  1. INCIDENT AT RAVEN'S GATE (Exclusive Digital release at 24 Bit) Click here to order: https://tinyurl.com/s2y2kst Digital Only Release LISTEN TO A SOUNDCLIPS FROM "INCIDENT AT RAVEN'S GATE” Main Title https://tinyurl.com/uplx99g Rachel and Eddie https://tinyurl.com/u6t2zg9 Dragon's Domain Digital presents the original soundtrack recording to the 1988 Australian motion picture INCIDENT AT RAVEN'S GATE with music composed by Graham Tardif. In RAVEN'S GATE, a remote country homestead has been mysteriously, and curiously, destroyed. Then strange things begin to happen - cars start and stop without warning, the electricity supply runs erratically and pets turn nasty. It seems that some extra-terrestrial force has come to earth and is responsible for the inexplicable incidents and changes in attitudes among the characters. Graham Tardif was raised partially in Melbourne, and mostly along the Northern beaches of Sydney. He developed his love of music at 15, and often truanted on school in order to visit the local record shop. He worked as a sound editor for a short period of time before he decided he wanted to compose music. His first major motion picture was 'A Tale of a Tiger' in 1986, and he hasn't looked back. Widely regarded as one of Australia's greatest film composers, he has over 9 films, 2 T.V. series and several documentaries to his name. 01. Main Title (3:16) 02. Intruders (1:42) 03. 2. AGATHA – MUSIC INSPIRED BY THE MOTION PICTURE https://tinyurl.com/s2y2kst AGATHA – MUSIC INSPIRED BY THE MOTION PICTURE is presented as a limited edition of 500 units. LISTEN TO A SOUNDCLIPS FROM "AGATHA – MUSIC INSPIRED BY THE MOTION PICTURE” Prelude https://tinyurl.com/vu7ftcz The Notebook and Climax https://tinyurl.com/qprlfsw The first 50 copies sold through our website will include an autograph by the composer. Dragon’s Domain Records, to be distributed through buysoundtrax.com, will be releasing AGATHA – MUSIC INSPIRED BY THE MOTION PICTURE featuring music composed and conducted by Howard Blake (THE DUELLISTS, THE RIDDLE OF THE SANDS, THE SNOWMAN) but ultimately not used for the 1979 feature film directed by Michael Apted (21 Up series, GORILLAS IN THE MIST, THUNDERHEART, ENIGMA) and starring Vanessa Redgrave, Dustin Hoffman, Timothy Dalton, Helen Morse and Celia Gregory. In 1926, legendary mystery writer Agatha Christie disappeared for 11 days. To this day, no one knows the details of what she did during that period of time. AGATHA presents a fictional account of Christie’s time away, showing her as a woman fleeing from her own life following the death of her mother and the announcement from her husband that he’s leaving her. Fleeing to a spa in Harrowgate while the whole country is looking for her, American reporter Wally Stanton (Hoffman) finds her and ultimately tries to help her. Howard David Blake was born in the London borough of Enfield in 1938. At the age of eighteen, he was awarded the Hastings Festival Scholarship and attended the Royal Academy of Music where he studied piano and composition. His interest in the cinema led him to a number of outside jobs and he worked as a projectionist at the National Film Theatre. Turning down a second scholarship from the British Film Institute, Blake instead became a piano session player, arranger and orchestrator at Abbey Road and other studios for several composers, including Stanley Myers, Quincy Jones and Bernard Herrmann. It was Herrmann who introduced Blake to Laurie Johnson, staff composer for THE AVENGERS, leading to his first television scoring assignment in 1967. His work in television and advertising music continued and his frequent collaboration with celebrated commercials director Ridley Scott led to his scoring of the director’s debut feature THE DUELLISTS in 1977. Blake’s most prolific film composing period followed with a string of features including THE RIDDLE OF THE SANDS, S.O.S. TITANIC, FLASH GORDON, THE LORDS OF DISCIPLINE. In 1982, Blake accepted the invitation to write the music and lyrics for an animated film, THE SNOWMAN. Instantly hailed as a classic, the score topped the British pop charts and the concert work is still regularly performed around the world each Christmas. In 1989, he won the BFI Anthony Asquith Award for Best Musical Score for A MONTH IN THE COUNTRY. Since the mid-1980s, Howard Blake has been the Musical Director of the Sinfonia of London, a leading film session orchestra. The composer was awarded the Order of the British Empire in 1994 for his artistic contributions in music. Dragon’s Domain Records presents the world premiere release of Howard Blake’s music for AGATHA. While his music was ultimately not used in the film, it was composed during one of his most prolific years and worthy of preservation. The booklet contains liner notes written by noted author Randall Larson, including insights by composer Howard Blake on the creation of the score. 