It did!  JW conducted Scherzo for Motorcycle and Orchestra, A New Beginning and Throne Room and Finale.  The pre-concert national anthem performance was also one of JW's arrangements though he didn't conduct that.

I would love to hear Williams some day be able to say to these people:
Oh angel babies those a cappella renditions of Crimebuster from Heartbeeps, The Training Montage from SpaceCamp and Killing of Marcel from The Images were fantastic!

chinaismine reacted to Will in John Williams to Score Kobe Bryant short film "Dear Basketball"
The thing that really struck me as I watched the film (and forgive me if I sound a little corny) was the emotions. I knew about the rape case. I knew that it was possible that Kobe had done some bad things.

Yet, aside from larger questions of whether Kobe is a "good person," that doesn't mean that the emotions displayed in the film weren't completely genuine. Kobe realized his life dream. And now he's looking back and saying thank you. It's all really quite inspiring, and quite probably completely from the heart (although we can never be sure).

Sometimes in life you have to learn to separate the message from the messenger. We expect people to be perfect and then get our hopes crushed when they aren't. We lose our trust.

Every time I see John Williams make one comment that isn't 100% humble, or every time I see that a politician I admire took money from special interests, it's pretty crushing. I will be honest.

Worst of all, one would imagine that nearly every famous person has some major moral failing, even if it hasn't been revealed. So there's a constant cloud of suspicion in my mind.

But it doesn't have to be that way. Ultimately, one, we don't really know whether any celebrity is a good person, regardless of what's been revealed publicly. Even people who do terrible things can reform themselves. So we should be hesitant to judge too strongly the moral character of a person we've never met, even as we support appropriate legal punishment for rape and other crimes if they are proven to have occured.

Second, as I said, it should be possible to separate the message from the messenger. The messenger need not be even nearly perfect for the message to be perfect, or at least worth considering.

    Very cool!

I keep thinking back not too long ago to 2015 when we had so much concern for his health. He was cancelling things left and right, looking and sounding a little frailer than usual. I was definitely coming to terms with the idea that he may be about ready to quit conducting by 2016, and keeping my fingers crossed that the same wouldn't be true about composing.

Two years later, look at him. Not just physically, but mentally he continues to have the endurance and enthusiasm to multitask that has always inspired me. What are the odds that somebody with that much talent would ALSO have pretty much unlimited monster success leading to the greatest musical resources at his fingertips AND a variety of opportunities and projects to utilize them AND blessed with longevity in life AND a passionate work ethic that has kept him even wanting to give music to the world in his "retirement years" AND an amiably grounded and humble attitude throughout it all?

Seriously, what the fuck? I can't help but think about Jerry, James, Basil, Kamen, and too many others who died too soon. Elliot Goldenthal, Don Davis, Bruce Broughton et al who should be working more with better film opportunities and aren't. Thank god Ennio's still going strong, of course it'd be nice if he were a little more high-profile but who's complaining?

And then there's John Williams. Every year he's looking more and more like some miracle man. A superhuman! But in a way that cheapens the remarkable career achievements and life's blessings on this sweet, unassuming man, and the struggles that he's had like anyone else. At any rate, he is rather special and I've been feeling grateful to call myself a fan lately. When I was 10 years old, one of my favorite things to daydream about on the bus and in school was the new John Williams CD coming out. Now I'm 26 and it's one of my favorite things to daydream about in the car and at work.

Man I just love this guy! John Williams is awesome.

Man, JW is really getting around! I guess this is how it usually is but in my whole time as a fan prior to this year he has a had a very limited concert schedule (Boston and Tanglewood only). Wow, 85 and still going strong!

chinaismine reacted to Will in John Williams begins recording Star Wars Episode VIII score today in Los Angeles
Could be Episode VIII related! The sheet music says "Star Wars," so it's either that, TFA, or RO (and I don't think JKMS worked on RO, although I could be wrong, and TFA's sheet music had a different cover in this photo).

Is this a lot of timpani?

You can also see that "Don Williams" is written on one of the timpani. He played on TFA and RO, and presumably is doing TLJ as well.
