Yeah, I was at the concert too and this Twitter guy is way off. Nightscape has the quote correct.

chinaismine got a reaction from Gnome in Plaid in What's your MP3 Listening Quality?
I rip all my CDs into FLAC using EAC. My goal is to have a perfect digital archival copy so I never have to take the CD out of its case again. If I want smaller files (for mobile listening), I just re-encode from the FLAC.

chinaismine reacted to composeradrian in The United States Army Field Band Premieres Force Awakens Music Live
Well, despite my position, I have a limited info, but it was kind of a perfect storm. We're part of consortium of bands that will be premiering some of this music over the next few months. It was always the plan to release the music, which is why some of it was done, but pulling off this early had a bit of knowing the right people and the context. With the Midwest Clinic being the venue and Hal Leonard being present at the conference, the fact we were hosting a "Film Music in Concert Setting" with Tim Simonec on the day of the premiere seemed to make everything click. I know the 16 DEC performances (with much higher attendance and visibility) was denied for premiering the music. But last tune on a film music program the day of premiere worked out...
I should add that it is easier to speak of this in a past tense, because any time before 17 DEC, I would of told you none of this was happening (and even then, it was quite possible it wouldn't despite having the music).
You'll be able to look forward to the Marine Band putting a bit more of this music sometime in the spring

chinaismine reacted to composeradrian in The United States Army Field Band Premieres Force Awakens Music Live
Full disclosure: arranger here at the Army Field Band. We got the OK just one week before this performance, with Score and parts over email., with stipulation it would only be performed on day of the film debut (17 DEC). With that said, all of our gear was being packed into to trucks that same day we got the OK, so we got a quick 10min of rehearsal (as we had a total of 4 programs to still go through) before they would see it again at tech rehearsal on Tues 15 DEC. So the performance is actually the 3rd time in front of the music.
Yeah, the audio is not the greatest. Lot of red tape with how recordings are handled, not to mention, this isn't an actual concert hall by any means. Glad you guys enjoyed it!

chinaismine reacted to karelm in Giacchino praises Williams
You know what's really insulting? Williams calling JJ "baby". Baby's have no control over their body functions and leave poop everywhere, spill milk, and break things. Is that what he thinks of JJ?

chinaismine reacted to Incanus in The Force Awakens Disney Records OST
Our refined and finely articulated ways when it comes to music discussion regarding John Williams are far superior to anything else found on the subject on the internet. The boors and heathens outside the walls of this fortress of sophistication and high culture will never fathom the correct and proper way of addressing the Maestro's work in the style that does justice to its masterful brilliance.

chinaismine reacted to crumbs in The Force Awakens film to feature "Cantina Song" written by Lin-Manuel Miranda & JJ Abrams
Embossed packaging. Fold out posters. Dialogue tracks with sound effects. Music not even written by Williams on the OST. It's true. All of it.

chinaismine reacted to mrbellamy in The Force Awakens film to feature "Cantina Song" written by Lin-Manuel Miranda & JJ Abrams
Bomb dropped: JJ Abrams just revealed on Fallon that the jazz number was not actually written by Williams but by Lin-Manuel Miranda of In the Heights and Hamilton fame....along with JJ himself (?!?!)
Apparently what happened is Williams had told Abrams he preferred to focus on the score (and Abrams did throw in a "JJ Baby" when he was quoting him ) and not have to also write the cantina music. Then not long after that JJ happened to see Hamilton, bumped into Miranda who made an offhand joke about writing a cantina tune, not knowing Williams didn't really want to write it or that there would be such a sequence in the film. And then Abrams literally said "now there is this cantina song that Lin-Manuel Miranda and I wrote."
So erm...wow!
