  1. For the curious, transcriptions of four themes from the GE Suite. Also, you can hear some of the new Cantina music here (which I'm not 100% sure is confirmed Williams but is a great imitation of Fingrin Dan's originals)

  3. These are fun! How cool to have new JW Star Wars music filling the gap between TLJ and TROS. No doubt kept the series fresh in his mind during his 2 year writing hiatus between films. I have to admit, I wasn't all that enamored by this theme after the first reveal, but the more we've heard of it (and the more obvious it's become that the initial reveal was a truncated version of JW's suite), the better it's become. As others have said, it sounds like something Williams would've written between the OT and PT, rather than something halfway through the ST. Would be nice to know what the deal is with those cantina pieces. The one in the video above sounds a little too derivative of the original to be a new JW arrangement, but it's definitely got that fun jazzy hook that sounds like Williams.

  5. It's fine and inoffensive... but you get a sense Elfman's film work these days is mostly just a "day job". His interests lie elsewhere these days... And judging by the results it's probably best if he focuses his energy and time on writing concert works. In terms of film, I'd like him to do something different... a costume drama would be nice and well suited for his maturing voice. Karol

  6. I have been a fan of Star Wars since I saw Episode IV: A New Hope on VHS when I was six or seven years old. Star Wars is my favorite franchise. The story, the characters, the Maestro’s music. I own the first eight chapters of the Skywalker Saga, the entire set of The Clone Wars (until season 7 premieres with the launch of Disney+, in which I will subscribe to catch that), Solo, Rebels and Rogue One. I also own many of the novels, including Queen's Shadow, Dark Disciple, Catalyst: A Rogue One Novel, the novelization of Solo, The Rise of the Empire, Thrawn, Thrawn: Alliances, Ahsoka, Leia: Princess of Alderaan, Lost Stars, Heir to the Jedi, The Aftermath trilogy, Last Shot, Bloodline, Phasma, The Legends of Luke Skywalker, the novelizations of Episode VII and VIII, and I look forward to the novels coming out. I am really looking forward to catching The Mandalorian on Disney+. Seeing the entire saga thus far, it will be really exciting to see the final chapter play out in Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker. I am really looking forward to experiencing everything that Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge has to offer. From the small glimpses seen and the details I've read, Batuu and Black Spire Outpost sound like a very interesting place to visit. I am really excited!

  13. Williams conducted three albums for Previn. The first one, from 1962 on RCA Records, "Young Hollywood Composers", even has some Williams music. In 1963 and 64 came out "André Previn In Hollywood" and "Soundstage", both on CBS. The later one was re-released in the 70's under the title "The Jazz Piano of Andre Previn". The CBS albums were released on the Vocalion label a few years ago though it seems they are out of print. Had no idea Sony had released "André Previn in Hollywood" on CD.

  18. Why, thank you. When it comes to Star Wars, and of course Maestro John Williams and his entire blessed work and career, I have nothing but true delight, excitement and praise. So much to look forward to. Regarding Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, I've even thought of making a series of video logs that will catalogue my trip to Batuu, which I will post on YouTube, just like I posted the whole New World Symphony concert last month.

  23. There's actually so many types. AV receivers - tend to have a lot of digital audio/video processing. On-board amplification. Multi-channel audio. Can be found at most electronics outlets. Stereo receivers - in addition to having an on-board amplifier, they usually feature a radio tuner and a DAC. Stereo integrated amplifier - this is basically a preamp and power amplifier all in one box. I like these a lot. They usually feature nothing else other than volume control, treble/bass control and that's it. Preamplifier - most of these are just stereo, but mine has stereo and 7.1 inputs. They're processors, they don't amplify. Power amplifier - basically a plain box that does nothing but allow speakers to draw current. They come in many forms, like monoblocks, two-channel, three-channel, five-channel, (six-channel ones were briefly popular), seven-channel and who knows how many others. Can be connected to a preamp or the preouts from an AV receiver to give that piddly thing more muscle.

