  1. John Williams will die of an overdose,

wait, he'll be killed in an Earthquake, or maybe he burn up in a highrise fire, could be he might get eaten by a shark, or walk into a propellor blade.  There is a small chance his heart will get ripped out, or get chewed up by a t-rex, or a velociraptor.

There is a very slight chance he will get smashed by a cannonball, or commit suicide after watching AI.  Voldemort might hit him with the Arvadra Kedavra(sp?) curse, or even executed for a future crime he might commit.

Nah, epic lightsaber deul. And for those of you who think that the old guys can't wield a lightsaber, (highlight for Ep. 3 spoiler)check out Palpatine in Ep. 3!

  2. I agree, I don't see why we need to discuss this. We all know that we'll be devastated when he does pass away. But instead of obsessing about it, let's enjoy the time between now and that unknown and hopefully far away time to it's fullest. We know he's gonna keep writing music until that day comes. And after.

  3. I like the Patriot quite a bit, but it would never be in my top 10 or anything. The main theme is quite good. It has a very (no pun intended) patriotic feel to it, which I'm sure doesn't appeal to many outside the US, but is a big reason I like it so much.

I don't believe that many John Williams fans base their opinions of The Patriot on political undertones. Also remember that Revolutionary patriotism is quite different from today's.

It has nothing to do with political undertones, just love of my country. And it's not the basis for my liking the score, just one of several reasons. Read my whole post.

And as for others, I've seen several people say they didn't like the American patriotic undertones in the score. How much of a degree this plays is up to the individual listener.

  4. As far as i know,it will be impossible to come to any consensus...which is why JW is such a great composer. He adapts to the movie not to people tastes.

I didn't mean that everyone agrees. I don't think it could happen, or want it to happen. Just tally up the resuslts and see what ends up on top. I don't agree with all of the scores in the Official Top 10, but I accept the results as the consensus opinion of everyone that submitted a top 10 list.

  5. It's all about the countdown to Ep. 3 now.

With all the top 10 lists that have been flying around lately, maybe we should do some official ones, like the Official Top 10 Scores from a couple of years ago. We could have another top 10 scores, top 10 cues, top 10 themes, worst 10 scores, and any other craziness we can think of. I know we've done most of these unofficially recently, but it would be cool to tally up resuslts and see what the consensus is.

  6. I certainly don't love the score for Hook because I love the movie. As I've said before, Hook's score is even better considering the very bad movie it was written for. But I still picture the flow of the movie's narrative while listening to the score. The score wouldn't exist if not for the movie.

  7. Why does everyone hate the Patriot?

I like the Patriot quite a bit, but it would never be in my top 10 or anything. The main theme is quite good. It has a very (no pun intended) patriotic feel to it, which I'm sure doesn't appeal to many outside the US, but is a big reason I like it so much. The other themes are serviceable, not great or awful. The action music is, as always, rather good. I also consider The Parish Church Aflame to be some of Williams' best tragic writing ever.

  8. Luke's not even wearing a black glove on the cover of Return of the Jedi!  Let me guess, that's before the sailbarge fight, right?

    Neil

Isn't that from right before he says "Get the gun! Point it at the deck!"?

SeekUYoda, who hasn't seen ROTJ in a while.

It's from some point in the Sail Barge battle. He didn't put the glove on until after.

  9. I feel the same way about it as Ray. I have an excellent audial memory so I can recall the precise moment in the scene at any given point during the cue. So listening to the score in chronological order enables me to replay the film in my head. Aside from that, it's just more satisfying, and to me makes more sense.

I'm like this too. Once I am familiar with the score in the film, I don't pay any attention to track titles. I just connect the cue I'm hearing to the scene that it's used in the film. Half the time when I'm referencing track titles on the board I have to go look them up! ;)

Plus all my 1 CD OSTs are edited to be in cronological order, so I often forget how the original CD was arranged too.

  10. Incorrect again John, TNG was superior to both shows, but Voyager was a good show on its own, Enterprise is ehh.

I don't think I've been incorrect about this yet, much less again. You may think so, but I don't. ;)

Like everything else, to each his own.

EDIT (to avoid the dreaded double post)- Theforce.net just posted what was thought to be the first picture of the Ep. 3 Vader costume, but it turns out it's an old one.

  11. Classic Trek is NOT camp, i'm sure you do not even know what camp is.

    ;)

The Adam West Batman series was camp. The 1980 Flash Gordon was camp. Star Trek was a serious science fiction series. It was never made to be goofy or to get a cheap laugh at the expense of characters or situations. It had humor, sure, but always to serve the story. At least during the first two seasons.

    Neil

All right, point taken, poor choice of words. But it does seem pretty cheesy to me. Never got into it. But I don't like Next Generation much either. The only ST series I've really gotten into is DS9.

And yes, Batman was the ultimate in camp. It's probably in the dictionary under camp.

  12. I didn't like how Gambon's hair as Dumbledore was slightly more gray, than Harris' Dumbledore.

I didn't like how Gambon's fingernails as Dumbledore were slightly longer than Harris' Dumbledore's nails.

I thought Gambon's walk as Dumbledore was more masculine and virile compared to Harris' Dumbledore.

    LOL

  13. I like listening to film music in chronological order because I love how it can tell the story of the film.   And there's also the fact that thematic development is often best preserved by chronological sequencing.

Couldn't have put it better myself. My feelings too.
