New Williams Work for Brass Ensemble to Premiere June 12

A new work by John Williams for brass ensemble and percussion will be premiered on June 12 during a special performance in Sonoma County (California). The piece was commissioned to Williams to celebrate the birth of the National Brass Ensemble, a collection of musicians from across the US featuring 26 leading brass players and two percussionists from the nation’s most prestigious orchestras.

The program also includes excerpts from Giovanni Gabrieli’s Sacrae symphoniae (1597), arranged for the National Brass Ensemble by San Francisco Symphony principal trombonist Tim Higgins.

The first edition of The National Brass Ensemble residency will culminate in the recording of a commercial CD at Skywalker Sound including Gabrieli’s piece and the recording premiere of the Williams commission. – National Brass Ensemble in Concert.
