  1. I have no idea why I'm doing a thread on an expanded issue, as I'm perfectly pleased with my old Varese CD of this, but I thought it might be interesting to everyone else: http://www.musicbox-records.com/en/49-fitzwilly.html

  2. if it is AI, i hope it contains ALL of the promo music. As a bonus (but tricky if they have to pay again the performers) i would like the songs there. And the album alternate of abandoned in the woods. And all the remaining missing music

  4. I've received my copy of Black Beauty as well. I've already listened to it twice and I have to say it's a lovely score.

  5. Makes sense, because MoS sounds nothing like Batman.

  6. I'm betting on one of those two myself, Maurizio. The latter would be just divine. As much as I like the original album (ignoring the abysmal songs, the presentation is very interesting), there is such a great opportunity to present this score in a more narrative order with improved sound. Not to mention tons of unreleased (commercially) cues. Karol

  7. No, that would be Roxy Music. Not that I'm a massive fan of the genre, mind. More of a new wave/post-punk guy myself. Well, there's definitely some good stuff there too. Oingo Boingo is my favourite -- for obvious reasons.

  8. Oooooh, I see some familiar Shore rhythms in there!

  9. Let's just assume that Shore nipped out for a coffee break every time one of these photos was taken. Nothing to worry about...

  10. Same here. Fantasia's my favourite Disney movie, closely followed by Dumbo.

  12. It is only one scene: 14 additional minutes of the trolls burping, farting, and snotting.

  13. In exactly one week, AUJ EE will be released (well, the digital version, at least), and there's still no official list of the added scenes. Weird...

  15. Yeah, it's been a good year, althoug it's been a VERY long time since we got a new, previously unreleased score. I can't even remember what the last one was.

  16. Vol 1 without Vol 2 is ultimately unsatisfying, as the ending explicitly says this is the middle (or beginning, chronologically) of the story. Now I don't see them as intertwined with each other as say, the LOTR films, but they are incomplete without each other...and watching them back to back was incredibly entertaining still. I dont know what music plays over the intermission of The Whole Bloody Affair, but I love the orchestral surge of The Lonely Sheperd as the credits of Vol 1 starts to roll.

  17. I enjoy large chunks of Man of Steel score and that Zimmer does a lot more with his chords this time around that he did in, say, Batman films - there is a definite storytelling going on here. I get his Midwest-like approach for the character and how it connects with a more modern era Thomas Newman defined Americana. And his New Age Krypton sound design. And the finale track (the one from trailer) is among my most listened single tracks of this year. Having said that, Zimmer in general is simply not what I'm looking for in film music. I came to love the medium because of a power of a symphony orchestra and the skill with which older composers conjured musical worlds. It's what gets me and what I'm looking for - there is simply no substitute for that in terms of the thrill aspect (for me). Nothing against Zimmer as a musician/producer/person, it's a valid approach and good that we get so much variety in terms of different backgrounds, genres and styles in music. Plus, he's done some really good work here and there, sure. Karol

  18. Are there Nazis in it? Yes. Are Nazis bad guys in the story? Yes. Is it "yet another Nazi movie?" No; it is about a girl and foster parents and books--unless any movie that takes a negative stance on the Nazi's is your criterion for "yet another Nazi movie." My point is that you can only make so many movies in the environment until it becomes tedious. My problem with your "question" is this: you clearly know it is a movie set in Nazi Germany. Are you really asking a question about the movie's plot or are you simply expressing your tiredness of the genre in question form?

  19. Don't worry, he's already hard at work on the score to There And Back Again!

  20. Melange

    Halloween classic films

Evil Dead II? I haven't seen it since teenage, but I think it would make a good Halloween movie. It has just the right balance of eeriness and humour to make it an unusual film.

  21. The issue itself doesn't say anything in the interview with Shore about the piece, but the issue shows many sheet music excerpts, parts for chorus, for orchestra, the whole score and so on. One of them is a sheet for Renée Fleming, titled "rotk 1005 1021, Twilight and Shadow". In the above right corner it reads Howard Shore words: Philippa Boyens The Evening Star (Sindarin) Above the stave, above the tempo mark, it says "CD TRACK #1". The sheet shows the part for Fleming, as well as the choral accompaniment. And even though the progression is very similar to the OST track, the melody takes different turns and has a more direct quote of the Evenstar theme. I did a quick mockup (the oboe is the Fleming parts, obviously):
