be adapted to attack complex multicellular organisms?

Fair enough, but there are plenty of beneficial single celled organisms that we depend on atop the food chain. Yeast. Algae. Many plankton. The unicellular organisms inside us. And those that recycle nutrients in the ground and water. Eliminate them and we, like a Jenga tower, will suffer.

In any case, he should make a decent Star Wars film. He's clearly well suited for that. And that's my main reflection after watching Into Darkness.

The director of the next Star Wars films aren't my concern. It's the script. Hell, give George Lucas a decent script and I think he could direct a good movie. He did it once. He just grounded out to short his next three at bats with poodoo scripts.
