  1. I was fortunate enough to attend these recordings and the first day was a success. I'm not allowed to divulge the location, but I had the very welcome pleasure of meeting Bruce Broughton, Don Davis, and Michael Giacchino today as each of their compositions was recorded today. I was lucky enough to meet a few fellow members of this website as well. The pianist, Gloria Cheng, is extraordinarily talented and hard-working, and everyone was extremely humble. This project is going to turn out nicely. The level of professionalism that goes into a recording project such as this is quite remarkable, and from witnessing the entire recording session I now have a greater appreciation of the craft as a result of it. Tomorrow, the Alexandre Desplat, Randy Newman, and John Williams works are to be recorded, with Desplat the only one who will not be in attendance. The pieces that I've heard this far are all unique in style, and I think the album will have a broad enough variety to make it an enjoyable listening experience. I don't feel like I'm getting ripped off at all. I hope to have more positive feedback from Monday's sessions!

  2. By "composer," I believe he means classical composer, or rather one who is classically trained with an orchestra. As it has been said countless times before, people want Zimmer to write music that he doesn't want to write.

  3. I know exactly what you are saying BB, and I agree to an extent that the score has that going against it. For me I don't personally mind it as much, mostly because once I knew the chronological order I started listening to it that way instead of the OST order, and it does help, especially in knowing where in the film you are (helping with that narrative through line thing) Overall, I think this is a case where the lengthy two-CD set being available le right off the bat hurts the score more than helps it. Had Shore been tasked with whittling the score down to 75 minutes of highlights, surely most of this "repetitive" third act music would be the first thing to not make the cut. You really could make a killer 75 minute cut of this score, which would have the extra benefit of attracting more of the casual fans of the score. And then 5 or so years from now when we finally got the rest of the third act score we would have appreciated it more, more likely.

  5. Typical Spielberg. Can't even be subtle about his ambiguity.

  7. The Trip (2011) Edited down film version of the Michael Winterbottom comedy starring Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon as theirselfs. Coogan is in a point in his life where his Hollywood career isnt really lifting of and his relationship is failing (we're on a hiatus). He goes on a food trip through the North of England eith fellow comedian and (sort of) mate Rob Bryden, The natural rivalry between them is both o source of welcome distraction to Coogan as an annoyance. Because Bryden often comes of as the better impersonator of celebs, certainly the more eager one. And while Coogan's live and career isnt going as well as he wants to, Bryden seems perfectly happily married, well adjusted and he is actually more in the limelight as a performer. Both Coogan and Briden give excellent performances as versions of themselves, with especially Coogan painting a not always flattering portrayal of himself, and a man who's deeply insecure. Yearning for his girlfriend, yet at the same time sleeps around with other women. Bryden doesnt seem to have any such issues, and uses this trip to relish in his love for impersonations, especially his impressive Michael Caine. He also has a habbit of subtly sticking the knife of Coogan's slightly depressed state in a bit deeper. Unlike most movies where the characters go on a road trip they dont arrive back home unchanged with a new perspective on live. This may not make for the most exiting movie ending, but it is actually quite realistic.

  8. No one comes between me and my Nazgûl music. No one! "Begone foul dwimmerlaik, lord of Inappropriate thematic uses! Leave the composer's original intentions in peace!" A sword rang as it was drawn. "Do what you will; but I will hinder it, if I may." "Hinder me? Thou fool. No living man may hinder me!" Cried Kühni, now obviously beyond redemption. Then KK heard of all sounds in that hour the strangest. It seemed that Incanus laughed, and the clear voice was like the ring of steel. "But no living man am I! You look upon a Moderator! You stand between me and my obsession and passion of hearing the composer's original intentions. Begone, if you be not deathless! For living or dark Zimmerite, I will smite you if you touch the original intentions of Howard Shore.'
