  1. No way. Lucas might want to make money, but Spielberg and Ford would never agree. The Potter movies have books. Indy doesn't.
  2. Probably collapsed under legions of Williams fans desperate for the ultimate truth, and deciding whether to take their suicide pills
  3. I'm not sure who wrote it, but I really liked it anyways. Put it this way: I won't be disappointed if I start playing the OST in 2 months and hear that.
  4. Not to join the anti-Zimmers, but think that changes my expectations of the score from 0 (when I saw the trailer) into the negative numbers. Oh, I forgot to include The Happening in my list. Should be a fantastic score if their track record continues.
  5. You're right, didn't notice that. I guess the polar opposite comments made my mind not see it. My question still stands however.
  6. What a surprise. I'm looking forward to Indy 4, Wall-E, Prince Caspian (Chris, you're not alone in liking it. True, there's some MV elements but I still enjoy it). Not really excited about the Dark Knight. Zimmer's noise completely overshadowed whatever the hell it is JNH did on that movie.
  7. I've always found it funny when someone asks me what kind of music I listen to - it always falls into two categories: those who never noticed it but think it's kind of neat, and those who think you're from Mars. I bring this up because of some comments I got on a video I posted on youtube a while back at http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=rBwlBJ0-pQ4#GU5U2spHI_4, basically an isolated score of the Doctor Who chase scene. Notice that one guy had never noticed the music before but thought it was 'good', whereas the other person wonders where the words are - misses the point completely IOW. Just why do you think it is that so many people don't realise movies have music in them?
  8. Just wondered whether any of our 'insiders' had any more accurate ideas. Oh well. Get realistic with Lucas people - the average person on the street probably doesn't even know who he is. People will see this movie.
  9. I usually would rather the film version of just about anything, unless of course it's tracked. It really bugs me actually when I see a film, then listen to the score, only to find they've replaced an instrument or done some other meddling. I can get very attached to a certain sound with a certain picture. Why can't these damn directors be grateful for the blood, sweat and (banging at keyboards/sharpening pencils) that these composers go through? A good recent example of this is JNH's I Am Legend. What music there is in the film seems to be either some alternate version or has some element removed, e.g. choir, strings. One section s on the album twice with 2 different orchestrations, ad in the alternate cut of the movie with a third variation. It gets obsessive sometimes....
  10. Anti-Lucas backlash - from whom? We may hate him as music geeks, and I doubt the rest of the world does. I agree that Ford's nothing like the star he used to be though. I reckon the film will do well, but not set any kinds of records. I'm also a tad sceptical about the casting of LaBeouf. He looks a little young for the role, what with that moustache, but I guess we'll see. On a sort of related note, does anyone know how much time JW had to write the score? We heard something about him starting in October, and of course we know when they recorded, but apart from that... ?
  11. The only thing I'm nervous about is the album presentation, given his dismal selections from the last few years.
  12. The lawyer guy getting yanked off the toilet Lots of shots of dinosaurs ripping other dinosaurs Don't remember too much about it, but any stuff like that which might 'disturb' a kid.
  13. My brother and I were disappointed by this episode. Sure, it explained what Michael is doing on the boat but nothing else actually happened. It wasn't a cliffhanger either - it felt like there was another 5 minutes in that.
  14. 201: A Space Odyssey. Ok, what just happened for that last two hours? *goes off to read wikipedia*
  15. The BBC edits these moves to hell. Last time I saw Jurassic park on TV it had every single decent shot edited out. I'm currently watching 2001: A Space Odyssey. Weird film. Lost is on tonight as well. Screw Indy!
  16. I'm excited about the movie. First Indy cinema experience will rock. I'm not going to make any judgement on the score - come on people, it's crazy. I could understand completely if we were judging based on a 9 second midi of the crystal skull theme.
  17. I'm looking forward to the score... and this board needs it bad.
  18. Kloser's 10,000 BC Surprisingly engaging score with some terrific action.
  19. Supposedly 15 easter eggs. It's possible. Not all of it. Besides, I like my mp3s.
  20. Oh it's much more than the opening theme. There's some beautiful piano work and the last couple of tracks are a great ride. Serenity.. just looked it up on IMDB and it almost looks worth seeing. I can imagine how a score for such a movie might work great within its context, and not so much away from it though. As you said, it's all too often about directorial demands. There seem to be many composers these days who just need to get onto a film with a decent budget and more freedom with the music.
  21. Meh... If it's itunes only, I'll get it some other way. It's mp3 or nothing for me.
  22. Now that's an analogy that I think would apply well to a certain other composer. People here don't like them because of a stereotype, but there are smaller scores that you wouldn't easily recognise as by them. I can picture people then throwing out the album and thinking 'crap... I like a ******** score, what's happened to me...*gasp*'. I like Newman's scores to Galaxy Quest, Ice Age and Brokedown Palace (that one's really beautiful). The promo from Bowfinger is also a little bit of fun, although the movie didn't really live up to my expectations. He doesn't really excite me as a composer, but I would be interested in any work from him that fell into these kinds of genres- and no, Norbit is not one of them. Haven't seen it of course but it looks like a perfect way to throw 2 hours down the toilet.
