  1. I couldn't find a previous thread on this piece. Anyways, I just revisited it on the Yo-Yo Ma CD, and it's such a heartfelt piece with shades of SCHINDLER'S LIST. Does anyone know whose funeral it was written for, back when it was 'elegy for cello and piano'? Edit: Well, it's always useful to read the liner notes before I ask questions. In it, Williams says:

  2. Someone should have a go at restoring that recording of the Mephisto Waltz sessions. Fascinating watch.

It's much less obvious and clear-cut of a choice choice than I thought, say, a few days ago. Karol

  4. THE RIVER WILD - Jerry Goldsmith As drab as i remembered it. A quick cleaner job after Maurice Jarre's more archaic take got the boot, Jerry really did a sit-down-strike on creativity to deliver what is essentially an expansive 100-piece orchestra doing second-hand imitations of RAMBO and THE WALTONS. While being much too slick and professional to be called bad, it's so uninspired and mechanical in its very calculated effects that it - Murphy's Law! - figures that it is the sole candidate from Goldsmith's vast library of genius to receive the honor of being featured as the only in-depth demonstration of the composer at work for Fred Karlin's docu. After receiving much more unbelievable expansions of movie soundtracks in the last 10 years, it isn't really hurting the cause (that Jarre's vastly more engaging score is on disc 2 helps enormously) though it still figures that now even Jeff Bond of FSM regards this as something to remember. Trivia note: this was the first of Goldsmith 'wet' scores after being a relatively dry fellow before - this one really sounds huge and epic though it sadly doesn't help to hide its vacuousness.

  5. Scroll up a few posts and see how to properly use it! The search engine works completely fine; There's user error preventing you guys from getting the results you want, not any problems with the search engine itself. Use it properly, and it works great. Garbage in, garbage out.

  6. I'm sticking only to the official information (i.e. stuff that's released by Lucasfilm or Bad Robot). I don't want to know any more. I am a bit STARVED for new info, though, since the last thing we really got was the teaser trailer over 2 months ago (I guess also the character name cards shortly after). Hopefully more info will float out on SW.com, or in the Star Wars magazines, etc, soon. In the meantime, I'm enjoying SW Rebels and am looking forward to the second issue of Marvel's comic tomorrow.

  7. Yes, it's one of JW's most heartfelt and moving pieces ever. The theme is actually an expansion of an idea originally found in the score for Seven Years In Tibet (the final cue, "Regaining a Son")

  8. The bastards at Sony Classical would surely enchant it with a divine spell causing everyone taking any CD out of it to be instantly electrocuted, leaving the box behind for them to recollect. Then again, what are they going to do with all the recollected arks?

  9. So Jaws 4 gets a comprehensive C & C score release before Jaws and Jaws 2 get one?

  10. This is what you're talking about, right? Although it sound exactly like an audio rip and not part of an "expanded soundtrack."
