  1. :cry2: Why Joe? Why do you always take the best ones? banghead -ROSS, long live Malfoy!
  2. I stand by what I said all those months ago (scroll up to read) -ROSS, off to bed
  3. Okay, since it's New Year, I thought, hell, let's have a thread with dozens of posts all of them saying the same Happy New Year stuff. It's only once a year! Let me begin with: H yipee :yellow: :wiggle: yipee I'll post my New Year resolutions later. But you're welcome to do it now! -ROSS
  4. As much as I dislike LOTR, I have to admit that's not true. In college everybody was humming the Fellowship Theme the day before the movie opened. And by everybody I mean most musically illeterate folks who did know they what they where humming. And that theme gets played in a lot of ringtones. I have to admit the Ring Theme and the Fellowship Theme are excellent. The rest of the score just
  5. Umm, let's see, in the Tones Menu you're supposed to get the following sub-menus: 1. Ringing Tone 2. Ringing Volume 3. Incoming Call Alert 4. COMPOSER 5. Message Alter Tone 6. Keypad Tones 7. Warning Tones 8. Vibrating Alert 9. Screensaver It would shock me if you didn't because your cellphone is more advanced than mine, at least according to their number (mine's 3330 and yours 3360) -ROSS
  6. Huh. That's weird. I know I can compose on my Nokia 3330. Are you sure you've checked the "Tones" menu thoroughly? -ROSS, who knows cellphone technology in the US is years behind Europe.
  7. If you give me your cellphone number, Steffy, I might be able to send you that ringtone. That is if you've got a Nokia, of course! -ROSS, who has cool ringtones: Imperial March, Futurama Theme, Coca-Cola Jingle and CE3K Motif.
  8. Well, he is not the only one to ask. But I see your point. So yes, maybe the word "wish" would be more appropiate than "ask". I do wish Stefancos removed that signature. But he won't. He's just enjoying the attention and the polemics. -ROSS, who thinks Stefancos is cool for the board.
  9. That's . . . . . . . . . . . . .something to worry about. Ross-
  10. And who made you the person in charge of who can and who can not give an opinion on this site? I agree with diskobolus. Plus, John Williams is 70. It's gross!!
  11. That's really nice of you Ren! Well, the hotel thing wasn't one of those "disastrous things that just turn right because it's Christmas". It was actually very depressing all throughout (sp? :? ). Except at one point, when I sneaked into my 7-to-11 year-old cousins' hotel room and secretly displayed all their presents. When they came back from breakfast -- oh boy -- you should have seen the look on their face Aaaaahh, it feels good to be Santa Claus. -ROSS, who bought presents for most everyone , at the cost of all his savings and who wonders about the part in Italics in BigKenLittle's signature By the way, I should change mine, it's out of date now!
  12. Excellent all of them, Mark. Except "International Man of Mystery" which commited the crime of not including Nancy Sinatra's song "These Boots were Made for Walking". As for me, I got Yo-Yo Ma Plays the Music of John Wililams. Oh, and among other things, a cellphone and one of those hats with thingies to put soda cans to drink from! Seriously!! -ROSS, glad this Christmas is over.
  13. You need to be Stefancos to state that. -ROSS, who reluctantly saw the movie and was greatly surprised, especially by the Ents.
  14. Oh that's easy. Ricard's not here to defend himself. -ROSS, who didn't vote because nobody forces him to read the threads -- why all the fuss? :?
  15. Thanks for sharing that story, Ren! A feel-good story like that always comes in handy for Christmas! And by all means, pleeeaaseeeee, share the tape. We need, no, must listen to it! -ROSS, glad to have Ren back!
  16. Well, we've all had this thought so many times . . . . From the top of my head, Places in the Heart, the Robert Benson 1984 movie. That could have used a good Williams score. And The Color Purple -ROSS
  17. I just thought of the Superman cast and crew in the present. It's as if the movie was cursed. 1.- Margot Kidder had the -- um -- bushes incident (hilarious scene about it in Family Guy ) 2.- Christopher Reeve had the most unfortunate horse accident and is now fighting like the superhero he is to be free from the wheelchair. Go, Chris! 3.- Film editor Stuart Baird wound up directing stuff like Executive Decision and U.S. Marshall. 4.- Richard Donner, well, he made stuff like Scrooged. 5.- The Salkind Brothers . . .Well, what was the last they did? Superman IV? 6.- John Williams . . . .j/k! -ROSS, who's glad at least Gene Hackman had a career after Superman.
  18. . . . .And so, 24 years ago today, December 15, 1978, a movie called Superman: The Movie was released. And John Williams ensured himself a new place in Movie Music History. Now, I'm not a big fan of the movie. But if 24 years ago Superman hadn't been released, or at least the score hadn't been made -- I'll admit it -- we'd have even less magic sparks behind our ears. -ROSS, who saw that movie for the first time at 11 and immediately after that bough the score.
