We get to see large amount of shadows floating around in the air when he "confronts" or when Gandalf steps into "him". He then uses his staff to create a protective light shield (reminds me of the dementor shield spell, Expecto Patronum seen in Harry Potter), which prevent the shadows to get closer to him. It looked very exhausting for Gandalf, and he could barely keep the shadows away. Then after Gandalf has kept the shadows away from him and used his spell for a while, we get to see an enguled fiery figure in the shadows, and you can see that the figure has the shape of Sauron. Then Gandalf says "Sauron" after it cuts back to him, then Gandalf gets "pushed up" against the wall by the shadowy power - then it cuts to the mountain, and Bilbo & co. Maybe Bilbo can elaborate on this, I find it quite hard to explain. The eye is seen briefly when he shows himself as an fiery figure as Sauron. No, it is no howering eye ball. We get to see the necromancer first in the movie when he speaks with Azog (I can't remember what he said), but this is when Azog sends away Bolg, and a group of orcs to find the dwarfes in Lake-town. When the necromancer speaks to Azog, all we see is a large shadow on the wall of the ruins of Dol Guldur.2 points -

It all depends on who recomends... Since I try to collect every single concert work recording, I'll get it as soon as I can and will judge it by myself.1 point -
Dec. 5 2013 - Williams Conducts The Houston Symphony! With Yo-Yo Ma!
Joni Wiljami reacted to King Mark for a topic
From the review: "Williams and Ma's combined box-office power enabled them to set a Houston Symphony record, the orchestra said Friday. Thanks to the addition of stage seats, the orchestra sold more than 2,800 tickets - a new high for a single concert." I think this is significant. We seem to read a lot of stuff like this now, all his concerts instantly sold out, how Williams music "saved" the Brazilian symphony season, how his concerts almost feel like a rock concert...etc.. It means he won't be a footnote in music history, his music really SELLS tickets ,and maybe were not just a few obsessed geeks on a internet message board who like his music1 point -
Ouch. Sorry to hear that. At least I hope it provides some information I didn't know from before. But then again, hardcore nutcases like myself might not be in the target audience. I'm still hoping Andres can answer my questions regarding an English edition and if he will make some sample pages available to viewing.1 point

Indeed. Any signed copies definitely should hang onto. I have Superman Returns OST which is signed by Ottman. Although that particular one I bought from a fellow JWFANer...I can't remember who though. I even kept the promo for Superman Returns which I got from Ottman himself because he signed it for me.1 point -
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug! A better, darker and more serious film than the first! Smaug is simply stunning, 10/10 to Smaug's design and all the Smaug stuff. It is just amazing!1 point

Favorite John Williams Chord or Chord Progression
ShowUStheHOOK reacted to Ludwig for a topic
A new great chord to add to the list from The Book Thief - at 1:05 (but listen to the whole segment from 0:55). http://youtu.be/Au8iyNFhLX8 It's the good, old Neapolitan or "flat II" chord, which is a major ("hopeful") chord in a minor ("hopeless") key. Not only that, but a flat scale degree is generally a sign of something tragic, so building a major chord on it is an ironic twist on the untainted "happy" sound of major. The perfect choice for a film about finding something positive in a dire situation. So simple, but extremely effective.1 point -
Hehe, well the music on that website might be from Zimmer's score. Sure, it's generic. But I haven't heard anything that in that "heroic vein" (on a trumpet solo too) from Zimmer in a while. If that's Zimmer's theme for the film, it's actually a big step up from his Batman and Superman scores. I don't think Zimmer has started the orchestral recording sessions yet, because it's obviously a synth mock-up now. I was pretty sure it was a mockup too, but Hybrid Soldier over at FSM claims it's the real deal-- with Arturo Sandoval on trumpet and Marr on guitar. Just listened to this for the first time. Holy crap, ring the bells, proclaim a holiday, Zimmer uses a trumpet for a superhero! Too bad it sounds like the ensemble patch from a 10 year old mediocre sample library. Honestly, if this is a real human being playing the trumpet, how the hell did they manage to move it even beyond the aural atrocity level of Vangelis' synths? Sounds like he's mimicking Horner's style from part one. I don't get it. If you do that, why didn't you keep the better Horner in the first place, meaning Horner?1 point