  25. Jeeez, but nobody believes an obvious lie, like that, right??? What a load of BS to try and fool people who don’t know any better. Just own up to it instead. Say: “We looked at a bunch of different alternatives, but kept coming back to the source. In the end, it kind of makes sense, everybody will understand when the movie’s out.” Or something like that.

  31. TLJ was even a more glorified Rebellion 2.0 vs Empire 2.0. The New Republic plothole was ignored instead of fixed. And we are made to believe that 2000 people are a menace for the First Order instead of the rest of the Galaxy who didnt even appear apart from Casino City. Sure its because of the TFA plotholes that made our heroes easily destroy starkiller base...the lifework of the First Order... our Deathstar 3.0 where Captain Phasma on gunpoint deactivated the whole Starkiller Base SHIELD just to save her life... she alone could and would do that... ridiculous

  32. If only Bette Davis was alive and a young woman at 25 playing Rey. She could breathe real smoke life, nuance and powerful emotion into such a dull character. Daisy has nice abs, but lacks the screen presence to carry these movies like a real screen legend could.

  33. Eh. So people care about beloved characters and are affected by art. And people don’t care for political messaging in their entertainment (cf., Roseanne, NFL). True, some TLJ-haters voice exaggerated opinions, especially over the internet, but when every other post is a tirade against these supposedly ubiquitous extremists, it’s a straw man, and it’s no less tiresome.

  35. I have not read the Bloodline novel, but I was aware of its contents regarding the harmful effects of de-militarization. TLJ attempted to blur the line in regards to arms producers/dealers selling to the First Order - and the Resistance - as not necessarily 'good' or 'bad'. Preachy Rose Tico stopped the movie in its tracks when she blamed the gambling/partying/wealthy/oblivious/apathetic occupants and visitors of Canto Bight for the use (and apparent abuse) of people and animals for their own selfish benefit. She eventually took it upon herself to break-out some large racing animals, riding one herself whilst trampling the city, with the police in chase, and Finn hanging on for dear life, who complained at her for "enjoying" the experience. When the herd was 'free', she took the opportunity to remove the animal's saddle, saying only then what they did was "worth it." Most movie-goers would agree that this blatant example of Social Justice Warring does not belong in a Star Wars film. Did Kathleen Kennedy, Rian Johnson, and Co. really think that this (and TLJ's shoe-horned-in identity politics and male-bashing) would be accepted by the fans? How delusional they were... and probably still are. Maybe they don't care, and are just trying to influence the world in the little time they have before they are fired. I find it incredibly ironic that you say "youtubers who are whining about how leftist Star Wars has become under Disney don't know what they're talking about" and that "their annoying cries" and "entire platform doesn't matter" as a Disney-produced Star Wars film is failing at the box office and will struggle to turn a profit. You call anti-SJW people "deranged", but you might want to re-assess those in charge of Disney/Lucasfilm... and yourself, while you're at it.

  38. It’s a trite message that doesn’t work in a fictional universe where the war is painted as a cosmic struggle between good and evil. “The only fight. Against the dark side. Through the ages, I've seen evil take many forms. The Sith. The Empire. Today, it is the First Order. Their shadow is spreading across the galaxy. We must face them. Fight them. All of us.”

  40. Was someone else complaining about politics in these new SW films? Fans seem to be "perpetually-outraged" because these films are disappointing - or flat out terrible. At best, Solo is a mediocre, uninspired, action film... and a financial failure. While most believe that 'animal cruelty is bad', so blatantly (and needlessly) inserting it into a SW film (in the form of horse racing) then literally stampeding the elite-class of the gambling city is "politically motivated". Political elements in the OT were handled subtlety. The fans a "vocal minority"? We may be vocal, but rest assured, our financial support of Lucasfilm's SW films/products is not a minority in term of dollars.

