While not exactly a feature film surprise a la THE BOOK THIEF to look forward to, this certainly came out of nowhere. Williams is good with these little "sports ditties" (be it the Sunday Night Football theme or the Olympic themes), so it should be good.

I think Scherzo was faster than he took it on the OST - it was great! It was cool, I was at the first public performance of this piece when it was in Chicago, and now I got to hear Williams do it as well! Williams is sitting 8 feet away from me in the audience. I had no idea he was there until the conductor pointed him out. I'm at the end of one isle with he at the end of the adjacent one.

How did JJ Abrams become famous? I mean he is a big name director, the kind the general public knows. Up there with Nolan, Tarantino, Peter Jackson, Camereon etc when it comes to "brand recognition". But those directors have made film that really were massive hits. And are beloved by both the audience and critics alike. Up until The Force Awakens JJ has never had a huge blockbuster hit. Most of his films have done very well. But not exceptionally so. Every single film he has directed is a derivative of a already existing "product". The third Mission Impossible film, two Star Treks, an 80's Amblin love fest, and of course Star Wars. There's no sense of auteur-ship there, like there is with other popular name directors. I guess i heard the name first time in association with a TV show called Alias, which was apparently the best thing since sliced bread (never watched it). Then it was Lost and that Godzilla homage. One which he only directed the pilot for, the other he only produced. Yet it was quite big news when JJ Abrams was announced as the director of Mission Impossible 3. Of course now JJ really is a big shot. But I'm struggling to see where the genesis of that fame lies. One of his great talents, moreso then his actual skill as a film maker is his ability to market a product. Create a hype. Get the people talking about something. This is undoubtedly one of the reasons Lucasfilm and Disney wanted him to direct their first new Star Wars movie. Since the reputation of that franchise was not good at all. It certainly looks like he succeeded in making Star wars seems attractive again. But his biggest coup does seem to be how he marketed himself to the top of Hollywood by way of a collection of decent, but ultimately average films. Or am I missing something?

For the first scene, you can literally just use the FYC track. The OST probably has the correct speed and it omits the swell of strings that probably doesn't belong there, so OST material can be edited into the middle of the FYC track as desired, but I'm just using the FYC track as-is for now. For the second scene, you are correct. We also don't know where the cue starts, of course - it blends seamlessly with the preceding interrogation scene in the film. Could be its own cue, could be all one big cue.

A combination of pot luck, timing and a new generation of undemanding audiences who have crap taste.

This is awesome and so very random! I love how random Kobe Bryant being a Williams fanboy is! To think Williams is collaborating with him on an animation about his retirement is about as unexpected as news gets on JWFan.

Shore really hit a homerun with that one. I mean it runs the gamut from beautifully emotional to menacing, from peaceful to heart-pounding. It's really everything a thriller score should be.

It looks tacky and very passable, but no worse than any of the other comedies coming out lately. Doesn't really deserve the flack it's getting so early on. Most of the hate stems from affection for the original.

Edge of Darkness - Howard Shore

I just want enjoyable escapist fare. You know something the current DC films cannot deliver.

No. I'm sure Marvel will know what to do with Spider-man better then Sony.

Nothing for me this month. I plan on eventually getting 10 Cloverfield Lane, but I don't care at all about autographed booklets so I'll just put it on my Amazon wishlist for the holidays. I have like three big mailer envelopes stuffed full of autographs from LLL.crammed between my Elfman box and a globe on my CD shelf. We've been so well covered by the specialty labels in the last ~10 years or so that I think at this point the only historical releases and expansions I'm interested in are Williams and Elfman. I can't think of any "holy grail" type movies that could get me excited about their scores.

I completely understand goofing off in an orchestra. It's just what happens. I spent years in the trombone section, and was often the root of the trouble there, which made me the root of the trouble ensemble-wide. BUT... to actually be disrespectful to the conductor, or composer, or arranger, especially if they're present, is beyond the pale, and Williams was right to get fed up with it. There's just no reason for that, it's common decency and musical fellowship. Why be an ass?
