  1. They should've put the trailer in the magazine

  2. Indeed. If this is to be JW's final score, then he, probably, couldn't have found a better film to sign-off with.

  3. I love how old Indy still works in the costume, but he looks transformed from a youthful adventurer into a grizzled detective on the hunt for clues in some globetrotting mystery. The shadowy shot in the bar (albeit a posed photo) looks delightfully film noir. It's exactly the change in tone I was hoping KOCS would take fifteen years ago (especially with the Cold War setting, which they wasted) but it seems like Mangold is embracing it. I think this bodes well. Pair that with Williams' Golden Hollywood approach to the score and the tone of this film is coming together nicely.

  4. Fitting to have Williams score it as well, as much of his music in the last 10 years has that bittersweet farewell feeling.

  5. Nixon is underrated. I would not call it dark, as I would tragic. I think it is the most operatic score of Williams's output. And, damn, those tragic brass chords throughout.

  6. I join the feeling that there should be a score release, because after watching the movie I noticed so many good bits of score especially towards the climatic confrontation at the end, and it would be a shame if they went unreleased. I mean, the previous movie had some score cues in the album and they even included the 10-minute climax sequence which was great. And looking at other recent Disney releases I though they would do a big release with the songs and then some score cues, but I hope they do some kind of deluxe edition sometime soon.

  7. https://www.empireonline.com/movies/news/indiana-jones-is-back-adventure-laughs-real-emotion-harrison-ford-world-exclusive/ Man, I am SO looking forward to seeing this now more than ever, and my anticipation was already high. You know what? I don’t mind that the title still has not been revealed yet. Save it for when the trailer debuts; it’s perfect build-up.

  8. https://edithbowman.com/2017/03/episode-31-james-mangold/amp/ This is pretty old now (2017 circa ‘ Logan’) But a great conversation Mangold has with Edith Bowman about how he uses music in his films. Seems to have a terrific understanding and appreciation for how music functions within film. That sweet spot for composers where he’s more descriptive about feeling and story rather than saying “make it sound like xyz score”. I’m looking forward to hearing his experiences on working with Williams in a couple short months.

  9. Underrated.... Heidi. Absolutely lovely early TV score, with a cracking main theme. Overrated... pass. Anything I might consider overrated would likely be due to over-saturation than being genuinely overrated.

  10. That could almost be my Overrated list.

  12. I definitely can't agree with The Lost World as one of the most overrated. I have a few of its tracks on my gym playlist so I listen to them regularly and I never tire of it. For example, from 5:55 in 'Visitor in San Diego' is absolute gold from an orchestration standpoint : the jungle percussion, the rapid horn blasts, the four note island motif, the low string glissandi becoming more pronounced as the track reaches its conclusion, and a few boom-tishes thrown in too. It is a very rewarding listening experience.

  18. I love how the Fondor became a ship with character, and took on the Star Wars trope of a plucky smaller ship outwitting a large Imperial one... and with such creativity. But that's not what this is about. The subtle ways authoritarianism shifts society (Mothma's daughter), the way these downtrodden heroes have their hands forced, the corners the Empire puts them into, the tragedy of their separation and distrust of each other, the anticipation of how they might unite, the prequel-benefit of knowing that they're going to rise up. It's all delicious. Finally, Star Wars for grown-ups.

  25. I am not really interested in doing that, and I find it hard to believe Neil & Mike would have left any cues unreleased. They included "3M1 The Deal", which was not used in the film or on the original album, after all. Yea, that rapid change of tone in the "Bloody Christmas" album track is super jarring! So happy to have those properly separated now

I think I prefer the Fabelmans theme melodically but the Dear Basketball piece is a more satisfying arrangement.

  29. Very well said. It's really going to be tough to wait for S2. For me, this show has really been the biggest (good) surprise in Disney's Star Wars ventures. One thing I was reflecting on: When I saw the OT as a kid, the sillier aspects were almost completely lost on me. This was a serious story of grown-ups fighting deadly battles in a super cool imagined universe, with some sophisticated humor thrown into the mix. I loved it. (I still do, but when I try to look objectively as an adult, I can see that they're fundamentally campy kids' movies.) In some ways, Andor is kinda delivering the same sorts of feelings the OT did, but translated for my adult brain. It feels about as serious now as the OT felt when I was a kid.

  30. And no boys. And no solos. I have Audio Imperia Chorus. Best out of the box sound. And plenty of vowels. Wordbuilders are overrated. I mean, you trying to record Carmina Burana?

  33. How did they even fuck this up that badly? Since it seems the FYC is identical to the OST shouldn't it have been as simple as just uploading the same album masters given to all the digital retailers?

  35. My hope is that someone will make one when the maestro is still alive. We need more in-depth interviews with the man himself, not the usual journalistic mainstream we heard thousand times. Especially the early years 1955-1965 need a bit more coverage, since there is very little information about this era. As discussed before, maybe Spielberg could make an interesting documentary with all the videos he shot during recording sessions. I'm sure there are tons of interesting videos in his archives.

  36. So Willow has Davis back. It has Whalley back. Kilmer is back, in spirit at least, and Howard is back producing. What’s missing from that original DNA? James Horner’s unforgettable score, of course. Sadly, Horner passed away in 2015, but in his place, Willow has James Newton Howard, himself a legend, who specifically asked to work on the show. “James Newton Howard ... threw his hat in saying ‘I want to step into this,’” Kasdan said. “And one of the reasons he said it is because he and Horner had a history together.” As for the use of the theme, Kasdan and Howard agreed it needed to be used in the right way. “When we had our first conversation, I said, ‘You know, the movie is synonymous with this theme. People love it.’ And he said, ‘I want to use it, but I want the moments when it comes back to be impactful. I don’t want it to feel like we’ve cut together the score from the original movie and repurposed it every time we get into a sort of emotional jam,’” Kasdan recalled. “So you’ll find as you go through the [series], we use it very sparingly as an accent. And what James said to me is that as a friend of Horner’s, he’s confident that he handled it in exactly the way Horner would have handled a score that he had started out on. So I felt pretty good about that.”

  37. I’ve been hibernating for a while but just wanted to comment on how lovely the brief snippet of the score was in that clip. Hearing JNH take on Horner is a dream come true! Really hope we get a couple of albums for this (RoP reaaaally spoiled us! Lol) The acting seems …ummm…a little rough (was Warwick Davis reading from a cue card?😅) But I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt. I’ll be watching this November 30th.

  39. I really love how the melody keeps coming back to the first note. The descending line at measure 6 adds some nice rhythmic variety. One of those classic JW moments where he establishes a fairly simple idea but twists it in an unexpected direction. That particular descending major key chord progression is one that almost always works for me. The BFG and Home Alone usw something similar but it reminds me most of the "Homecoming" motif from Born on the Fourth of July