3. THE CONRAD POPE COLLECTION Click Here to Order: https://tinyurl.com/suyvxyj . THE CONRAD POPE COLLECTION is presented as a limited edition of 500 units. LISTEN TO A SOUNDCLIPS FROM "THE CONRAD POPE COLLECTION” GHOST SHIP https://tinyurl.com/vxu2akh TEMPTATION https://tinyurl.com/th8m5hc PROJECT: MOONBEAST https://tinyurl.com/skbuapz UNDER THE MOON https://tinyurl.com/vsjecbr Composer Conrad Pope will sign the first 50 copies of THE CONRAD POPE COLLECTION, VOLUME 1 sold through the website. Dragon’s Domain Records, to be distributed through buysoundtrax.com, presents THE CONRAD POPE COLLECTION, VOLUME 1 featuring music composed and conducted by Conrad Pope (PAVILION OF WOMEN, MY WEEK WITH MARILYN, TIM’S VERMEER) for four feature films from his filmography. Conrad Pope is one of Hollywood’s most in-demand orchestrators, known for his numerous collaborations with composers John Williams, James Horner, Howard Shore, Alexandre Desplat, James Newton Howard, Alan Silvestri, John Powell, Mark Isham, Danny Elfman, and many others. Pope also has a resume of some 18 original film scores to his credit. His talent in many aspects of movie music and his dexterity on scoring paper and concert stage alike has given him a sought-after reputation in Hollywood that has remained durable and dependable for thirty-five years. GHOST SHIP was based on the true story about a Spanish galleon in 1863 that was swept up the flooding Colorado River from San Diego, and was stranded and wrecked far inland in the Salton Sea. The fictional part of the story has to do with seven kids, who learn of the lost galleon and turn a boring school rock-collecting trip into a quest for a shipload of lost pirate treasure. Somehow the filmmakers were able to fund $100,000 to record the score with a 75-piece orchestra, an unheard of amount for an independent movie. Pope’s score is grandly adventurous with large orchestral gestures, a Coplandesque motif setting the tone for a late 19th Century adventure involving eager kids. Released in 1994, TEMPTATION is a potboiler about insurance fraud and murder. The director was looking for music along the lines of Jerry Goldsmith’s BASIC INSTINCT. His score for the film emphasizes fluid string lines and is built around a main theme for the primary character, along with a surging action motif for brass and a suspended electronic choral element. Pope composed both the electronic and the orchestral music for the film; the latter was recorded with a 52-piece orchestra. 1995’s science fiction thriller PROJECT: METALBEAST is about a group of scientists who create a super soldier by injecting the subject with the blood of a werewolf. Naturally, the experiment goes massively awry and the manufactured lycanthrope is cryogenically frozen for 20 years—after which it’s revived by the surviving member of the original project, who enhances the were-soldier with a synthetic metallic skin that makes it virtually indestructible. Thanks, Doc. Pope’s music for the film is grandly powerful, with an especially glorious finale. UNDER THE MOON was made in late 1993, but you won’t find it listed on IMDB or anywhere else, because it had a single showing and then disappeared from the face of the Earth. The film was a passion project from a group of young would-be filmmakers from El Paso and tells the (at the time) unthinkable story of a man whose girlfriend, a school teacher, breaks up with him and he becomes so enraged that he comes down to the school and shoots her in her classroom, taking some of the children hostage and ultimately making an escape in a school bus. The four film scores included on this collection all stem from 1992-95 and are the first movie scores Conrad Pope wrote. The music reflects the influence of the composers Pope orchestrated for, but they also exhibit what he could do with that inspiration when left to his own creativity. All four of the scores on this album were performed by a contracted orchestra in Salt Lake City, Utah. Dragon’s Domain Records is excited to bring the contents of THE CONRAD POPE COLLECTION, VOLUME 