  1. I'm sure some of y'all have seen this before, but here's John being interviewed by the late Andre Previn in 1988. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yj4sRhY-feY

  2. That was no accident. The person in charge of the Vienna Phil social media is very aware that we're not an official account. However, due to its popularity, number of followers and account name, JWFan's has quickly become the "de facto" John Williams account for most Instagram users (something to be proud of!).

  3. Important reference materials like that should not be hoarded and traded for favors anyway, but shared with the world as far and wide as possible. To delight in hoarding knowledge as "exclusive" and "fun" is contemptible.

  9. Some breaking news about the recording from Anne-Sophie Mutters website: https://www.anne-sophie-mutter.de/en/news/john-williams-und-anne-sophie-mutter-in-wien/ The essentials: It‘s going to be on ServusTV (Austrian TV) in the spring, DG is going to release a CD later in 2020. A film recording will also be distributed by DG. A conversation between ASM and JW will also be shown in the TV broadcast.

  10. Trevorrow's story does look better than what we got. I honestly wish Rian Johnson made Episode 9. I would have loved to see what he'd have done with it.

  11. It looks like instructions for the camera operators about what they should film during each piece. The camera in the video is No. 5, so he has highlighted the stuff he should be capturing.

  12. Mike says "Lucasfilm Licensing wanted as much Star Wars terminology and story references as possible in the titles. Nick Redman was told that and left it to me to come up with things, which Lucasfilm then tweaked." Nick Redman was the producer of the sets.

  13. Ludwig told me last week about this topic which I missed, and at the time my reaction was to call it the "fate" tag. Tragic works too, less overtly Wagnerian. Perhaps "destiny," and here's another instance of it in the Destiny track... exposed on solo clarinet with an extra neighbour note - 5-(4)-6-2 - right after (yet another) gentle Sith/Neapolitan variation of the Force. I also suggested to Ludwig that the major mediant incarnation of this with Ben Solo's death matches earlier instances in Galaxy's Edge... ... and TPM (same key as GE), where I first became aware of it as an entity, and where it enters as if out of nowhere, as we prepare to meet Anakin for the first time. In yet another variation in the same cue the tag is transposed up: 1-b2-5

  14. Great, @SteveMc! Now get us the one with Previn, Williams, and Rózsa Btw. what Williams says about the structure of a Boston Pops concert: That it's divided into: Overture Suite Concerto Intermission Overture further pieces ("business") second intermission further pieces Sounds like the structure of the Vienna concert!

  15. They are fun together, Previn clearly loves John in his gruff way and it's amusing to see him frustrated by Williams' extreme humility about his gifts.

  17. OK so here's the same clip slightly extended with the next bit. I should probably explain this is Prince Igor having got to Baba Yaga's "lair" or "forest" starts thinking about his Warrior bride that has been kidnapped by Koschei. That's the big theme, then the next bit is him plucking up his resolve to face Baba Yaga in order to pass her tests for her to then agree to help him defeat Koschei. The section right after this is us hearing her call pulling him closer and closer to her and making him face her. Baba_Yaga_Love_theme_and_Resolve_clip.mp4

  18. Gosh, this Anne-Sophie is such a fangirl. And just because she's a world class violonist, she gets to hang with John Williams, while the rest of us admire him from the shadows. That's so unfair!

  20. At what point does that "normal feeling" just cross a line into selfish, dickish gloating, though? That's where people take issue with it. Like is that feeling just so satisfactory that you just _can't_ let something as precious as a videotaped interview from the 80's between two musicians possibly trickle into the unworthy masses of fellow fans? Is that feeling the justification for hoarding that? I'm using that example to make a general point.

  22. I noticed a few times during Sunday's performance that the red light on the camera at the side of the venue only came on from time to time. I'm guessing only specific shots of his were being recorded, and he was being cued in via his headphones. I suppose it means less to edit. I hadn't thought it would be done this way, but it makes sense. (If I'm right.) I'm still utterly on cloud 9 from the weekend. My girlfriend and I were right on the back row at the top for Saturday, and I was fortunate enough to get a seat on the ground floor for Sunday via the waiting list. It was everything I ever dreamed it could be. I'm not sure I'll ever experience a feeling like it again.

  23. Damn some of those images are pretty incredible. As cheesy as it is there’s something moving about Leia sending one last hologram to the galaxy to ask for their aid. It certainly packs more or a punch than Lando showing up out of nowhere with an entire fleet for some reason

  31. Parasite It's actually worth the hype and Oscar nominations. Boon Joon-ho keeps the movie on an even keel, keeping the plot unpredictable (but tangible) while expertly handling black comedy and suspense. The acting is excellent, especially Song Kang-ho, and the production specs are top-notch. I'm surprised Hong Kyung-pyo didn't get an Oscar nomination for Best Cinematography, because the camerawork is sublime. It's definitely worth checking out in theaters. An original film that can't really be pegged into one genre.

  37. In the case of INNER CITY, that was based on an original cue title (as were some of the other titles on the original LP). Of course, as we saw with the recent TROS cues, maintaining the original title is a somewhat rare case. I do love some of these spruce-up changes between cue name and soundtrack though. One from TFA comes to mind - 'That Lady With the Stick' became 'That Girl With the Staff'

Of course, no review will reflect what I really felt at these concerts. I went to Vienna not as a journalist, but as a Williams fan, passionate about his music for about thirty years. I'm glad that I could be at both concerts and I'm sure that nothing will ever beat it. Thank you Maestro! https://kultura.onet.pl/muzyka/wywiady-i-artykuly/koncert-johna-williamsa-relacja/0zp8rm6

  42. Actually, the world ended in December 2012 just like the Mayans had predicted, but since we lived shitty lives before, we're actually in hell now. The people who had good lifes by this time are in heaven, enjoying the Matessino produced boxes for Star Wars (all three trilogies), Hook (complete, restored and without a single note missing) and Indy (all 4 movies), along with a very detailed cue by cue analysis. Oh, and on heaven there is no "post-2005 scores are too prohibitively expensive for expansions", so they have War of the Worlds, Memories of a Geisha, Tintin, War Horse expanded too. I wished I had confessed more often and did more voluntary work before Dec 2012, instead of eagerly anticipating An Unexpected Journey .
