  1. You forgot to copy the various ratings-- or were they added after you copied the review? Here they are-- May the Farce be with you,
  2. Pixie's story reminded me that I was exposed to Williams' music a bit earlier in fact: my mother bought me a Star Wars read-along 33 1/3 LP in 1979 (I was 5). I'll have to play it to be sure, but I guess there was little music by itself ad it was rather mixed along with the sound effects & dialogue (the back cover reads "Musical backgrounds"), so I'm not sure it qualifies here; a nice memory anyway.
  3. My very first Williams score-- indeed, my very very first film score: E.T., in 1982; I was 8 (so, if you want to split hairs, it was really my mother who bought it and offered it to me ). My very first Williams CD, along with my CD player (and only one, it still works): John Williams Conducts John Williams: The Star Wars Trilogy (1992). Trivia: I have always tried all my DVD/CD(ROM) players with the main title from this CD-- in other words, it is the one that i play first (sort of a nerdish fanboyish tradition, uh?).
  4. I have only seen each movie once and haven't read any of the books yet. I don't remember that the stone in question turned base metal into gold (unlike the true Philosopher's Stone), and I don't even remember what it did. Am I mistaken?
  5. What is wrong is buying dozens to make them scarcer and selling them ten times their price. Imagine, if someone rushed before you to the store to buy all the stock of, say, Hershley's chocolate syrup (yum) only to sell it $200 in the street. That wouldn't be right either. Silly parallel, but you get the point. -edit- Nice signature, Stefancos
  6. I'm totally with Johnnyecks on this. And Johnny: those 4 Predator CD's are the ones we seenow; he may have already sold as many, or he may have another four for later. Were I to buy an extra CD or DVD, it would be either as a backup or for a trade, never to scam people. Let's be wild and make the following hypothesis: even if I did sell such a CD, I wouldn't have the heart-- no, let me rephrase this-- I would have the heart of not selling it at such a price; maybe not for $20, but for no more than $20-30 more than the original price for an OOP CD (even this sounds too much); I would set the kind of price I would find reasonable to pay myself. The horrible thing is that there are people out there who are making a business hording such items with the sole intention of reselling them at skyrocketing prices; and I am certain many if not most of those people do not even know who exactly Goldsmith or Norh is, let alone listen to their music; they just know they're worth money the easy way: they buy multiple copies (1-2 from the publisher, and several from various retailers) on day one, making these CD's unfairly scarcer for the true film music lovers whom they plan to scam; and quite obviously they do the same when someone warns the number of remaining copies has reached fewer than 50-100. "Justify" it all you want by saying it's capitalism, free enterprise, freedom of doing whatever you want with what you buy / your money, blablabla, ..., from a moral standpoint it's bad- and even worse when it comes to selling Young's "The Core", which was a gift.
  7. A curse on ye colorized movies! I would like a DVD set of Disney's Zorro series, but I dread their decision-- I want the original b&w .
  8. Per composer & categories-- Goldsmith & Williams (with several in the following categories as well) Disney, Western, Space (Space Camp, Star Trek movies, plus Superman & Supergirl), Action, "Dark", Water, "African", ... Broughton, Poledouris, Elfman, ... Compilations & Promos, Golden Age Composers: favorite ones first, then per genre, (ex: Goldmith "classics", Goldsmith thrillers, ...) Disney: in chronological order Categories: order of preference
  9. In no particular order-- "Flying"-- E.T.-- but also "Three Billion Light Years from Home", "E.T. and Me", the chase & finale "Love Theme from Superman"-- I need to check what movie this one is from "Leaving Home"-- Superman Theme & "Remembrances"-- Schindler's List "Where Dreams Are Born"-- A.I. "Welcome to Jurassic Park"-- Jurassic Park "Luke and Leia"/"Brother and Sister"-- Star Wars, Episode VI: Return of the Jedi
  10. Flabbergasting. And it's not even a poll on a fan board but an "official" poll! Asking "what other film composer would you have liked to score Star Wars" is a valid question, but this?! Such choices?! What were they thinking? Were they drunk when they conducted that poll? So those who answered would have liked techno? Maybe they would also like Anakin and Padme to attend a Reloaded rave scene and visit a Revolutions S&M-like club, dressed in "Catwoman" suits. Well to them. :P
  11. I'm waiting for the CD. In fact, given the release dates of both movie & CD and the time it will take to get the latter, I may even discover the music in the movie. - Edit - Darn you, Stefancos! I've just realized I should have posted my very first message here in the "What are your 10 favorite JW tracks" instead! Oh well... livier
