  5. In the late seventies, I was a huge Star Wars fan, so naturally I went to see Battlestar Galactica. To my disappointment, I saw a film that merely wanted to sail on the waves of the mighty Star Wars. I was, however, a loyal follower of the TV series. What can I say, I was really hungry for sci-fi in those days. Most of it was bad though. The only filmmaker who could match the greatness of Star Wars was Ridley Scott. I'm still waiting for the next sci-fi master, someone who will rock my world all over again. Will it happen? I sorta lost hope by now. Alex

  6. I'm not opposed to the idea of seeing a film at the theatre mulitple times, it's just harder these days to justify the cost with ticket prices more expense than a half and half with a prostitute. I saw the Towering Inferno 3 times at the theatre, saw Jaws 4 or 5 times. Saw Star Wars 8 times ( I was finally old enough to drive), Close Encounters 4 times, Jaws 2 about 6 times, Superman 12 times, ESB at least 12 times, Raiders about 8, E.T. 8, Return of the Jedi 3 or 4, TOD at least 4 times. But then ticket prices were cheap

  7. I think those issues with references to the past are the exact problem LotR creates for this new trilogy. How much do they rely on nostalgia and nods and commenting on the connection to the older material and how much of the film is new and fresh. AUJ sets things up with a lot of references, starting the whole movie with a frame story set during the eve of Bilbo's 111th birthday party. The two sequels do have the opporturnity to explore really some completely new ground as Rhovanion or Mirkwood or Long Lake are an unwritten page as far as LotR films are concerned.

  8. Your Nordic types! What has happened to you? You use to go all over the world in your long boats. Looting, pillaging! Remember when you used to be explorers?

  9. Right now, my plane would just be taking off for Boston via Reykjavik. The next few days will be a bit painful to read, as everyone is gathering together for this awesome event.

  11. Williams ain't no one trick pony. He shines just as much in the quiet moments as in the grand brass sections. Small monuments.
