There is that Titan A.E. film from another company, but - although it had its moments - it wasn't so good.
For those of you who probably don't know it, you can check Gandahar (or Light years) (1988).
A really weird sci-fi animation that is cult.
(i would go with the original French version , and with the original score of Gabriel Yared.)

My dream film would be for Disney to do a standalone Star Wars feature animated in the style of Sleeping Beauty. Shame it'll never happen, despite Disney owning Star Wars, and being built on classic, painterly animation.
After all, Star Wars is a fairy tale.
hmmm... Interesting idea.
Although I'd prefer if they left Star Wars alone and did a new sci-fi idea..

I really miss hand-drawn animation.. At least from USA (because we still have from Japan and Europe).
This comment just made me realize that the Japanese don't seem to be really fond of 3D animation. Well, at least, they haven't done many 3D animation movies. European countries have produced quite a few, but I could hardly name one Japanese 3D animation film. Interesting...
Hmmm, you're right!
And you would expect otherwise, since from what I believe Japan is so advanced in technology!!
Well, they probably know something not getting into 3d until now..
the only Japanese 3d animation I know and have seen is this:
-
Still waiting for An American Tail (and The Land Before time) to be released in Bluray!
We're lucky -those of us - that grew up with magic..

Question: What is it that makes Traditional Animation special to you?
Don’s Answer: Oh that’s easy. First of all as one who works in it, I think it’s more fun to draw the actual drawings and to find those emotions on the characters than it is to move a puppet around inside a computer. The challenge is greater; it’s harder to draw an emotion whereas in the computer you’ve got a puppet that you’ve built and rigged, and you have several expressions you can put on that puppet, but it somehow just doesn’t have the same magic in it as when you’re drawing.
The other thing is the color. I mean I really like the flat very bright vivid colors and the soft painted backgrounds of traditional animation. It has a look about it that’s just different from CG. I can compare that to watercolor and oil painting. They have a different feel when you see the subject that has been rendered on the canvas or the paper. I feel the same way about traditional animation; it’s a shame that no one has seen it as a marketing gold mine.
I think it will come back around. I do believe that somewhere someone is going to make one of those and it’s going to make a lot of money. Then all of the studios will say “Let’s go do that” because they will follow where the money is. But I don’t know when that is going to happen. As long as the theaters that show the films are monopolized by the big studios, I think we have a long wait.

Of course. the ideal thing would be someone to combine both.
It occured to me, how great it would be if Warwick Davis (Willow) had played Frodo. If he was still young that is..

I don't know. Even if they are good actors, to me, it takes away from the believability of the thing.
I could never believe that those people in Lord of the Rings were supposed to be dwarfs.
-
I also appreciate very much the fact that they searched and found so many dwarfs to play in the film, than take non-dwarfs people and make them look like it with effects.
Producers and directors were very inventive and creative in those old days.
I strongly believe that computers kill creativity, both in films and in music!

It means I'm not selling unless somebody pays me big money for it.

There's this one performance with Quincy Jones conducting:
Thank you! Hadn't seen that!

I guess it will be something like those Science Academy awards (don't remember how they're called), that they show some snippets afterwards in the regular Academy Awards ceremony.
i miss the old days with that music score ballet sequence they had..
The Ghost-Avalon-Home Alone-Dances with wolves-Havana one,
and the Fugitive - Schindler's list -age of innocence- remains of the Day- The firm one, marked my childhood!
I had recorded them on tape from TV and listened to them over and over...
When was the last time they actually played selections from the scores live? 2005? (with Itzhak Perlman playing Brokeback Mountain, The Constant Gardener, Memoirs of a Geisha, Munich, and Pride & Prejudice.)
Oh, I don't remember that at all! Are you sure?
They played Memoirs of a Geisha live and I don't remember it??
Edit: Oh, I found it! (Peculiar. I indeed didn't remember anything)

Also the band orchestration (no strings) for some reason makes it feel more unique
Actually it did have a Double bass, which I didn't expect, since after all it's a concert band.
Isn't double bass kind of regular for wind orchestras?
Hmmm.. I don't think so. But I'm not sure. It's a wind orchestra as you say.

Thank you.. It was a fairly good piece, but I felt too that it was like bits stitched together..
I didn't feel it was a tight-knit work.
Maybe i'll change my mind in repeated listens.

This sounds to me like writing a substitute score for a film that its original score was rejected.
Absolutely correct. It turns out that Abel Korzeniowski has replaced none other than JAMES HORNER for Romeo and Juliet!!

WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!
I expect the best!

no way in HELL would ABC want 50 minutes of music to take up their time. What a disaster that would be.
it wouldn't be just 50 minutes.
Include the interviews, and the songs, that would be 90 minutes minimum!
Oh, i guess you were just referring to the duration of the music segment, and not the entire programme.

The line notes, referring to Catch me if you Can say,
While Williams had never previously composed in this style [jazz] for his film scores (...)

Well, that looks dumb. But it could be fun... but dumb.
Hey Tuomas Kantelinen is scoring this! Cool! Let's hope he unleashes some serious orchestral whoop-assery for this film.
I don't know what's wrong with me and can't appreciate at all CGI effects (except when they first appeared), but I fully appreciate traditional effects like stop-motion and puppetry (like in Willow for example)

WOW!
“A symphony orchestra of Los Angeles studio musicians will perform a suite from each score of up to 10 minutes in length,” the governors said. “Subject to availability, each original composer will conduct his or her own work. We’re planning for brief onstage conversation with composers and their directors about the process of creating music for motion pictures.”
oh, no....
(...) which is not expected to be televised, and thus not available to anyone outside of the L.A. area (...)
I wonder though how they will "perform" the sound-design-y and synthesized scores. (if there is any nominated)
They will have 10 PCs/MACs on stage?
