chinaismine reacted to crumbs in When you listen to Temple of Doom, do you skip “Anything Goes” ?
It's a clever subversion too, because (outside a brief glance of patrons sitting at a table) it's designed to give the impression you're about to enter the titular "Temple of Doom," complete with JW's 'scary' music as the camera moves into the 'fire.'

Clearly the nightclub dance is intended to parallel the human-sacrifice 'dance number' in the actual Temple. @Bellosh already pointed out the connection between the heart-tearing and the dancers' red ribbons, but there's plenty of other parallels. The percussionist that signals the arrival of the main performer (Willie/Mola Ram).

Some type of monolithic demon with "fire" emanating from its mouth, at the center of the dance:

The pose in front of the 'demon'!

You could make the case that Willie running down the ramp carrying that giant red ribbon behind her is an abstract representation of this:

It's a reverse of the sacrificial dances in Peter Jackson's King Kong (you first see the natives performing the sacrifice on Skull Island, then later a bunch of actors performing a whitewashed version on stage).

Jim Nova (https://jimnova.com/about/) is a huge John Williams fan and is a trombonist in the Pittsburgh Symphony.

Fun video and a great performance!

    From the YouTube page
Turns out that many S.E. Shires trombone artists are huge football fans! So I decided to take my trombone arrangement of the NBC Football Theme, Wide Receiver, by John Williams (of course!) and expand it into a 10 part version! We all may root for different NFL teams, but we're all on the Shires Team!

chinaismine reacted to Thor in What did Australia do to John Williams' The Mission!?
I don't think Williams' piece is particularly timeless. It's a fine piece in and of itself, but generally feels outdated. It's also a very US-centric piece. I can't imagine such a wildly bombastic theme, as if a remnant from an 80s adventure film, would go over particularly well in non-US countries, and certainly not in Norway.

I think Röyksopp's music for NRK is by far the best logo music we've ever had for news in this country.

That one's disappointing in its tameness and felt outdated from the first day it aired. Perhaps it would have been better if they had updated their samples library since the 90s.

JW's take on the genre, on the other hand, has quite a timeless quality to it, no doubt partially due to the use of a real orchestra.

I read an early script for it.  Indy has given up and moved to a remote island to die.  The real hero comes to talk sense into him.  Meanwhile, Indy's son Mutt has gone evil and spends half the movie using his army to chase down three cars that never exceed 20mph.  It is mind-blowing stuff.

Oh, and Indy dies at the end of fatigue.

Ugh why did Jim feed JW the same boring line about writing with pencil and paper? JW's spoken on this subject so many times already.
Edit: JW pretty much confirmed that he wants Ep 9 to be his last SW score. He said "9 will be quite enough for me, and Disney will probably want to take it further." And JW doesn't believe what Kylo Ren said about Rey's parents. He hopes Ep 9 will reveal who her parents really are.
