  1. Have you tried cleaning the disc with a cloth or even washing it? I hear in other forums this helps a lot with your problem.. Now, that you mention it, I also have Close Encounters, and I wonder if it has gone bad...
  2. See here, Excised final chapter: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Picnic_at_Hanging_Rock_(novel)
  3. I see the (US) blu-ray of that one is also OOP and is going high at ebay!
  4. Just purchased a used Nixon blu-ray (Kino edition - includes both theatrical and director's cut) for 118 euros from ebay!! (It's OOP, that's why the price is steep)
  5. Very good theme for a religious TV film, by Frisina, and overall a quite good score.
  6. Oh, sorry, I didn't think about it. I will edit my post ASAP!
  7. What the thread's title says. If you can post youtube links starting with the theme, even better. (I know it's a bit of a hassle, but it's not mandatory) Main theme from A Single Man Catwoman theme from Batman Returns Love theme from Dracula Wedding theme from Braveheart Main theme from The Piano Esther/Love theme from Ben-Hur Main theme from Princess Mononoke Main theme from Jesus of Nazareth Main theme from The Last of the Mohicans Main theme from Star Trek
  8. Well, I like the slow romantic theme, but the rest from what I remember is sound design-y and some upbeat techno stuff and such.. That's why I said it was an unusual choice. I thought you liked mainly orchestral music.
  9. Is there a top 10 overall favorite film music themes thread? Or I should start one? Although, again, I'd like it to be a non-Williams thread, because I'm sure for most of us Williams would dominate our lists.
  10. I just won this in an ebay auction for €64.36 (incl. shipping and VAT). It's my favorite of the Mad Max films. I didn't like the first one, and I cannot remember the second. Maybe I should watch it again?
  11. Well, I always watch the theatrical cut first, to see what the audiences experienced at the time of release. Although, not having the whole wave thing plot in the end, I was left with questions in the end. I mean I felt "this is it?"
  12. A 1957 film with Elizabeth Taylor, and Montgomery Clift, Gone with the wind like. It's included in the 100 essential film scores of the 20th century. https://www.americanmusicpreservation.com/100filmscores.htm It holds a special place in my heart because it was the first soundtrack I've ever heard (I mean as an album, apart from the picture) and the reason I'm now a film music lover. I also think the Love theme is my favorite love theme ever! (more even than any of Williams's love themes)
  13. Yeah, I guess you're right. But somehow, I expected more for this kind of theme (although I haven't seen the film).
  14. Nope. Favorite John Williams theme I guess is Schindler's List. (although favorite score overall is E.T.) (I'm a sentimental and sensitive kind of guy! )
  15. I was thinking of starting a thread about 10 favorite non-John Williams scores ever! (if I was to post my list for 10 overall favorite scores, I'm sure 8-9 out of 10 would be John Williams scores) But I might as well post here my list: In no particular order: Poledouris - Conan the Barbarian Elfman - Batman Returns Kilar - Dracula Rozsa - Ben-Hur Green - Raintree County Howard - Waterworld Horner - Braveheart Goldsmith - Legend Nyman - The piano Menken - Beauty and the Beast
  16. How can an Oscar nominated composer and and Oscar winner composer collaborate and make this outcome, I will never understand...
  17. I hadn't seen that for over 10, maybe 15 years and I finally decided to buy the blu-ray. Masterpiece and a masterful score that gave me a couple of hair-raising moments!
  18. Well, surround is not always a good thing. I have watched old films that have been ruined by boxy sound in the 5.1 mixes (or even missing elements), which sound perfectly fine in stereo (or even mono).
  19. I don't know if you guys have followed the debate and arguments in blu-ray related forums about the new UHDs of James Cameron films (namely Aliens, True Lies, The Abyss, Titanic). They have been degrained and AI upscaled resulting in controversial results. Here's an interesting article: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/04/13/movies/ai-blu-ray-true-lies.html The 2 sides are those that like this new re-visualization look, including the esteemed film preservationist Robert Harris who has given the releases a 10/10 for picture/audio quality over at hometheaterforum and the so-called "purists" side. If you ask me, I prefer the original look of the films with grain, and in no way I'm gonna support this travesty by buying these discs. What is your side? Both sides have become the object of hot arguments and sarcasm from the other side, and generally there is a heated debate in the internet.
  20. Stereo is just fine too. Why everything must be surround? Especially in drama films.
