I recognized him based on the music. I did after he was revealed. What I loved about that opening scene was not just how he was revealed, but how that grenade thing kind of foreshadowed how he would play with others' lives for the rest of the movie. He has a kind of random humanity about him that really reflects modern society. It really is the Joker's movie. I could easily watch that character for a whole nother movie, which just makes Ledger's untimely death even more tragic.

Please God don't let there be another one. I mean I enjoyed KotCS, but I do remember coming out feeling a little disappointed. I guess the excitement of actually being around to see an Indy movie on the big screen was really setting us all up for a disappointment unless the movie really delivered a 'wow' experience, which I would say it didn't come close to. I mean by the final scene with Irina meeting her maker, I had pretty much stopped caring. The special effects had gone beyond Spielberg's promise and the skyward shots of the spaceship made me seriously worried about what was coming up. Fears that were shortly confirmed. The end was rescued from ruin for me by the fedora business though; a nice touch.

If it makes it easier for scores to be released when pressing might be too expensive, then I guess it works, but they shouldn't be compromising on the quality like that. For ink/glue to still be wet really speaks of just-in-time production gone mad. Now I've done business studies and I know how cost-saving it can be, but you need to at least have a saleable product come out of it... meh.

I heard this song on the radio a few weeks ago, and immediately went on a search to find out what it was: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3nf078KIy7g Now the style of song really isn't my taste as I hate rap, but it's the melody starting at 0:36 and repeated a gazillion times, that just melts my heart. This song never fails to put me in a good mood. Would make a great love theme IMO, in fact I challenge anyone to listen to this a couple of times and not be humming it for the next week. What a sad statement. Indeed. Even saying this as a film music fan, you're missing a lot of great songs that frequently have the same effect as a great piece of score.

I think you've hit my feelings right on the head - it's the pretty much nonexistent plot which meant that by that time, I really didn't care what happened. I do however think that with the right plot and film type coming before it, that scene would've worked.

I actually love both the scene and the music. I just don't think the scene fits an Indy film.

Neither Glory or Legends of the Fall really got me (although the scores are classics). Never saw Blood Diamond, and I didn't much like the score to it either. The clip after the trailer sounds awful MV-ish to me. Shame because we know what JNH is capable of.

Poor sound quality? Not from a CD rip. 7 seconds of nothing? Yes, you get that from a CD too. Where's the problem? And Last Crusade is pretty easy to find these days.

If it's the same as the last track, I liked it up until the techno bit started. The string rendition I thought was quite good.

Mark Snow's The X-Files: I Want to Believe Wasn't sure what to expect with this one, but I have a synth album from the series which I quite like and thought an orchestral version should be good, and it is. Some very moving material. Edelman's The Mummy 3 Pretty damn fun score, although as I've already mentioned several times, the orchestra is too padded with synths to really sound great. Right now I've put on HGW's Man on Fire. Why oh why does he have to put an ear piercing drum beat a minute into the main titles? Scared the crap out of me and probably my neighbours too.

Wasn't this argued/debated ages ago? I'm going for Irina's theme for the simple and sole reason that I've been humming it a lot recently, and while quite cliched, is still a good JW theme. Unsurprisingly I don't even know what Mola Ram's theme is. ToD needs to be expanded desperately.

Seems like a blockbuster can't be made these days without Debney rescoring part of it. I'm liking the score more and more - the themes are all very catchy. But I can't get past how synth padded it really is (despite Cohen's insistence to the contrary). Just sounds so flat at some points.

That sucks. Did you go to a low-rate theater? No, it was a decent cinema. Apparently the film snapped/broke and they had to start it from the next reel, or something like that (Burnette will know more about this I'm sure). Turned out we only missed about 3 not very important minutes, but still.

I give this a 4/5 or 8/10 on IMDB. It really doesn't deserve the 'greatest movie of all time' thing that's being hurled around. I actually enjoyed Wall-E more than this. Some really fine action sequences and a brilliant performance from Ledger, but somehow, like Indy 4, it was missing something to make it a truly great movie. I also felt Christian Bale had almost nothing to do in this one. It was definitely Ledger and Eckhart's movie.

Finally saw the Dark Knight. Well, we saw the first 20 minutes twice because the film just stopped completely near the end of the Joker's first scene with the mob guys, followed by 10 minutes of confusion, then restarted with an unknown number of minutes missed out. So we (and I think around half the audience) went into an adjacent showing that started 15 mins later. Anyway, Ledger's performance was hyped for a good reason - this guy was a superb actor and I think a posthumous oscar nomination is coming. The film generally met my expectations, although I think those hyping it as the greatest film of al l time are going too far. Surprisingly, the music worked great, although the Joker's 'theme' is definitely more of a musical sound effect. There were points where I thought the story was plodding along a little bit, and there was clearly a lot to tell, but the performances were great and the action sequences were magnificently staged. Lucas needs to go to the Nolan school of filmmaking as far as I'm concerned.

Man, whoever did that should bloody regenerate themselves. And no there was no preview over here. Just straight from the 'looking down' view to the 'to be continued' thing and the credits.

I've heard a few cues from this, and some is actually quite good. Problems: Why half synth a lot of the time? Isn't the theme that opens the first track exactly the same as JNH's Lady in the Water Blue World theme? The 'main' theme is also just a bit too cheesy... I like the romantic side of things, and how 'fluid' some of the action seems to be. I'll catch the film when the Blu-ray is ripped.

Interesting definition of swashbuckling. I really like Jungle Chase and Whirl, but much of the rest of the score remains fairly unexciting to me (well, except Irina's theme, very memorable now), and I'm sorry but that finale cue bores the pants off me; I'm not hearing what others seem to be. But then the final scene nailed the whole film as a bit of a disappointment overall, so that's not surprising.

4 stars Again, not one I've listened completely through, but superb for what it is.

I don't even want to see those two. I was going to see Dark Knight last night, but unsurprisingly the only two performances we could realistically get to sold out before we left. Apart from that, and probably the next Potter movie, there's not much left this year that I'm excited about. There have been a lot of very crappy movies this year. I still don't understand how stuff like 'Meet Dave' and '<insert genre> Movie' get greenlit. But then last year's summer season was very hot, with the 3 'threequels', Transformers and Potter 5.

4 stars I've never given it the full 2 disc listen, but the bits and pieces I have heard were great.

I'm currently in IT, but my heart really lies in the movie industry. My experimentations, and particularly activities with the film society at work, have led me to think that my interests and talents are mainly in editing/music (wow...) and the general post-production area. I enjoy most of what I do at the moment, but I can't help thinking that in a reasonable number of years' time I won't be working here any more - I just love the technical aspects of making movies too much. And I really do miss that type of movie where you can tell an actor is having a lot of fun in the role through their performance, and is really taking it seriously. It makes me as a viewer, think that the film and story are more worth my time. We're right behind you Dave

I have no regular routine for watching movies, but since I got my unlimited card, an average of twice a month in the cinema, and once a week at home. I listen to music too much for film viewing to be a regular thing.