1 to compact disc for the first time. The music has been mastered by James Nelson at Digital Outland, with liner notes written by author Randall Larson, including the participation of composer Conrad Pope. BASIL POLEDOURIS COLLECTION, THE: VOL. 4 - THE BLUE LAGOON: PIANO SKETCHES https://tinyurl.com/y9c5vzrl SRP: $17.95 LISTEN TO A SOUND CLIP FROM the score for "THE BLUE LAGOON: PIANO SKETCHES" https://tinyurl.com/yctuvflh THE BASIL POLEDOURIS COLLECTION, VOLUME 4 is a limited edition release of 500 units. This Title will begin shipping on the week of Nov 4, 2018 Dragon’s Domain Records, to be distributed through buysoundtrax.com, presents a very special release of composer Basil Poledouris’s original piano sketches and demos that were recorded in his home studio as he was creating the score for 1980’s THE BLUE LAGOON. With this unique release, listeners are given the unprecedented opportunity to listen, like a fly on the wall in Basil Poledouris’ home studio, as the composer works through his themes and musical interludes on the piano in 1979. Via cassette recordings made by the composer while working, the creative process of developing this film score from his initial piano noodlings to his far more developed and confident treatments is audibly documented. As themes both familiar and unrecognized are created and discarded during the course of composition, a major film score is born. Released in 1980, Randal Kleiser’s THE BLUE LAGOON was Poledouris’ second major film score and largest breakthrough, leading to his magnificent score to CONAN THE BARBARIAN in 1982. Basil’s score for THE BLUE LAGOON was straightforwardly romantic and tropically lush, recorded with a full symphony orchestra. It provided an eloquent, yet far from pretentious, melodic sound that treated the characters’ emotional drama quite honestly and sympathetically. With this remarkable opportunity to hear the late composer at work, you’ll hear the score come together as it happens through these preserved and meticulously mastered recordings. As a bonus track, we’ve included a 10-minute recording of Basil and Randal Kleiser working over music a significant moment in the film with Emmeline’s theme, which is a fascinating glimpse into the interaction between composer and director during the creation of this score. Dragon’s Domain Records is proud to present this unique behind-the-scenes examination of the creation of Basil Poledouris’ THE BLUE LAGOON score. Mastered by James Nelson at Digital Outland and with exclusive liner notes by author Randall D. Larson, aided by the memories of Basil’s daughter Zoë Poledouris, is released in a limited edition of 500 units. POLYNESIAN ODYSSEY / ALAMO: THE PRICE OF FREEDOM - ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACKS BY MERRILL JENSON https://tinyurl.com/y9plmo9d SRP: $19.95 LISTEN TO A SOUND CLIP FROM the score for "POLYNESIAN ODYSSEY" https://tinyurl.com/y8au7n67 LISTEN TO A SOUND CLIP FROM the score for "ALAMO: THE PRICE OF FREEDOM" https://tinyurl.com/y7ajmr33 POLYNESIAN ODYSSEY / ALAMO: THE PRICE OF FREEDOM - ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACKS BY MERRILL JENSON is a limited edition release of 500 units. This Title will begin shipping on the week of Nov 4th, 2018 Dragon’s Domain Records, to be distributed through buysoundtrax.com presents the original motion picture soundtrack to the IMAX films POLYNESIAN ODYSSEY and ALAMO: THE PRICE OF FREEDOM, both composed by Merrill Jenson and performed by The National Philharmonic Orchestra of London. Merrill Boyd Jenson has specialized, not entirely but in large part, in documentaries and IMAX films shown at museums and American historical sites. The film scores collected on this album are excellent examples. The 1988 IMAX film, ALAMO: THE PRICE OF FREEDOM had been commissioned for The Alamo historical site in San Antonio, Texas, where it was shown for many years. Jenson counts this score among his own favorites. The main theme that opens and concludes the score is a breathtaking piece of music, with an elegant structure that reflects a sense of Americana through its harmonic phrasing, while reflecting with the military connotations of the battle via a martial snare drum; it is a score that breathes heavily the elegance of pastoral Americana. 