  1.  Mdm. Maxime: [to Harry] I'll never forget how vonderful it vas.

Dumbledore: Why thank you. It was rather wonderful.

Maxime: [Kisses Harry] Zat's how us Beuxbatons say goodbye.

Karkaroff: Und zis is how ve zay goodbye in Durmstang, Mr. Potter.

    [Punches Harry]

Harry: I liked the Beuxbatons way better.

     Dumbledore: So did I.

    :sleepy:

Connery as Head of Hogwarts would freak me out in a way, the President of my undergrad college looks exactly like Connery.

  2. I wonder if Radcliffe, Watson and Grint don't want to do all 7 who theycould get to replace em? Probably just some other unknowns I gather.

I personally doubt that all of the three kids will do all 7 movies.

I've always doubted if all 7 movies were going to be made. Looks like it will happen though. When GoF is in the can they're more than half done. Pretty soon they're going to have to wait for JKR to finish the last two books.

  3. If The Riddle House does make it into the film there won't be any of the history. Frank Byce will just be a random old man in the wrong place at the wrong time. There just won't be any time in the movie to go into the history of the Riddles. It hasn't been important so far, other than so we know that Voldemort is half blood, which was established in CoS (book and film) so we don't need it here. It certainly isn't more important than the Maurader's history, and we know what happend to that.

John- who think his Quiddich World Cup opening is tops on the "Cool" meter, but would like to see The Riddle House for the sake of the story.

  4. GoF will probably start with the Quiddich World Cup. There was an official announcement months ago that the Dursleys won't be in GoF.

My idea of a cool opening sequence: WB Logo, "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire", then two Quiddich players flying right through the logo and pan down to the stadium where Ireland and Bulgaria are going at it tooth and nail. :(

But there will probably be a few dialogue scenes before the game to explain what's going on, and there should be for the story. I just think the action opening would look really cool.

John- also worried about the integrity of the GoF story in a 2 1/2-3 hour movie (I can't see how it could be any shorter than that)

  5. Hard to do. You can't count actual compositions, as the length in seconds depends on the performance. And if you count performances, you would have to count all performances or recordings or releases of Williams' works...so do you count normal and expanded releases twice, or only the longest one? What if there are alternate takes?

The head spins with the possibilites. :?

And then explodes if it attempts any of this.

  6. The "film version" of "Duel of the Fates" is a better performance than the concert version hacked and tracked into that film, but you wouldn't know that from the UE since it's not on there.

    Neil

For once Neil and I agree on something SW. Will wonders never cease? :)

  7. I've always liked the Patriot, and it came out right when I was really starting to get into Williams (at the time all I owned was the Star Wars SEs, TPM OST, and the 2 CD Superman). I remember that summer well, I got Superman, Raiders, ET, Hook, and Last Crusade. Happy days...

But after my Williams collection has grown and grown, I still enjoy the Patriot very much. The main theme is very good, and the action writing is up to Williams' usual standard. And "The Parish Church Aflame" is some of Williams best tragic writing, ever. The score is far from my top 10, but I still enjoy it quite a bit.

  8. The Phantom Meanace. Horribly re-edited to the point that it's unrecongnizable, and so many great cues left off the album. I'm glad that they seem to have learned, the AOTC OST was well representative of the score.

I'm surprised you didn't put PoA on the poll, K.M., considering your feelings about how the OST was put together.

  9. But Voldemort is human...

Marian - who doesn't think Dumbledore is a Maia. ;)

Is that Maia or Maiar? I can't remember which is plurual.

Dumbledore is Fawkes is crazy talk. So is Ginny is an animagus, I don't care how many cat references JKR makes when talking about her. Of course, I could be eating crow in a year. :|

John- who thinks Arthur Weasley will soon be Minister of Magic.

  10. I keep saying, why worked for Han and Leia and not for Anakin and Padme? The music does not stop it just drops down to a very little volume.

    I'll second that thought.

And when I went to see the movie for the first time there was nobody laughing. But quite a few people were standing and cheering like crazy when the little green guy broke out his lightsaber for the first time. :)

John- amazed that yet another thread has turned into a "the prequels suck and Lucas sucks" party.

  11. What's Lucas going to do next? I don't know about films, but...

The rumors currently spinning around the SW community are about a TV series. Reportedly, it would take place between Episodes 3 and 4, and depending on who you listen to the main focus will be on either Vader or Boba Fett. But it's all rumor, take it for what you will.

  12. Man, we keep this up and we'll have more gangs than a high school! What's next, the "I kinda like the OT, am ambivalent about the prequels, but really love the books" gang? The "I think Jedi's the best movie" gang? The "what the hell am I doing here" gang? Where does the madness end?! :sigh:

    :baaa:

Once again I break out the "I'm a loony" sign. Sometimes I belong in a Python sketch...

John- firmly entrenched in Group 3 and that's the way it stays.

  13. The use of the Sorcerer's Stone theme in Cos was a horrible decision that I hope was more Ross than JW. And the Opening of the Chamber was the worst of the lot! It's the only time I've actually physically cringed listening to a Williams score (of course this time it wasn't all Williams, which was the problem). So many moments that could have used the incredible Chamber theme.

I couldn't possibly cringe during that scene...sure, it's got the wrong theme, but the quality of the music definitely outweighs the improper leitmotif for me.

I see what you're saying, but there is no quality of music for me there. It's just so wrong, not just thematically but in every way. It's something I feel deep down in my gut, without even having to think about it.

  14. Great points, Luke. The same people who are always complaining about too much CG in Star Wars, and that CG is evil, seem oddly silent about other films that use as much CG. Those big battle shots in LOTR were created on a computer, you know? ;)

Personally, after I saw AOTC for the first time I thought that Lucas had done something I wasn't sure he could do: make a movie as visually stunning and beautiful as the previous winter's LOTR: Fellowship of the Ring. There's a reason that Peter Jackson said he redid some things in Two Towers the summer before it came out so he could try to keep up with Lucas.

  15. My vote goes to AOTC also. Any score that I spend the better part of two days on various computers on campus trying to download it off any site I can find, then spend the month leading up to the film listening to it non-stop gets my vote. And yes, I did buy it when it came out in case anybody was wondering. ;)

A highly underrated score, in my opinion. It suffers from the lack of the big action/battle climax it should have had, but I'm still hoping beyond hope that something will be done about that during the Ep. 3 scoring sessions. Not likely, though. The three (or really 2 and a half) HP scores come right after.

  16. I'm also a proud member of the gang that only recognizes greatness in the two first Star Wars movies.

Star Wars Gang 1: Only the first two movies are great. (that's the coolest gang)

Star Wars Gang 2: Bows down for the Trilogy.

Star Wars Gang 3: Trilogy and Prequels are great.

Star Wars Gang 4: Only the Prequels are great. (not sure if this gang has any members)

Put me firmly in Gang 3. And I really don't care if you see it as the cool one or not. :P

  17. I am.At least the year waiting for HP3 was fun.nobody(well, almost nobody) was negative in advance about the movie and this kept the board going for a year. Now every time I see Star Wars in the title,I skip half the posts in the threads after reading a few lines, because it`s going to say the same thing over and over from the same persons involved in the debate.

I tried to start a `positive` Ep 3 thread a while ago and only a few people replied in it,then the `Lucas raped my childhood`gang highjacked it anyways.

2002 was the worst year of my life, and I only had 3 things to cheer me back up,new John Williams c.d.`s ,the JWfan board and AotC.And you know what, even a relatively bad Star Wars film helped me along the way, something I could still cling to when everything else sucked even more.

    Very well put KM.
