Summer in L.A is officially arrived last Friday, June 19, when the Hollywood Bowl opened their 10th Anniversary season. Highlights of the night included performances by inductees Josh Groban and Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Roger Daltrey and Angélique Kidjo (...) Six years ago, John Williams was conducting the Boston Pops in Alan Shulman's Theme and Variations for viola and orchestra. The soloist was the Pops' principal violist, Cathy Basrak, who is also assistant principal violist of the Boston Symphony. Director Steven Spielberg, in Boston to receive an honorary degree from the Boston University, was treated to a surprise performance by John Williams during a Pops concert on Saturday night. Williams took the podium at Symphony Hall and conducted a tribute to Spielberg that included music from E.T., Hook, Schindler's List, and the Indiana Jones movies.
