JOHN WILLIAMS INTERVIEWS

Video Interview with John Williams

From the Empire Magazine Indiana Jones special (see photo of the article here):

"Returning to Indiana Jones for 'Crystal Skull' has been wonderful. It was like riding a bicycle. I didn't have to re-learn how to do it. I began work and within an hour or two I was back into the rythm and spirit of the piece. It's also been a great opportunity to take another romp through the imaginations fo George and Steven. Working with these two gentlemen is always a joyous experience. We get along as people so well, we have the same sensibilities and tastes about scenes, and we hit upon something that works, we all seem to agree about it. That's another way of being in sync. On all four films, it has been filmmaking that is more play than work ."

SPIELBERG ON WILLIAMS

Excerpt from the Empire Magazine Indiana Jones Special:

"John Williams hasn't forgotten how to show an audience a good time", says Steven Spielberg on the Los Angeles scoring stage where the musicians are 'taking five'. "It's so exciting watching the images become infused with 120cc of pure Johnny Williams adrenaline."
“John Williams and I have a word we use when we have something we think the audience will love. Maybe it’ll be a little over the top, and we ask each other, ‘Are we being too shameless?’ In a way I think we’ve both grown kind of proud of being shameless.”

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

John Williams began working on the score to Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull in October 2007.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull will be the first film score to feature the Continuum Fingerboard, an electronic piano keyboard that uses sensors to detect every motion of the player's fingers. The 'Continuum' has been used in other movies such as War of the Worlds and Superman Returns for background ambiance, but never as part of a film score. Composer/orchestrator Randy Kerber, who has worked with John Williams in the past, played the instrument in the Crystal Skull score. Click here to read an interview with the performer. (Note: Contrary to what the article states, Kerber did not write any music for the film).

An interview with clarinetist Donal Foster, who performed on the Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull score, revealed that the 10 days of recording sessions wrapped on Thursday, March 6 at Sony Pictures Studios in Los Angeles.

In this short video taken during his recent visit to Detroit, John Williams discussed briefly his recent schedule and mentioned that  Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is 7 reels.
