  1. Yeah, and that was all perfectly clear when we were introduced to Darth Vader in ANH..!
  2. Yeah, true, it would have been nice to hear that theme get more of a workout. I don't think it would have fit the escape from Jakku scene at all, though, since Han isn't present. Han has a theme..? What have I missed..?
  3. I agree. It is stunning, which makes at all the more bizarre that it isn't a fully fledged theme but rather a once off melody. Having seen the movie and the significance of the scene that melody scores, I can understand why Williams put so much effort into it to make it extra special. One of my biggest anticipations for episode 8 is if that melody will return. Yet, when people heard the theme for the first time in the ABC spot, everyone here -except Marcus- claimed that Williams 'had lost it'..,,
  4. I think the general consensus is that the Star Wars-score was a monumental achievement in film music history, highly succesful and memorable. It was -and still is- regarded as one of the factors that determined the film's huge succes. Williams got it right.
  5. In that way TFA reminds me of Star Wars. It's a great score, yet something is missing from it. JW didnt get it absolutely right till TESB. What are you talking about?? If John Williams didn't 'get it right' with Star Wars than no score in history ever did.
  6. Agreed. I think Rey's Theme is a fantastic composition, it does wonders every time it appears and the concert arrangment left me speechless.
  7. I hope there will be pictures of the back cover as well... Can't wait to see it.
  8. Yes. And no. ...what do you mean? You were the one who told us it was Williams in the first place! Yeah, I know and I'm personally still having faith that this is Rey's Theme, but I think the confirmation people are referring to is the article in 'Variety' and that is not as solid as one might believe...
  9. If it turns out this theme wasn't written by Williams and was just written by some unknown-trailer-guy-composer, the jokes are never going to end..........
  10. I doubt anyone has been as actively reading all the spoilers that have been reported over the past year on MSW, SWU, MF, etc. as me. I read it all. The consensus is that although we know a lot and a lot has leaked, some MAJOR plot elements have never leaked nor surfaced, not even among the most trusted sources. In any plot synopis based on the spy reports, you'll always find these important gaps. People know WHAT happens during most the movie; people just don't know WHY certain things happen, keeping even the spoiler-infested fans intrigued till the end. JJ managed to keep key elements a true mystery, an amazing feet these days.
  11. I don't remember there was any plan or indication Williams intended to initially record in London. Williams indicated as such in the Variety interview. From a production standpoint (filming was mostly in the UK), it would've been more cost-effective to recorded with the LSO instead. I think Kathleen Kennedy took Abrams' post-production process into account, as well as Williams's age, before they announced "Episode VII Will Record Score in Los Angeles". Thanks for this. 8 minutes long..! Nice..!
  12. I don't remember there was any plan or indication Williams intended to initially record in London.
  13. First of all... when did they became friends? Unlikely. Can you be 'friends' with a person that could be your grandfather? Why not??
  14. Yeah, cuz all black people like them phat beats, right..? :/ Yes, yes, that's obviously what I meant. Yo.
  15. I do not necessarily disagree with that, but speculating whether the music in the first released trailer for The BFG was written by Williams or was partly adapted from his score sheets seems very valid material for a John Williams discussion forum to me, even if nothing can be concluded at this point. I for one am very excited about The BFG score, like I'm excited about any new Wiliams score. The journey to finally hearing the soundtrack is marked by getting little bits and pieces of information and it's exactly that phase that I find highly enjoyable. Even if the trailer music wasn't written by Williams it does tell us something. The same way the non-Williams trailer music for the first Angela's Ashes teaser or the first A.I. trailer gave us a glimpse of the musical direction Wiliams would eventually take without copying the works that were used.
  16. Agreed. No point having a JW discussion forum. Personally, I prefer to discuss things that actually exist and/or are confirmed as being what they are. Maybe I'm the strange one, but I've never understood fans' desire to speculate on this and that (also including what an upcoming release from a label is). Baffling. Ah man, you're missing half the fun of it..!
  17. Isn't this like the way people who aren't really into film music tend to call score selections 'songs'? When the guy says remixes, doesn't he mean 'rearrangements of old themes'? Not sure about the combined orchestra though..... What could THAT mean in 'simple folks-terms'...?
  18. Born On The Fourth Of July, at least underrated when people are talking about Williams' masterpieces. You'll always hear Jaws, Star Wars, Superman or Raiders get a mention, but hardly anyone places Born On The Fourth Of July among those undisputed classic scores. It may lack the world famous themes, but it is -next to Schindler's List- Williams' most powerful drama score. It deserves more praise and exposure than it nowadays gets. It also should have won the Academy Award over The Little Mermaid.
  19. I think this is like the first A.I. tracklisting that was published back in 2001. Where Dreams Are Born was called 'Vocalise' for example, but it was definately not a fan creation or anything. My take is that TFA tracklisting comes from a legit source, but probably titles will be rearranged, renamed or combined. There's a big chance in my mind that most of the titles we've seen will end up on the final disc.
  20. Is there anything on this release composed by Williams not released on previous editions......?