1991’s POLYNESIAN ODYSSEY, also filmed in the IMAX format, was commissioned by the Polynesian Cultural Center to be shown at its theme park and museum in Laie, Oahu in Hawaii. Through vivid, majestic images, POLYNESIAN ODYSSEY told the history of the Polynesian Islands and their peoples; Jenson’s score matched the film’s grand, large format visuals with vivid, eloquent music, from the pageantry of its resplendent choral excursions to the historical and ethnic flavorings that support much of the music’s layered orchestrations. Both ALAMO and POLYNESIAN ODYSSEY were recorded in England with The National Philharmonic of London. Working on these nonfiction films, and many others, has given Jenson an intuitive respect for history and cultures other than his own. Writing emotionally-tinged music for significant events in human history provides a unique sense of fulfillment, and has inspired music that is both meaningful and cinematically effective. “It’s been rewarding to help viewers realize the greatness of the migration of the Polynesian people, and the greatness of their culture. And with ALAMO, the stories of heroes who died for our country should be told. I am proud to be part of both of these stories.” Dragon’s Domain Records is excited to bring these excellent scores to compact disc – ALAMO as a reissue, POLYNESIAN ODYSSEY for the first time. Both scores have been mastered by James Nelson at Digital Outland with exclusive liner notes by author Randall D. Larson, with the participation of the composer. 9. Order Here: https://tinyurl.com/y8wsjakm $15.95 Based on the 1977 novel by Richard Adams, THE PLAGUE DOGS is an animated drama released in 1982 and directed by Martin Rosen. It tells the story of two dogs who escape from a fictional research facility in Northwestern England and struggle against the rugged environment, local constabulary, and British military seeking to recapture them. Rosen’s first film had been an animated adaptation of Adams’ first novel, WATERSHIP DOWN (1978), which had been a huge international success and was the sixth most popular film of its year in England. It was therefore natural for Rosen then to make a film out of Adam’s subsequent novel involving animals. Like WATERSHIP DOWN, the second film was animated and straightforward, unafraid to confront the reality of life in the wild, but THE PLAGUE DOGS treated its subject matter with an even more unflinching dramatic focus about the plight of the canine protagonists and the ethical realities of their predicament. The film’s bleakness and its lack of a cathartic resolution led to its failure at the box office; although in recent decades the film has been much better regarded and critical consensus now recognizes the film’s disconsolation as its greatest ingenuity. Composer and electronic music pioneer Patrick Gleeson grew up in Seattle with initial musical hopes to become a jazz pianist until he became hooked on electronic music. Influenced by Wendy Carlos, Gleeson released several albums of electronic interpretations of classical and pop music, and then merged his interests in synthesizers music and jazz during his collaborative work with keyboardist and bandleader Herbie Hancock in the early ‘70s. This, and a bit of music for short films – including heading the synthesizer group responsible for orchestrating and performing the film electronic score for APOCALYPSE NOW – brought him to Martin Rosen’s attention and he gained his first feature film assignment scoring THE PLAGUE DOGS. Influenced by techniques of American minimalism as well the music of Polish composer Witold Lutosławski, Gleeson wrote a sophisticated score that suited the style of Rosen’s uncompromising filmmaking. The music is performed by members of The Kronos Quartet, augmented by Gleesen’s then-state-of-the-art electronic synthesizers. The score is not thematic-based, but rather allows each musical moment to unfold like a new chapter, giving each sequence a unique musical design of its own. Dragon’s Domain Records is excited to bring THE PLAGUE DOGS to compact disc for the first time, mastered by James Nelson at Digital Outland with exclusive liner notes by author Randall D. Larson, with the participation of the composer. THE PLAGUE DOGS is a limited edition of 50 units. 