Someone might be interested in this:
Dartmoor from WAR HORSE for String Orchestra from the offiicial Hal Leonard youtube channel:

I still don't know what is the original version of the first theme.
Look at (and listen to) bar 5, 2nd chord. There is an Eb.(C minor chord)
In the ost, film and piano sheet music that is a natural E. (C major chord)
In the full score signature edition, in the performance by Williams in 2012 with the Boston Pops and as it seems in this arrangement too, it's Eb.
I like the natural E much better. What do you think?
I was thinking maybe the Eb was a mistake originally in the signature edition, and Williams overlooked it in his performance?

lately I follow a site (http://411posters.com/category/movie-posters/ ) which mentions upcoming movie poster releases (mostly of old films I think) and this may interest some.
If I had the budget I'd buy it!

filmmusic got a reaction from carlborg in Are you currently writing, or seriously planning to write, a book on John Williams?
Well, it's not an actual book, that will be published that is, but it's my PhD dissertation on Williams' style, which is strictly musicological.
I had planned it as a 4 chapter (beyond the introductory chapter) dissertation, but it seems it will be 3 in the end. (I've almost abandoned the idea of a melody chapter because it wasn't turning out as I'd like it to be)
I have written more than 1,5 chapters till now (around 150 pages) and at this rate I hope to have finished it by the end of the year, because I have already been very very late.
it will be unfortunately in Greek.
When I finish it and it is accepted, i was planning to upload it here, just for looking at the numerous musical examples and diagrams, so that someone could get an idea of it.

filmmusic got a reaction from carlborg in Upcoming film music book including chapter on John Williams
    Dear members,
I've not logged in for quite some time due to some problems, but I thought to post this here now.

This is an upcoming book on film music (in English and due to publication in December according to amazon) with chapters on various film composers including one on John Williams:
    http://www.palgrave.com/gp/book/9781137573742#aboutBook

The chapter is co-written by Emilio Audissino, who I'm sure you know from his excellent book on John Williams (and is a member here too), and myself.
Emilio's part copes with the historical side and importance of Williams' film music.
My contribution to the chapter is strictly musicological. I'm examining the musical syntax of Williams' themes based on Caplin’s academically acclaimed study of classical theme-types, along with more contemporary theorists’ views of some sentential types.
Six notated musical examples are included representing five different types that are most prevalent on Williams' thematic output, and also a statistical table with the percentages of these types in my analysis of 341 themes.
This part of the chapter is really an abridgement of a much longer chapter from my upcoming musicological dissertation on John Williams.

I would like to thank Emilio very much, since he was the one that thought of me and suggested to the editors that we should co-write the chapter.
This represents my first academic publication so it was really important for me and I'm very happy about it!
