  1. John will have all of March, April, and May to write the music, which is alot of time

But isn't it supposed to come out June 29??? If he's still WRITING music in May how will he have time to record it? Doesn't the mixing, etc. also take up a lot of time?

I mean Revenge is recorded in February, months before the film will be released. But War Of The Worlds is a totally different film, right? NOT!

    :|

  2. Opening of WotW is July 29

No, WOTW opens June 29. One month makes a lot of difference when it comes to scoring.

whether JW will be available to make changes at that point is another question entirely

It's the heart of the matter IMO. I reason that Lucas AND Williams don't want the shit that plaqued TPM and AOTC. They both want to be able to make last minute changes to the film and the score. No matter what.

  3. I think the release date definately poses a problem.

Revenge Of The Sith: May 19

War Of The Worlds: June 29

So if Williams IS going to score War Of The Worlds, WHEN will he score the film and record the music? War Of The Worlds will require a HUGE amount of score (considering Spielberg's material and musical preference).

Back in 1999 Williams DID rescore the final scenes of TPM after Lucas decided to re-edit the whole thing (ok - Lucas re-edited the re-edit again shortly after that and didn't ask Williams to rescore it anymore).

In 2002 Lucas AGAIN re-edited and finished the CGI of the AOTC Geonosis battle, but this time Williams was busy scoring Minority Report and Williams couldn't finalize the score.

Now I'm sure Lucas AND Williams want to do it right. War Of The Worlds presents (or MAY present) the problem in finalizing the score for Revenge Of The Sith. Since Lucas is so sloppy and undecisive during post-production I'm sure Williams will be busy on Revenge until the very last moment leaving Williams, as king mark also stated, unable to score War Of The Worlds.

(Please if you don't like my reasoning don't read it ok? I'm sorry for irritating so many members with this kind of posting, but I do mean it serious. I'm not like you that I automatically ASSUME Williams will score based on the previous collaborations between Spielberg and Williams. Everyone ASSUMES that ofcourse. Yes, even the unit publicists and agents. Why would they doubt Williams' credit anyway? But we have a lot more information concerning Williams' involvment with the prequel trilogy and the problems that occured back in 1999 and 2002)

  4. I thought Williams became really amazing when he started working with Spielberg. I think Spielberg brings out the best in Williams.

Remember 1994-1996. The longest period without a Williams-Spielberg collaboration and, again for me, a weak period in Williams' scoring career. It seems Williams needs Spielberg to infuse him with rich musical ideas and inspirations.

  5. Jabba's Theme is DEFINATELY there, BUT...

...after almost 6 years of listening I still don't hear The Emperor's Theme in Augie. The note-for-note comparison that someone back did in 1999 proved that the two themes are different (although the first 4 notes are the same).

Then again; Luke's theme and E.T. theme share the same first 5 notes and those two pieces are NEVER regarded as being the same.

  6. Ok more shit from me:

    1) Go to the following site: http://www.gsamusic.com/composers.html

That's the site from Williams OFFICIAL agents (as has been pointed earlier in this thread)

    2) Select John Williams

    3) A pdf-file opens. Go to page 7. It's part of his scoring assigments and WHAT WILL YOU SEE...??

There IS Episode III, there IS Memoirs Of A Gesiha, but NO War Of The Worlds!!!

The same agents report on their main page http://www.gsamusic.com/ that Williams will score WOTW, but that is a fairly old information (released around the Grammy Awards nomination time) and I can imagine they ASSUMED Williams would score WOTW. BUT they did not know of Memoirs back then. The pdf-file is VERY UPDATED (Memoirs IS included here) BUT no WOTW... So, did they change their minds? Did they forget to include it? Highly unlikely wouldn't you say...

    Your thoughts please...

Roald - keeping my biggest thread alive....

  8. First: if this topic is repeating things that have already been discussed in another one...sorry...

I'm really excited about Episode III. The film AND the score. I hope Lucas and Williams will end the saga on a high note and I don't mean that literally :)

I'm a spoiler junkie so I know everything there is to know about the plot-line, the characters, etc. so I can elaborate about possible music than will end up in the final score.

    Possible new themes:

The prequel trilogy is not really known for multiple themes that can equal the original trilogy. We had Duel Of The Fates, Anakin's Theme and Across The Stars, themes presented in a CONCERT ARRANGMENT. There were minor themes that were not really expanded: Qui-Gonn's Theme, Shmi's Theme, the Trade Federation Theme, Jar Jar's Theme, etc.

When it comes to full-blooded new thematic material for Episode III it's going to be difficult. I wonder IF Williams will actually compose a new theme that will be presented on the album in a concert arrangment. I can only think of:

    General Grievous' Theme

It would be cool if Williams would write another villianous, evil theme for this character. Unlikely though...

    The Wookies' Theme

Could be interesting. A mature, more heroic Parade Of The Ewoks? Again; unlikely, but it could be cool.

Well; that's it actually. I don't expect Bail Organa to get his theme. Maybe there will be a new SITH theme or a FALL OF THE JEDI elegy or something. All highly speculative ofcourse.

    Possible source music:

There is an opera scene in the film. It would be so cool if Williams will write something beautiful, classical yet otherwordly for this specific scene. Some kind of operatic version of The Emperors Theme would be cool incorporating Vader's Theme... Could be amazing...

What are your ideas on the Episode III score?

    Roald

  9. The only thing I don't like about ESB is that the score was butchered to some degree in the film. Some pieces were used for scenes they weren't originally scored for, some music was eliminated from the film... The same things that were done TPM and AOTC were also done to ESB although to a much lesser degree.

    Roald

  10. I wonder if in an alernate universe Howard Shore had scored Minority Report and John Williams had scored The Lord Of The Rings and the scores would be EXACTLY as they are now if people would still think the same.

I think we would then regard The Lord Of The Rings as one of Williams' greatest achievements and Minority Report as one of the worst scores for a Spielberg film.

    Just my prediction.

    Roald

  11. Ofcourse not in the arrangment as presented in the Victory Celebration cue, but try to picture the melody in another, more Williamsesque arrangment.

I will make an arrangment of the piece soon, more orchestral in the line of other Star Wars themes and present it here on the board. Can anyone host it for me by the way?

    Roald

  12. The BIGGEST theme I really missed in the prequels is the VICTORY CELEBRATION theme from Return Of The Jedi. It may not be everyone's favorite theme, but I always thought this would be ANAKIN's THEME. THAT would have made perfect sense and I'm sure it would highten the emotional value of the series' finale.

    Think about it.

    Roald

  13. It's probably because in others countries dubbing is as common as subtitles here in Holland, but I can't imagine why anyone would prefer a dubbed-version of an American film over the original spoken version.

    Roald

P.S. Tommy; did you see La Vita E Bella? I prefer to see that one in Italian instead of the Hollywood dubbing. GREAT film!

P.S.2 Tommy; do you also like Ennio Morricone?