10. https://tinyurl.com/y8844uj2 Order Here: https://tinyurl.com/y8844uj2 $17.95 “I’ve always been interested in music and in movies, since a very early age,” said Japanese-American composer Paul Chihara. His life experience has ranged from family incarceration during World War II’s Japanese Relocation program to musical training under Nadia Boulanger at the Paris Conservatoire, and further studies at the Hochschule für Musikin Berlin. He’s been a Professor of Music at UCLA, a music advisor to Zubin Mehta, conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic for ten years, while he was developing the first electronic music studio at UCLA. He was the first composer in residence of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra when it was conducted by Sir Neville Mariner. He got into film scoring through a happenchance call from Roger Corman, who was seeking a graduate student to help with a new science fiction movie, a request Chihara, having just retired from UCLA to become a classical composer, filled personally, presenting myself as his own graduate student. He wound up scoring Corman’s DEATH RACE 2000 and opening up a new career in film composing while continuing to maintain a respected career in classical concert music. Among Chihara’s early projects was scoring THE MISSISSIPPI, a 1977 documentary episode for the COUSTEAU ODYSSEY TV program, about the famous French undersea explorer, researcher, and filmmaker Jacques Cousteau’s expedition over the 2,350 mile-long Mississippi River, second longest river in North America. Chihara’s score, performed by members of the London Symphony fulfilling a freelance contract, is an integration of various Americana tunes of the 19thCentury and Chihara’s own original cues to support sequences that needed emotive dramatic support. These included a cheerful trumpet theme flavored with a precise swiftness suggestive of the mighty, modern Mississippi, and much music with arpeggios in the lower strings, which depicts the ongoing undercurrent of the churning water of the Mississippi. Dragon’s Domain Records is excited to bring Paul Chihara’s score to THE MISSISSIPPI and his title treatments for THE MORNING AFTER to compact disc for the first time, mastered by James Nelson at Digital Outland with exclusive liner notes by author Randall D. He made his professional debut as composer for the action film SCORPION. Among his credits are the controversial television series GOD, THE DEVIL AND BOB with James Garner and Alan Cumming, for Carsey-Werner and NBC; and the deeply disturbing psychological-thriller JUNKYARD DOG starring Vivica Fox. Most recently, he has also scored DEEP BLUE SEA 2 and THE DEBT COLLECTOR. Sean is the son of actor Don Murray, whose performance with Marilyn Monroe in BUS STOP was nominated for an Academy Award. Sean lives in the Hollywood Hills, close to the film studios and post-production houses. ACCIDENT MAN is a limited edition release of 500 units. THE RETURN OF SWAMP THING Original Soundtrack Recording by Chuck Cirino https://tinyurl.com/ybga9b7j SRP: $17.95 LISTEN TO A SOUND CLIP FROM the score for "THE RETURN OF SWAMP THING" https://tinyurl.com/y894aw7d THE RETURN OF SWAMP THING is a limited edition release of 500 units. This Title will begin shipping on the week of Aug 7th 2018 FIRST 50 Copies Purchased through BUYSOUNDTRAX.COM will be autographed by Composer Chuck Cirino and Director Jim Wynorski Dragon’s Domain Records, to be distributed through buysoundtrax.com presents the original motion picture soundtrack for THE RETURN OF SWAMP THING, featuring music composed by Chuck Cirino for the 1989 sequel to SWAMP THING, directed by Jim Wynorski, Dick Durock, Heather Locklear, Sarah Douglas, Joey Seagal, Ace Mask, Monique Gabrielle and the great Louis Jourdan. THE RETURN OF SWAMP THING continues the longtime collaboration between filmmaker Jim Wynorski and composer Chuck Cirino, which includes films such as CHOPPING MALL, DEATHSTALKER II, NOT OF THIS EARTH, TRANSYLVANIA TWIST, A DOGGONE CHRISTMAS, A DOGGONE HOLLYWOOD and, most recently, A DOGGONE ADVENTURE. Following the cult success of the original SWAMP THING released in 1982 and directed by Wes Craven, the producers Benjamin Melniker and Michael Uslan decided to make a sequel, and ordered up a script from screenwriters Neil Cuthbert (later, Hocus Pocus, Mystery Men) and Grant Morris (later, Dead Dog). They offered the directing assignment to Jim Wynorski, then four movies along in his prolific career of more than 150 films. Actor/stuntman Dick Durock returned as scientist Alec Holland’s alter ego Swamp Thing, Louis Jourdan as the villainous Arcane, still eager to steal Alec Holland’s chemical advances, Heather Locklear (TV’s MELROSE PLACE, FIRESTARTER), came in as Arcane’s niece Abby, a character from the comic book. Sarah Douglas (Ursa from SUPERMAN and SUPERMAN II) co-starred as Dr. Lana Zurrell, assistant to