Michael Tilson Thomas opened the concert by conducting the Maestro’s Olympic Fanfare and Theme, with montage of the 2018 Olympics accompanying. Then, Excerpts from Close Encounters of the Third Kind accompanied by scenes from the film. Second movement from The Five Sacred Trees - Concerto for Bassoon and Orchestra. Harry’s Wondrous World, accompanied by a montage of all eight films. Opening sequence from Raiders of the Lost Ark, matching the film. Michael Tilson Thomas celebrated the Maestro’s birthday with a performance of the song in the style of 17th century Venice. A nice treat. The Maestro himself conducted Adventures On Earth from E.T. The Maestro conducted Theme from Schindler’s List, with special guest Itzhak Perlman, a surprise to myself and everyone. After that, he shared his anecdote about seeing the film for the first time with Steven Spielberg. It is still funny every time he shares that. The evening concluded with the Maestro conducting The Imperial March. The evening was a phenomenal tribute to Maestro John Williams. The New World Symphony performed beautifully. I was able to record the entire concert, which I will upload as soon as I can. Unfortunately, I could not stay for the screening of Jurassic Park. Too late; plus the drive home.10 points

The Secrets of John Williams Writing Tools Revealed
TheOtherJones and 4 others reacted to BLUMENKOHL for a topic
As I sat reading an article on John Williams this morning...I recognized my daily go-to pencil in his hand in this photo: Ladies and gentlemen: I’m not exactly sure if he is using .5, .7, or .9mm lead, but now you can pretend to be as cool as John Williams, and better yet, your beloved Blumenkohl. Not sure what brand turtle neck to wear and match though. FWIW I use .5 mm. But I use a softer lead (2B) so it draws/writes thicker. My guess from the photo is that John alsouses .5mm. https://www.amazon.com/Pentel-EXPRESS-Automatic-Pencil-QE415A/dp/B0026ZPWS2/jwfancom-20 Make sure you stick to the Express line. The other Pentel Twist lines have a gaudy/bougie silver tip that won’t match your black turtleneck. Disclaimer: I appended what I think is the JWFan Amazon affiliate code to the URL above, so if you buy it, use that link and support JWFan. Maybe @Jay can verify link is correct?5 points -
“Music is there for everybody. It’s a river we can all put our cups into and drink it and be sustained by it” That quote is on top of a large standing poster inside the entrance of the New World Center. At the center is the Maestro conducting. The top left corner is an image of Luke, Leia, R2-D2 and C-3PO from Star Wars, Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. The top right corner is the iconic image from E.T. The bottom left corner is a picture of the baby raptor hatching scene from Jurassic Park. The bottom right corner is a picture of Indiana Jones and his father from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. I am probably gonna record the whole concert on my iPhone. I am thrilled to be there.5 points

In spirit.😊 I’m not poor, to answer your question directly. While I could not afford a ticket to the gala event, I am right outside the New World Center, the location of the gala event, where they are doing a free live simulcast of the concert. There is a legion of Imperial Stormtroopers right outside. They are taking pictures and mingling with guests. I honestly was not expecting that, but I was not surprised either. I am truly glad that I am able to experience this concert.2 points

The Last Stand is my favourite of the lot, the plot is a mess, but the themes and where they were trying to go with the story weren't exactly a waste, just executed poorly. I think it's akin to the Spider-Man 3 fiasco of too many plot strands fighting for attention - with X3, it's the Jean Grey and the Cure - both interesting concepts, but both coming off as feeling rushed and out of place. I guess the writers thought the two went hand in hand, with the plight for a cure coming as a direct response to the growing threat that the Dark Phoenix was? Maybe they should've devoted those ideas to two separate films...2 points

This would be my line of thinking. It is in 5.1, it's the same mix as in the film's end credit: Dion's voice and Tony Hinnigan's kena are about the only things in the center channel along with a synthesized bass. The rear channels are silent for much of the first half except for some synth strings that come in during the chorus, and then when they appear for the second chorus, the strings play throughout the remainder of the song. See below: Have a listen here: https://instaud.io/3n7S Of course the radio version produced by Walter Afanasshole or however it's spelled had the vocal spread across the front stereo channels while the rears had those backup singers.1 point -

I listened to the first 3 tracks last night, I think it sounds superb! The harp and bells sparkle, the percussion and low piano in track 2 have such weight and presence, feels like it's in the room with me. The strings have a real warmth and there's definitely more detail and separation. Excellent sound quality, very excited to listen to the rest later.1 point

I don't necessarily see it as 'fun', I see it as creating a universe; a backdrop with its own set of rules that the lofty, existential ideas can be attached to. All the references are organically connected, it's not really some self-deprecating 'let's have a fun with things'-type of film, IMO.1 point