  19. When I made this CD for my friend, I was constantly thinking of what he would think of when listening to the music. You see, he's into other kind of music and he wants this score to relive the movies. So that's what I've gotten for him: 1.- Harry's Wondrous World (COS version) Works as some sort of introduction, as an overture, introducing all the themes. Besides, when he puts the CD into the CD player and the famous opening blows him away, I will have 100% of his attention. 2.- Fawkes the Phoenix The introduction of themes continues. 3.- The Chamber of Secrets And the final theme. I hesitated before adding this one because it doesn't appear in the rest of the CD, I believe, so it has no musical connection with the rest of the score. But it's so good, and it will help my friend to identify tunes with characters. 4.- Prologue: Book II / Escape from the Dursleys And so the story begins. By now, Fawkes and Chamber have probably bored my friend, so this cue is perfect, as it reintroduces the famous themes he wants to listen to. Besides, it gives the musical story a beginning. 5.- Knockturn Alley (intended Diagon Alley but cut for lenght reasons) I wanted to have Diagon Alley here because it introduced the Stone Motif, which was inteded to appear reccuringly all through the score. But it was far too long a track, so I had to go with the CoS version. 6.- The Flying Car This was chosen to get the music a little bit shaken up, to add action to the story. Besides, the Flying Car scene is far more famous and memorable than the quiet train ride. That way, my friend can visualize the music. 7.- Introducing Colin (inteded Entry into the Big Hall but cut for lenght reasons) Again, in order to keep the music into an 80-minute CD, I had to choose the shorter version. Which bummed me a lot, because "Colin" doesn't have the Teacher's Theme like "Big Hall", and so when it appears in the next track it feels like underscore, not thematic use of music. But the track keeps the Welcoming Fanfarres and has an exact feeling to the arrival at Hogwarts. 8.- Mr Longbottom Flies! This marks the beginning of act two: "Things happen at Hogwarts". This develops this act's main theme, the flying theme. And especially, the main mood of the act: half action, half comedy with a lurking dark presence all through it. 9.- The Polyjuice Potion KM, you're right. I should have gone for "Cakes for Crabbe and Goyle". But, alas, I didn't. I wanted a faster connection between tracks 8 and 9 through the flying theme, and it was only when the CD was done that i realised the "The Polyjuice Potion" doesn't have the Stone Motif. This bummed me big time because this would be its second appearance in the "score" and it didn't appear. I failed at introducing the lurkingly motif, simbolising the darkness in Hogwarts. It just appears a couple of times towards the end, and again, in feels like underscore. 10.- The Duelling Club The quirky/serious/dangerous mood is developed here (and it introduces Gilderoys Lockhart's theme), dragging the score towards a darker path. 11.- The Quiddtich Match Big. This is what I wanted it to be. So I put it here, breaking all rythm and tempo, just breaking in like the huge track it is. That way, there's a before-and-after feeling to this overlong act. 12.- Baby Dragon / A Change of Seasons After such a huge, pulsating cue we need to wind down. And what best than Change of Seasons? It gives a sense of rutine, of more things going on in Hogwarts, with a tranquility feeling. 13.- Fawkes Reborn After such a beautiful track as 12, we needed another beautiful track. And this was good, too. And I wanted to remind my friend that this beautiful theme existed. 14.- The Invisibility Cloak Ooooh. Act III: Darkness. Harry supposedly discovers something dark in this track, using his Dad Invisibility Cloak. Also, this is the music that goes before the next track in the CoS movie, so it felt right to have it there. 15.- Meeting Tom Riddle This was a good choice because the Stone Motif was played full-blown and the end, like the Dark Secret that has been there all through the score had finally been revealed. But in the end this turned out to be the introduction of the Stone Motif. Good track though. 16.- The Chess Game Famous, identifiable scene. And heck of good music! It reintroduces Hedwig's Theme to the score, in the end, a theme that will be present until the end. 17.- The Face of Lord Voldemort Well, we needed a confrontation, and I much rather this than "Duel with Basilisk" which wasn't as much fun to listen to. Besides, this was more thematic, something my friend will appreciate. 18.- Reunion of Friends Well, who among you would have chosen "Leaving Hogwarts"? 19.- End Credits (Hedwig's Theme) My friend's favorite themes in one heck of a track. Just to give my friend a nice after-taste of the score. So that's it. -ROSS, who hated not having the friggin Stone Motif appear recurringly!
  20. Oooops, yeah! i somehow got that one wrong . . . .I edited it now.
  21. A friend at college asked me for a compilation. Here's what I gave him: 1.- Harry's Wondrous World (COS version) 2.- Fawkes the Phoenix 3.- The Chamber of Secrets 4.- Prologue: Book II / Escape from the Dursleys 5.- Knockturn Alley (intended Diagon Alley but cut for lenght reasons) 6.- The Flying Car 7.- Introducing Colin (inteded Entry into the Big Hall but cut for lenght reasons) 8.- Mr Longbottom Flies! 9.- The Polyjuice Potion 10.- The Duelling Club 11.- The Quiddtich Match 12.- Baby Dragon / A Change of Seasons 13.- Fawkes Reborn 14.- The Invisibility Cloak 15.- Meeting Tom Riddle 16.- The Chess Game 17.- The Face of Lord Voldemort 18.- Reunion of Friends 19.- End Credits (Hedwig's Theme) I'll have his opinion by Monday. -ROSS, who wrote a long post detailing why he chose each track and it got deleted
  22. What a coincidence! I just bought my copy on Sunday! I need to give it a couple more of listens in the following weeks before I give out an opinion that'll threaten my existence, though. -ROSS, who thinks the first hour of Supes II was superior in some aspects to Supes: The Movie, and will get killed for that opinion.