Arcane in his attempts to combine human genes from various swamp animals to create an army of monsters known as “Un-Men. When it came to music, Wynorski brought in his friend, composer Chuck Cirino, who had begun scoring all of Wynorski’s films since 1986. Their passionate mutual interest in Italian composer Ennio Morricone brought them together in the mid-1970s and their friendship was strengthened when both wound up in Los Angeles shortly after STAR WARS was released. By the time Wynorski began directing, Cirino had gotten into writing music as well as directing and editing. When they came to collaborate on THE RETURN OF SWAMP THING, the film’s budget was sufficient enough to accommodate a few live instruments in addition to Cirino’s electronic set-up, including a small brass section containing flugelhorns and trumpets, a recorder soloist, and an Electric Valve Instrument player. Everything else was synth. Remarkably, The score was recorded in a cramped and complicated set-up in the bedroom of Cirino’s Van Nuys home. There are actually two scores to THE RETURN OF SWAMP THING; well, one and a half scores to be precise. One is present in the film and occupies the majority of this complete score album. The second can be heard in the 22-minute suite that concludes the track list. Cirino’s score for THE RETURN OF SWAMP THING is full of exciting thematic material and fans of the composer have been long anticipating its release. Chuck Cirino did not start his career as a composer, but rather as a programmer in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania for a Public Access cable TV station, where he learned how to create TV shows by himself, without a crew. In his spare time, he experimented with the station’s video equipment and created a series of genre productions that allowed him the opportunity to learn how to incorporate special effects into his work. After relocating to California, Cirino transitioned into directing high-end special effects television commercials. His first work as composer was for the 1980 cult film GYPSY ANGELS, which starred Vanna White and Richard Roundtree. Since then he has scored films for Roger Corman, directed music videos for bands like Earth, Wind & Fire and The Dickies’ KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE, and has recorded over 40 music soundtracks for feature films including SORCERESS, HARD TO DIE, TRANSYLVANIA TWIST, and many others. Most recently, he has scored A DOGGONE CHRISTMAS, A DOGGONE HOLLYWOOD and A DOGGONE ADVENTURE. Chuck has worked as a producer, director, filmmaker, videographer, animator, special effects technician, editor, and composer. He executive produces and directs WEIRD TV, a television series featuring weird Americans, bizarre news, unbelievable events and outlandish skits. Chuck’s credits also include executive producer and director of the Sci Fi Channel projects, WORLDWIDE WEIRD and WARPED IN SPACE, and BABERELLAS, an independent Sci Fi feature distributed by Xenon Pictures. Dragon’s Domain Records is excited to bring THE RETURN OF SWAMP THING to compact disc for the first time, mastered by James Nelson at Digital Outland with exclusive liner notes by author Randall Larson, with the participation of the composer and the director. THE RETURN OF SWAMP THING is a limited edition of 1000 units. FIRST 50 Copies will be autographed by composer Don Davis LISTEN TO A SOUND CLIP FROM the score for HYPERSPACE https://tinyurl.com/ybzl7437 Dragon’s Domain Records, distributed through buysoundtrax.com, presents the long out-of-print orchestral score to HYPERSPACE, composed by Don Davis. One of the first feature length STAR WARS parodies, HYPERSPACE came out in 1984. Known in England as GREMLOIDS and as GREMLORDS in France and Germany, HYPERSPACE was writer/director Todd Durham’s second and last film as director, working with ambitiously cost-conscious low-budget producer Earl Owensby. The movie was released in September 1984, but it wasn’t until 1988 that the film received a wider release on home video. Starring comedians Chris Elliott and Paula Poundstone and filmed in North Carolina, HYPERSPACE imitates STAR WARS in context and execution from its opening text crawl into infinity to its inscrutable helmeted monarch of menace, Lord Buckethead (played by Robert Bloodworth, but voiced by Barry Cooper). Lord Buckethead is hot on the trail of vital radio transmissions stolen from the corrupt Galactic Alliance by members of an allied resistance force. Buckethead