I don't know which BABYSITTER film is in your collection. There are obviously many films with that title (and that's without taking porn into consideration). The 2022 film has a marvelous score by Forever Pavot, one of the 10 best that year, and the 1975 film likewise has a stunning Francis Lai score. But I don't believe it could be any of those, since both leave out the "The".

Depends. I like some of it, when there's a solid auteur behind the camera. Like Argento. But it isn't usually something I'm attracted to. Music-wise, however, they can often spawn some absolutely brilliant scores. Like Donaggio's ALL LADIES DO IT (aka COSI FAN TUTTE), which is featured on your photo spread.

Yes, I got this from Fabrizio a couple of weeks ago. It's a solid composition, although perhaps wandering somewhat aimlessly here and there.

Thanks for taking a look and elaborating, Marian! I first heard of him while assembling my list of oldest living film composers over on FSM a few years ago. Then I researched him, and found - as you say - that he was the composer of many sex comedies and the like, a genre that has always spawned great, loungey scores. After that, I got the really enjoyable compilation in the "Deutsche Filmkomponisten" series (he's Austrian, but I suppose many of the productions were German). As there aren't THAT many internationally famous Austrian film composers beyond Korngold (Gold? Wander & Kloser? Haslinger?), and given his advanced age, I thought perhaps he was a famous entity in Austria. Like most people, at least culturally aware ones, know who 91-year-old Per Nørgård is in Denmark.

This has nothing to do with Hollywood in Vienna (now more or less defunct, until otherwise noted), but I was curious how Austria views Gerhard Heinz? Marian? A legendary composer, 96 years old, who's done a lot of film scores.

Same here. I find the score so-so to begin with, but it has a few great highlighs, especially the more mystical or lyrical parts. So my 63-minute playlist will do. Will probably do the same with season 2, when that soundtrack drops. But I can easily understand why this box is sought-after for LOTR fans.

A JNH concert sounds great, but clicking at the link, only post-millennium scores are mentioned in the blurb, which I (for the most part) find underwhelming. If this had focussed on the 80s and 90s stuff, I'd be totally envious of anyone able to attend.

Since Hercules is a fictional character, and not a historic person, I suppose anything goes - especially in this day and age. Weird, yes, but not as weird as making Isaac Newton black(?) in the most recent DR. WHO.

Looks like a great box, if you ask me. Even beyond "entry level". Most of his other compilations are director-centered anyway.

I also dig his Le Cinema de Georges Lautner compilation. I think many of these are available on streaming platforms. Good luck -- he's a composer well worth exploring. Not all are equally great, and he repeats himself a few times, Horner-style, but nothing that will ruin the journey.
