Harry Potter, Star Wars, Jaws, Jurassic Park, Home Alone, Magnificent 7, Homeward Bound, Psyco, Lord of the Rings... Those are the ones known by teens and the whole kid generation. They don't know much else. BUT, they DEFINETLY notice the music. Like if you make one of them watch Hook or Schindler's List, they'll notice the music. We watched To Kill a Mockingbird. They all noticed this one kind of danger theme that played a LOT and they all noticed it and hated it. It was in the background.... So it wasn't obvious. Anyway. Witness - A song our choir got a 1 rating on at state. We kicked arse.

http://movies.channel.aol.com/franchise/ex...of_narnia_movie Over on the left hand, middle, side of the page are 2 links to the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe movie trailer... This one is MUCH longer than the one that was on during CoS tonight. ... Looks promising.

Well, if you take the way JK Rowling expects her audience to act like the Harry Potter world is serious, then this tournament is like one of the greatest honors in the whole wizarding world, if you win it. Its like the SuperBowl in a sense... except tons bigger. So that line really makes sense, if you take the scope of the tournament into perspective.

In which genre should JW do more scores?
jamesie replied to Antineutrino's topic in General Discussion
Well... Here's the way I look at it. If Harry Potter and Hook are considered children's movies... then I say bring on the kids. E.T. was one too. Home Alone... That's another. Children's movies, good ones, bring out some great writing in John. So yeah. Seeing his take on "Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" would have been very interesting. -
She looks dowdy, considering what the book described her as. She was supposed to look much older... more mature... and in a stunning blue dress... She just looks very, very nice... Maybe she's getting ready to go mudwrestling - that'd explain the dowdiness

Which is the best John Williams Trilogy?(score wise)
jamesie replied to King Mark's topic in General Discussion
I prefer to think of it as boring but yeah.... i just think of it as a transition score for a transitional movie between 2 better ones. So I DO like it. -

Which is the best John Williams Trilogy?(score wise)
jamesie replied to King Mark's topic in General Discussion
I just like Harry Potter 1 & 3 too much to not vote for the whole trilogy. All the Star Wars and Indiana Jones are great and have nice themes and just great all-around music.... But I just like Harry Potter too much. -
Goblet of Fire teaser trailer in theaters May 13

Different ochestration, voices, instruments... I prefered it greatly to the one on CD. -
Mine Are... 1. War of the Worlds. 1(tie) Goblet 2. Geisha 3. Charlie and the C.F. 4. Chronicle's of Narnia Explanation... For WotW, I am hoping for a big thematic movie with amazing theme-filled )but well written action music and not just Negative Nancy underscore. Ugh. But I have a feeling it'll be a small dash of Jurassic Park's moodier moments, a few of C.E.'s, and a larger dose of Minority Report. Hopefully not, though. For HP GoF: Just from listening to Doyle's Little Princess, I am SURE Doyle will be able to do this job very well. I just know he can cause the music in that one movie alone was outstanding. Let's hope it's a soundtrack filled with new true Harry Potter-inspired music with some old in the mix. Geisha: A Chinese-ish score could be marvelous. Just as themactially rich as Hook... I can see that very easily for some odd reason. Charlie & T. C.F.: As good as Ed. Scissorhands! I know this guy can do it!! Chronicles of Narnia: I think I saw the guy's name who's doin the music... Din't recognize him as with most Disney movie composers. BUT, I hope he can make an awesome fantasy score for a (hopefully) awesome fantasy movie. I have 2 sidenotes that didn't need a new thread, so I'll just post them here......... 1) I noticed that no other big-name film composer has any big fan-site/forum like this!!! It shows you that William's music really has touched more and inspired more ppl than others. Course, he's older, so the base of his fan-base is older (and broader) too... But still... Pretty cool. 2) I listened to Pirates of the Caribbean ST. We were on a looong busride to Minnesota for a big Festival of Nations thing. I had a "sandwich au jambon" from the French food thing and asked for it in French: GO ME!!! WOO! NEWAY 8O I listened to it... And... I like the themes, but GOOD LORD! This guy cannot write deep, thick music! It's all shallow and based on like one or two different themes! UGH! BORRING! And a TON of the kids on my bus have that CD. I was all like, "Hey, Listen to something much better. You'll like it."But they were all like "Oh, we must not listen to James's music cause we have long shaggy hair and wear jeans that droop to our knees so it looks like we're carryin a load." Not really; I didn't even suggest nething. I know most of the kids would have liked ne of my JW stuff (I know that from experience; most of them do like it a lot), BUT I know they wouldn't have appreciated it as much as I do. Which is why they like Pirates of the Caribbean. Shallow, and don't know what to appreciate. Ugh. It bugged me.

Well yeah but wasn't that like a LOT closer to the movie's release? Idk

The trailer will come out later than the preview.. But the preview will probably have a lot of quick scenes that'll be in the trailer too.

moviemusic-makers vs. rockstars : the showdown has begun!!!
jamesie replied to Maraquesh's topic in General Discussion
Well, you are similar to Pres. Bush's ad campaigns. They take everything out of context and even subtract a word or two. And by the way, is Schindler's list not serious music? But lo' and behold! No lyrics!!! I take Schindler's list and the storyline the music is derived from VERY seriously. You must not take the story of Schindler's List seriously. Are you saying Nazi's are good? Are you racist? I bet you hate non-Nazi's! You fool. -
is john williams really as good as a real composer
jamesie replied to Maraquesh's topic in General Discussion
Ok, let's just face it here, guys, we've ALL been proven wrong; thinking that John Williams is as good as he is. This guy knows what he's talking about, obviously. John W. can't write anything more than simple tunes. And when compared to a true king, James Horner, who writes THE most memorable, un-underscorey, unboring music in the world, John Williams just doesn't cut it. Horner> <Williams -
is john williams really as good as a real composer
jamesie replied to Maraquesh's topic in General Discussion
Uhhhh?! Please, write a 2 hr score for the next harry potter movie. full score please. I want to hear those simple tunes. Please write the equivalent of ET, Jurassic Park, Hook, etc... Please. I'm talking writing music thats good and full; as good as beethoven. You do that, and you're point mite have relevancy. I think your dealio is that you like slightly different music than John Williams writes and can't see the beautiful complexity of all of his works. And I want a definition of a real composer, besides your baby brother. -
*The Official Revenge Of The Sith Soundtrack Review Thread*
jamesie replied to Sandor's topic in General Discussion
Could someone p.m. a web address of the soundtrack? Cause the two I have been using don't work now. Thanks a bunch! -
Even though I like RotS, I hope WotW is 10 times better with lottttsss of thematic material.
-
Well... Here's my contribution to the start-of-the-war effort... This, as a whole, is my favorite Prequel score. All of the action music is much better, namely because it is connected with themes and motifs throughout, most notably the Force theme. I really like all of the scatterings of old music. Uhhmm... Compared to Duel of the Fates or, in my opinion, even Across the Stars, Battle of the Heroes isn't that great as a concert piece. But mediocre pieces like that can sound excellent in the movie like in the Lord of the Ring movies. They suck on the soundtrack, but if used correctly in the movie, they can be great. I don't like the Throne Room music at the end... Blah, blah, and blah. But I liked the SOUND of each of these tracks much better than AotC. Better mixing; much crisper..... ....... Even with the old themes mixed into this score, I think there's too little new, thematic, memorable material to make this score a classic. But it is very good, better than the previous two in its own ways. And not as good in others. PS: I was 20,000 times more impressed to hear PoA's music for the first time. Maybe this score just ain't for me.
