  2. It's here! Dang, I was hoping we'd get the whole album today, but I'll take it! On first listen, this sounds more faithful to the original arrangement than Hedwig did. Mutter's playing sounds gorgeous! Is this the one she arranged herself? Also, we've now gone from Johnny Thanos to Johnny Red Skull on the album covers. What's next?

  4. In the facebook video, Mutter mentions that Yoda's theme was specifically arranged by Williams. https://www.facebook.com/17971374062/posts/10157868987969063/

  5. I think it was nothing more than a fun little quote because of the similarity in scenario and action at that moment. TLJ is the most self-aware/referential Star Wars score yet, and I think this short musical moment is one example of that.

  6. Eh I don’t think that’s much to go on. I read it as Williams’s arrangement for her i.e. “my very own John Williams arrangement” and she just singled it out like that because she loves Yoda. Is she known for composing/arranging? I’ve never heard of it...this pretty much sounds like Williams to me so I will be impressed if it’s her handiwork.

    Third Acts

Rogue One. The beginning is decent and the middle drags...then out of nowhere, the third act is fantastic from the moment they reach Scarif all the way to the end.

  8. Did they include a second Spider-man in each banner so the audience would know Spider-man was in it?

  9. Indeed. There's a 1000 other reasons not to touch the SW blurays with a 20 meter pole.

  10. I am disappointed they didn't select Lincoln. Freedom's Call has one of Williams' best violin solos.

  11. Perhaps all the missing cues are hidden at the end of the last track.

  12. I really hope these unreleased recordings see the light of day ASAP!

  13. "Markings" was surely recorded. I guess it might be presented on a separate future release featuring other concert pieces. From pictures and social media postings, also "The Chairman's Waltz" from Geisha was definitely recorded (featuring Lynn Harrell on solo cello). Perhaps it'll be featured as digital-only exclusive, or on a future deluxe edition release. Mutter also spoke about Leia's Theme and Han Solo and the Princess, but perhaps they weren't recorded.

  14. Fewer tracks than we expected then! I'm surprised they didn't include a multi-movement suite. And where's Markings?

  15. This guy did quite a bit of digging and seems to think it might be "The Death Bed."

  16. George had very specific shots that he wanted to achieve, but it was extremely difficult to do using models on wire.

  17. I think that the former Emperor’s theme just became a larger theme, associated to the pure evil of the dark side. Like Ben’s and Luke’s theme became respectively the Force and the Heroic theme.

  19. Who’s the producer of this album? It seems to lack of... direction. I don’t like this version of Yoda’s theme.

  20. The nice thing about expanded releases is, they don't come into your house and take away your OSTs when you buy them

  21. Ugh, not singling you out in particular, @Luke Skywalker , but it does irk me when folks complain about double-dipping. I get it that there are a few instances where say a movie was released on blu-ray and then a month or two later it gets a "deluxe" treatment with bonus features, etc..., but with the case of movie scores, subsequent releases are for the most part a vast improvement over the prior release(s). Complaining about double-dipping on soundtracks to me is like saying you bought these back in the day... ...so therefore you're hesitant to shell out coin on this release? To me that doesn't make much sense. LOL In the case of Monsignor, it was released 12 years ago, went OOP, and was no longer available to the masses to purchase. Even if I had purchased the 2007 release I still would have bought the 2019 release without giving it a second thought, not only for the unreleased music but also for the improved sound and Matessino involvement.

  22. Maybe that's why they'll release the music recorded for these sessions as two albums: to squeeze as much money as possible from the audience (us) who will buy the music gladly. This thought is somehow both cynical and wishful thinking....

  23. Isn't there meant to be some unreleased suite from Potter as well, that we only heard fragments of in the making-of video? Surprised at how much unreleased music there is... Surely being withheld for a second release?!

    Video Game Music

8-bit Music Theory is a great channel! I think it offers something of value, whether you're fluent in theory or not - as he demonstrates the topics he talks about through ample music examples, and all the notation snippets are played back, so you can just listen to get familiar with them. Recently I really liked the "Mount Wario" video, which demonstrates a variety of techniques used in one track to sync it up with the gameplay in different ways.

  25. They recorded a lot more, including Markings. Maybe there will be two editions, a special limited 2CD?

  26. I read it as mrbellamy, it is not Mutter's arrangement but Williams' arragement written for Mutter to play.

  27. Our film does everything from the highest tech, digitally animated, digitally composit CGI shot, to little models on wires in front of photo backing. And everything in between! It goes from great exterior locations, we shot on the Bonneville Salt Flats with spectacular views where we had 170 trailers racing across the desert to these enormous sets we built here at Hughes Aircraft.

  34. Star Trek: The Next Generation - I mean, c'mon, I wouldn't dare skip that intro, even when Netflix asks if I want to! It's such an invigorating theme that's majestic and screams 'adventure!' even though it mostly accompanies stories that are often conversation/soapbox dramas.

  37. Yes, specifically better than the 2007 version (it was sourced from better-quality elements, btw). I love how "Audience with the Holy Father" basically foreshadows the death of Yoda sequence in Jedi. The score is also Previn-esque in some of the lyrical moments (the variation on the Gloria material at the end of "Santoni's Compassion" reminds me of the theme from The Four Horsemen of Apocalypse.

  38. Gloria is a bit over the top imo

  39. My only gripe is why can't the album descriptions be written in paragraphs rather than one huge block of close-together text?? Pet hate! A guy used to send me emails five times as long all as one block of text. Reading it was a nightmare! Happy for the unreleased Williams!

  40. Nice. As for myself, I'm an old-fashined stereo-and-CD kind of guy. My setup consists of an old Nad C350 amp and B&W 603 loudspeakers, currently with a shitty budget line Denon CD-player that I'm thinking of upgrading to Denon's new DCD-800NE. I'll probably upgrade the amp too in the near future.
