  1. How do you like the scrore by Don Davis, incorporating JW's original themes? I'm interested, since I do have the CD but never listen to it. f course, it can't compare to the first two scores, but is it any good???
  2. Gongs or no gongs, I think the important thing is what JW DOES with the gongs.
  3. I'm sure most of it isn't Doyle's. The only piece that might be his is the second one, which sounds like something up Doyle's alley. I don't know, but I have a suspicion that ALL of the music in the trailer is by Doyle. If it was a temp track, why wouldn't they just use snippets of John Williams' previous three scores? Also, the recording for this picture is wrapped up, right? It doesn't make sense that, at this point, they're still using temp music in the trailer. And I agree with you, I'm not particularly impressed with the music, (I just get goosebumps thinking what JW might have come up with) but the movie itself seems to be well enough made. The music sounded kinda tacky, and I tell you, I only got goosebumps in the last five seconds or so when I heard Hedwig's Theme again . . . which shows you once again what JW is capable of. Other than that, no memorable themes here (like Double Trouble), although the classical-sounding ball music might come close. LOL
  4. So I saw the trailer -- looks pretty good, I think. I'mdefinitely gonna watch this, if only because I'm partly Japanese myself.Oh, the music in the trailer wasn't by any chance by JW, was it? Sounded kinda wild, like, I dunno, African jungle music or something (perhaps Congo?). Does anyone know who wrote it for which movie? I thought Steven Spielberg was executive producer, but is credited as producer -- I wonder what his involvement was, exactly, what with him being busy the entire time filming WotW, and now Munich. But I feel it . . . it's gonna be a great movie. Definitely a candidate for Best Picture 2005 and, possibly, Best Score, as well. What's your opinion?
  5. On the very top of my want-list is the Temple of Doom OS, closely followed by the 1995 reissue edition of Raiders. I only have the original Raiders OS and the Last Crusade. Obviously these are some of my favorites.
  6. Maybe I'm being naive here, but are there any JW-related material on this new DVD, which wasn't on the previous edition???
  7. I've got the 6GB mini iPod, and I ONLY listen to JW on my iPod -- which is really, really great. I don't put my CD on at all anymore . . . how 'bout you???
  8. I know. He's executive producing it, but still . . . I think it's gonna be a great picture.
  9. I probably would, because of Spielberg. If there's one person I admire more than JW, then it's Spielberg. But it's funny how we tend to regard movies more highly just because of the score -- if it's done by John Williams. LOL
  10. If -- I repeat: IF -- this had been a stab at Williams, then this tells us more about Patrick Doyle than about JW. And also, I think if Doyle chooses not to use any of the older Williams-themes (except for the Hedwig's Theme, which is a must), that's quite understandable. After all, he is one of the top film composers himself and wants to come up with his own stuff -- otherwise it might turn out to be like in the case of CoS, to wit: Music composed by John Williams, Adapted and Conducted by Patrick Doyle. And that's certainly not what we (and his fans) expect. Oh, by the way, for the record: as good as PD might be, I don't think he'll ever measure up to JW.
  11. Wow. Everybody here seems to know JG. I think I'm gonna start my own collection!!!
  12. Which Goldsmith CDs do you have? Can you name & rate them? Recently, I saw the CDs of Congo, The 13th Warrior and Omen II in a used CD store. They sold for 5 to 8 Euros each. Should I get them? So far, I have Poltergeist and Basic Instinct. I like them a lot, although they can't possibly compare to a John Williams. Thanks.
  13. Huh . . . me neither.
  14. The winners -- have you gotten the CDs yet? I havent!!!
  15. JAY LENO rocks!!! So does Dakota Fanning, who mentioned John Williams on HIS show!!! 8O 8O
  16. For me, when I'm headed somewhere, when I'm sitting in the bus or subway, when I'm doing household chores, I listen to JW. It makes everything so DRAMATIC and EXCITING!!!
  17. Jurassic Park Schindler's List The Phantom Menace Attack of the Clones Revenge of the Sith all 3 Harry Potter movies
  18. I've been listening to John Williams ever since I was like eleven or so, when I discovered Jaws and E.T. Then came Jurassic Park, and I pretty much listened to him all the time, and I started collecting the albums. In the mid- to late nineties (before Star Wars came out) I temporarily lost interest, but ever since Star Wars and Harry Potter I've been kinda crazy about JW. I listen to him every day, whenever I can. I can't imagine NOT listening to his music anymore. How about that? I guess I'm addicted.
  19. Don't you have the DVD? The trailer is on it somewhere. Really? Backdraft? I'd never thought of that. It's Zimmer, but it sure sounds cool.
  20. The thing is, in this case, even if he doesn't choose Spielberg, it's still Spielberg -- for Spielberg's executive producing Geisha. But it's a moot point anyway, since Williams is doing both.
  21. That's what I said!!! And btw, look who's coming around!!!
  22. Did John Williams write the music that can be heard during the "Lost World" trailer? I think that piece is played nowhere in the film itself. Does anyone know? I remember when the trailer came out eight years or so ago, I was really thrilled about it; when it wasn't on the soundtrack, I was kinda disappointed.
  23. It's definitely a candidate for Best Score 2005!!!!