intends to get them back, aided by diminutive, Jawa-robed minions known as gremloids. However, unbeknownst to him, he has made a serious navigational error, and rather than reaching his intended destination he lands instead upon the Earth, where he and his gremloid faction march into the closest small town and proceed with their mission. A purposefully STAR WARS-esque orchestral score was provided by newly-minted composer Don Davis, in his first feature film score. Performed by a live, 56-piece orchestra, Davis’s music provided the film with its missing gravitas; and it made enough of an impression among Hollywood film music folk that it led to a lasting and respectful career scoring films and television, including TV’s BEAUTY AND THE BEAST and SEAQUEST DSV and blockbuster films like THE MATRIX series and JURASSIC PARK III. “Obviously the movie was a parody of STAR WARS, so the only approach to music I could logically take was similarly a parody of John Williams’s work,” said Davis in an exclusive new interview for the album notes. “I got as close to STAR WARS as I could get without it being STAR WARS.” Davis provided the right kind of feeling to the music which gave the score a suitably grandiose dynamic and aided in the film’s parodist nature. The composer’s approach to supporting the film’s inherent humor was based on “not writing funny music,” but scoring the movie with absolute seriousness, thereby allowing the parody to exist within the film and among its characters in a world where even the most farcical of circumstances are treated with genuine integrity. “The concept of playing it straight, as if the show were not a comedy, was what we wanted to do with our movie,” said Davis. “We treated it as if it really was STAR WARS and everything was completely serious.” The film came and went without much ado or remembrance, but the music was noticed and that gave Davis an auspicious debut in this, his first opportunity to make the jump into… HYPERSPACE. The score was first released on an 11-track CD in 1993, paired with another Davis score. This expanded reissue from Dragon’s Domain Records includes eight previously-unreleased tracks. HYPERSPACE is a limited edition release of 1000 units and can be ordered at www.buysoundtrax.com. Ginnane during the boom of the Australian New Wave of cinema in the late 1970s and early 1980s. THE BRIAN MAY FANTASY FILM MUSIC COLLECTION includes music from PATRICK (1978), SNAPSHOT (1979), HARLEQUIN (1980) and THE SURVIVOR (1981). PATRICK tells the story of Kathy (Susan Penhaligon) a young nurse who begins working at a small private hospital where she encounters Patrick (Robert Thompson), a comatose hospital patient who appears to have the ability to use his mind to influence the world around him. After killing his mother and her lover by electrocution, Patrick hasn’t left his bed in three years. Dr. Roget (Robert Helpmann) is in charge of Patrick’s treatment and has been secretly using him for his own personal experiment. As the story progresses, Patrick becomes more attached to Kathy and strange things start to happen around her. Directed by Richard Franklin and written by Everett De Roche, frequent collaborators who worked together on many films, including ROAD GAMES, PSYCHO II and LINK. SNAPSHOT, also known as ONE MORE MINUTE and DAY AFTER HALLOWEEN, tells the story of Angela (Sigrid Thornton), a young hairdresser who finds herself on her own for the first time after a difference of opinion with her mother about the way she’s living her life. One of Angela’s clients, Madeline (Chantal Contouri), thinks that she might make a good model and introduces her to Linsey (Hugh Keays-Byrne), a well regarded photographer. He convinces her to pose topless for him for a possible advertising campaign. Angela moves in with Linsey and starts spending time with other models while she waits for new modeling opportunities. Meanwhile, a mysterious figure driving an ice cream truck begins to stalk her… Equal parts drama, thriller and horror film, SNAPSHOT was directed by Simon Wincer (THE LIGHTHORSEMEN, LONESOME DOVE) and written by Everett De Roche and Chris De Roche. HARLEQUIN, also known as DARK FORCES, tells the story of Nick Rast (David Hemmings) and his family. The film begins with the disappearance of the Australian deputy governor. Rast is next in line to replace him. His son, Alex (Mark Spain) is suffering from leukemia and is no longer responding to treatment. One night, the family is visited