  1. Quickest I've ever felt compelled to transcribe something. This is the french horn solo that opens the piece. Probably the antecedent phrase of a longer melody. Will update as more becomes available!

  2. Here's the whole theme (first minute or so of the piece), with chord symbols. Love the Abma7/Eb to D7 progression, sounds like something out of Last Crusade. Will get cracking on other aspects of the piece once I catch my breath.

  3. I was there in that room and definitely cried. I’ve seen the maestro live many times mere feet away, but being caught off guard with a sudden performance by him, and with the debut of a major new theme no less, was quite something. When I last saw him in Pittsburgh last month, I thought DC next month would be the next performance of his I’d be at. Just wow.

  6. Delivered! Spinning the disc now... My only complaint is that the font is so small on the back cover! I can barely read the times listed on the tracks. Sound is amazing so far!

  11. Star Wars by John Williams. Interestingly, this original score has become my favourite in the entire saga in recent years. It used to be Empire but not anymore (it's a close second now). After all the muddling of waters in the grand franchise it is just so refreshing to hear something as streamlined and uncluttered by continuity. The film is perfectly spotted - just enough music to create an epic adventure but not too much so that it doesn't lose the steam at any point (like many other sequels/prequels). Like Superman and Raiders, it perfectly embodies certain myth. I also appreciate that the presentation of the score over the years was always really solid. The original is one of the finest in the saga, the expansions from 1997 is absolutely fine, even after 20 years it shines bright. And I have to say seeing the film with LSO playing the score live was one of the best concert experiences for me. Cello Concerto by Danny Elfman Karol - who also watched the original Star Wars on 4K Blu-ray last night to commemorate the 45th anniversary.

  12. It's a shame they stopped doing the "one thing" planets, like ice planet, lava planet, forest planet, sinkhole planet... That was cute. Now, they're just mostly "regular Earth in shitty weather" planets. Karol

  13. When you start humming it, you find it shares some structure with the SW main theme--a nice little tie in.

  17. Having watched (for the first time) some episode of The Clone Wars 3D cartoons this week made me realizing that each movie of the prequels (like the original movies before) was also a cartoon. I think when the prequels came out, we had too much expectations... too much unanswered questions. We wrongly watched these episodes like if it was The Bible in Space, with our adult eyes and expecting answers... and it was wrong. George Lucas always been true to himself from the start. We changed but Lucas didn't. That's the genius of this guy. (This comment took 20 years in the making)

  18. Man, I freaking love Star Wars. That’s it. That’s my post.

  19. I would never have thought that Star Wars makers would give Williams an opportunity to write a concert piece on a topic of tragedy and focus on the psychology of a traumatized character. This is the kind of unconditional dramatic seriousness that Williams's blockbuster scores has often been accused of lacking in contrast to operas or, say, Herrmann's scores. But even with that being the case in this assignment, the choice of Wagnerian/Brucknerian tonality and rhythm is not something I expected from Williams, certainly not to that extent. Always a step ahead of us he is.

  21. Melody didn't instantly hook me either from that clip of the opening solo but by the end of the full piece, it's in my head. Reminds me a little of Anthem of Evil, actually, would put this a notch above that.

  30. I finally start to have a decent basic collection of Jerry Goldsmith's albums. Not too bad for a guy who didn't have any CD of Jerry Goldsmith 3 years ago!!! The discography of Jerry Goldsmith is so vast and rich, that I decided to go with "essential" albums first, of course, my collection will continue to grow in the next years. Many essentials are still missing, either because they are on my wishlists, or because they simply are actually OOR (Out of Reach).

  31. I personally doubt that they would directly do that, mainly because their costs are going to vary so much between projects. I also fall into the camp that whatever they do, someone somewhere doesn't like it, and that $12 is going towards their next project which could turn out to be a grail.

  32. This is a mistake on the booklet. Pagemaster was recorded in August. The book will offer a chronological list with dates of 90% of the recordings. I was able to complete the list thanks to James Horner's collaborators and also by paying for research at the AFM local 47.

  35. The (first) crowdfunding campaign to record premieres of General Electric Theater scores by Goldsmith just successfully finished this morning (including a second score as a stretch goal)! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/129592672/the-bar-mitzvah-of-major-orlovsky-jerry-goldsmith?ref=discovery_location If you missed it, I'm sure the two scores will be available for regular sale as lossless downloads later. And if at least two more GE Theater scores by Goldsmith can be successfully funded next, there will be enough music to justify a CD edition. Oh...and Intrada announced Matinee complete this morning too. It's a good day for Goldsmith fans. http://www.intrada.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=8918 Yavar

  36. Amazing. Can't wait to hear it in studio quality. I predicted right that it would be some sort of reflective theme in the line of Jedi Steps and not a heroic theme. And that it would be a 4-5 minute concert version

  37. The way I see it, the theme reflects the life he's been living since ROTS ended and the show begins, not necessarily what adventures he'll get up to in the show

  39. I wanted to get Small Soldiers too, but the OST and the OOP Expansion seems to be a bit out of price for the moment... Goldsmith's work is sooo huge, I understand why speciality labels have a hard time to properly reprint some titles. I can wait.
