ABSOLUTELY there is. No, absolutely not. They were fine by 1997 standards, but completely outclassed by the great work the boutique labels have been doing since 2007-present. All three of those releases are incomplete, with much of their music sourced from inferior masters and/or remixed poorly. New editions would be better in every way. Put it this way: Matessino himself has publicly posted that he would love to tackle them all again and make them better if given the opportunity. We all want those as well.

    War Horse MUSIC Discussion Thread

Remembering Emilie and Finale has become one of my favorite JW cues. That piano solo followed by this delicate horn solo, and those strings ( the cellos especially....goosebumps) And this : Absolute beauty.

http://www.finalemusic.com/blog/may-the-fourth-spotlight-on-joann-kane-music/ Interview with Mark Graham from Joann Kane was posted today in honor of May the 4th. He talks a lot about how Williams orchestration process has changed, and a fun anecdote about a Harry Potter cue that Williams forgot to write in on a sketch that he needed string parts for: Sound's like Knight Bus? Any other ideas? Tons of little tid-bits for discussion, so I thought I would start a thread.

Interesting article! I wonder if I'll live long enough to witness a commercial release of those Finale files...

    Looking for Android Music Player

I did the trial and LOVED It and chose to purchase it. I've been using smarphones since 2009 and in all that time have probably actually bought a total of 3-4 apps. Poweramp was completely worth it.

It's paid yes, but it only costs a few £s. IMO it's absolutely worth buying.

Desplat was absolutely on fire in 2014

It's definitely one of Desplat's best. An impressive feat considering he had to compose and orchestrate the whole thing in less than 3 weeks.

One or more of the three suites from the end of the OST I assume?
  32. 1 point
Yeah... I would say from doing years of classical music study, this is where about 70% of classical musicians fall. Williams = "Pop-Classical for the masses," not actually innovative writing. Williams is clearly an Opera and Ballet lover, and there are so many similarities in in writing from standard romantic/neo-romantic Operas and Ballets. It's getting better though, since a lot of musicians these days went into music because of Williams. That and management as well as the musicians are starting to realize the value in his music for selling out strict large-orchestra instrumental music while not having to invite some incredibly expensive soloist or bring in vocalists. The cost is already built into the union contract and you might just have to pay some doubling fees and bring in some ringers to give the brass some body and pay a second principal trumpet to give the lead a break.

Ah, now I understand. Although who are we kidding. I predict there will be another round of sessions in the Summer and another in the Fall.

    Upcoming Films

I would say so, considering the overrated nature of his career. He's made, what, three truly good movies? Halloween, The Thing, and Christine? Then there is a smattering of passable junk entertainment, and others that are crap. Dolores Claiborne, Hearts in Atlantis, and 1408 are also a good King-adapted movie that weren't mentioned.

    The Patriot (John Williams)

The Patriot is, of course, a terrible history movie, but decent entertainment. I did expect better from Robert Rodat, who was hot of the heals of Saving Private Ryan. I think people are going way too hard on it. I'd watch The Patriot a 100 times before I watch Independence Day. The Day After Tomorrow is also terrific entertainment, probably Emmerich's best, and I'm not sure it's close.