by Gregory Wolfe (Robert Powell) a charismatic faith healer who claims he can cure Alex. Even after only spending a few minutes with Wolfe, it is apparent that he is having a positive effect on Alex’s health. As the film progresses, Wolfe manages to integrate himself into every aspect of Rast’s life, which does not go unnoticed by Rast’s political friends. HARLEQUIN was directed by Simon Wincer and written by Everett De Roche. Directed by David Hemmings, based on the novel by James Herbert and a screenplay by David Ambrose, THE SURVIVOR follows the aftermath of a terrible plane crash that claims the lives of all the passengers and crew except for one of the pilots. The film follows Keller (Robert Powell) as he tries to recall the events that led up to the crash and how he came to be the only one to survive. Keller meets Hobbs (Jenny Agutter), a local psychic who has been having visions since the night of the crash. She convinces Keller that the only way he will be able to find peace is to solve the mystery of the fatal crash. At the same time, the spirits of some of the children killed in the crash begin to appear to the local townsfolk, followed by a series of strange deaths… One thing these films have in common is the music of Brian May. All of Antony I. Ginnane’s horror/supernatural thrillers from this time period were scored by Brian May. For PATRICK, May composed a lush-sounding symphonic score supported by ARP synthesizer. His score for SNAPSHOT mixes dramatic orchestral music, with sublime romantic music and a fair amount of contemporary modern jazz. HARLEQUIN was scored for a variety of atonal motifs for strings, piano, and percussion, giving thematic unity through a lush, string-based love theme. THE SURVIVOR is arguably May’s most Herrmannesque score, opening with a main theme that recalls Herrmann’s Hitchcock collaborations. Born in Adelaide in 1934, Brian May (no relation to Brian Harold May of Queen) was one of the first composers to achieve international acclaim as an Australian composer and was best known as the composer of MAD MAX and THE ROAD WARRIOR (MAD MAX II). May received his musical training as a pianist, violinist and conductor at the Adelaide Elder Conservatorium. He joined the Australia Broadcasting Company in 1957, where he formed the ABC Adelaide Big Band, an ensemble that performed all manner of light music for broadcast, and May became a leading figure in Australian light music as a result. He moved to Melbourne in 1970 to arrange and conduct the ABC’s Melbourne Show band. Moving into film music in a period of time when Australia’s film industry was just beginning to take its place among international film circles, May composed such notable film scores as RACE FOR THE YANKEE ZEPHYR, ROAD GAMES, CLOAK AND DAGGER, DEATH BEFORE DISHONOR, MISSING IN ACTION 2, SKY PIRATES, STEEL DAWN, DR. GIGGLES, FREDDY’S DEAD: THE FINAL NIGHT MARE and BLINDSIDE. He won the Australian Film Institute Award for best original score with MAD MAX; many other awards followed, including the Golden Award from the Australian Performing Rights Association. He continued to score films until 1993, composing music for more than 30 films and many hours of television, most of which he orchestrated himself. Sadly, the composer passed away in 1997 at the age of 63. Previously released on compact disc by 1M1 Records in the early days of the compact disc format, Dragon’s Domain Records is excited to bring the contents of THE BRIAN MAY FANTASY FILM MUSIC COLLECTION back from the past, newly remastered by Digital Outland and presented together on two CDs. On this release, PATRICK is presented via a short seven-minute suite that encompasses the main elements of May’s score. Because the previous presentations of SNAPSHOT were markedly different, we have opted on bookending this collection with both versions of the SNAPSHOT soundtrack. Disc 1 presents the 1M1 release, which follows the film sequence. Disc 2 consists of the version assembled for Citadel Records. This version was edited and sequenced differently, but because we like this presentation very much, we wanted to include it as an alternate assembly for your listening pleasure. Our presentation of the HARLEQUIN score replicates that of the 1980 French MovieMusic vinyl release and the 1M1 CD. THE SURVIVOR appears as it did on the previous 1M1 release. The booklet includes exclusive liner notes written by author Randall Larson, with the participation of producer Antony I. Ginnane.