  41. The vast majority of people don't care (or even know about) about Solo's (and the recent SW films') backstage problems. Even though not many were crying out for a Solo film, it should have been made well considering Disney's deep pockets. Unfortunately, Kennedy and her gang dropped the ball in production... and chose to insult and accuse fans for calling them out for their shoe-horned-in identity politics in the recent SW films. TLJ was indeed divisive, and it's failings are a top reason that Solo is bombing at the box office. Sorry, but the Star Wars overkill/fatigue excuse is nonsense. Most people would love to see a new Star Wars... every month... but only if it's well made, respectful to the characters/lore. Also, is it too much to ask that the film-makers don't accuse and insult audience members who have issues with the films? Bigger cast names would be a draw, but the above criteria is mandatory.

  42. I don't blame people for getting pissy about LFL trying to shoehorn socially relevant topics into Star Wars. That's something more for Star Trek... and ironically the latest Trek movies completely lacked any socially relevant stuff. EDIT: oh there was that moment in Beyond where it suggested Sulu was gay, which George Takei wasn't pleased about.

  43. I don't have an issue with politics in film, but TLJ presents politics so blatantly, counter to what Star Wars has given us in the past. A few examples: - Animal cruelty is bad. Rose told Finn that releasing the (racing with jockeys) animals made their mission "worth it". But their rescue - and the removal of the animal's saddle - was only temporary, as the animals were surely rounded-up after Rose and Finn left. (Why was that scene in the film? Clue: It wasn't just for the sake of having an action scene.) - Capitalism is bad. Gambling and bathing wealthy people were literally trampled by the animal "rescue". - With the actions/words of Kylo and Deejay, the definition of good and bad was attempted to be blurred. (Sorry, if you knowingly join - or sell to - people trying to conquer the galaxy, you are a "bad guy". It's that simple.) Like nearly all Star Wars fans, I have no problem with women in Star Wars. In the original trilogy, the strong-willed Princess Leia was superbly written... and her character was crucial to the story. The audience then (and now) does not have a "problem" with this female character - quite the opposite. Can you not see why fans have a problem with women in TLJ? On the Resistance side, women were in charge and, in a life or death situation that spans most of the film, did not explain their plans to any crew member, especially not Poe. This caused needless worry and strife. And it was never made clear why the women did this. Vice Admiral Holdo was clearly shoe-horned-in. After having absolutely no presence in TFA, she just showed up (with dyed purple hair, and not in military uniform) and was presented as the commanding officer after the cherished Admiral Ackbar was unceremoniously killed-off after Leia was... incapacitated (got missiled, sucked into space, and flew back to a fast-moving ship... absurd). Rose (a woman) prevents Finn (the male) from making major life decisions twice. War is male-dominated for good reason. One of Star Wars' central elements is war. The lion's share of Star Wars characters should be expected to be men. Not 50-50 with women. The world isn't changing as quickly as Kathleen Kennedy would like us to believe. She's attempting to change Star Wars by adding multiple 'strong' women to her new films. Most of the female characters have little (or no) set-up or legitimacy. Having said that, fans would have no issue with women being present - and as focal points - in the new films... but only in logical, appropriate, character-driven, and story-contributing roles. TLJ failed at presenting (and representing) women properly. And finally... Did you not notice that every man in TLJ had a major flaw, and every woman was in leadership position and/or makes the decisions for the men? The exception is Luke Skywalker, who's confused/disenchanted character was largely disgraced. In TLJ, masculinity was stepped-on, and feminism was shoved down our throats. Believe it or not, that's offensive to most Star Wars fans. Beyond that, most of the film's characters did not progress from TFA. The fans had good reason to strongly dislike - or even hate - TLJ. No need to insult me. Attempting to lessen the importance of what Lucasfilm is doing because "It's a movie", shows that you don't understand what's at play here. It's more than just the box office receipts.

  44. Some may have reacted in a childish way. I do not condone physical threats of any kind. That kind of language is absurd and outrageous. My reaction is communication via the internet... and not giving Disney my continued business unless they produce a film I want to see... and that is not agenda-driven. Let me be clear: I am not upset "because they didn't make the movie that all the fans were pleading for". I am upset because The Force Awakens was a lazy copy, The Last Jedi was purposely offensive, and Solo is not faithful to the character of Han Solo. If you think a Star Wars film is bombing in theaters because of some death-threatening fans, you seriously have no idea.
