There are more obvious and maybe better choices, but I feel I want to go with Home Alone.

There's a lot of nostalgia for me with this opening, it was one of the films I would watch on repeat as a younger lad. I love the way the movie's logo slowly moves into frame under the moon and then clicks into place, synced perfectly with the music.

Do you know Cole Porter? He's written hundreds of songs. And half of them sound similar to each other.

I think calling this an arrangement or a reworking is going a bit too far. They're just similar. At least that's what I think.

Yep. Like, it's still a great cue in abridged form, but the full version doesn't feel choppy or overlong or anything. And the material missing from the OST is pretty fantastic, particularly as you get to the final stretch of that material. You really get a sense of Eddie's desperation, and of his impending grisly demise.

I think condensing a 2 hour score into a 74-minute album is sort of an art. Some people just complain about the fact that the music is not complete... But that's really not the point. The fact that the composer, the creator of the music himself, put in the effort to assemble the album makes me value it more (it'd be a whole different story, if Shawn Murphy, Ken Wannberg, or even Spielberg himself was doing it!). This shows me what he himself deemed important or not, what he wanted to "show off" to his audience, how he would have told the story in a musical way, freed from the constraints of the movie format...

So I would never haughtily look down on the decisions made by the creator himself, even if I may not always wholeheartedly agree with them.

You never listened to it! What do you know?

If one didn't know from watching the movie, one wouldn't even notice anything was missing.... From a strictly musical standpoint, it even makes a certain sense.

Well, just getting the brand-new TLW soundtrack is nice too!

And don't get your hopes too high regarding new information in the booklet, even if you should get it... I'm sure we all already know what there is to know.

If you really want the booklet, you need to go on the auction sites like ebay and try to get the actual Japanese releases from back then... If necessary contacting the seller and asking them about the additional booklet. Otherwise chances are pretty slim, I'd say.

Like I said, I doubt there's much more than that. If there was something else noteworthy, I'm pretty certain I'd remember it! It was just a little booklet that was added to the Japanese edition, probably because it was felt there that the original version was a bit too meager and lacking....

But there's another issue. I'm not even sure this little booklet is still included today. That's what they did in 1997, back when it was just released.

But I don't wanna be negative, I guess anything is possible!

You better not find it now. That would be a terrible way to repay TSMefford for his sacrifice!

I hope it's not like, just one really vague sentence about the scoring sessions that comes out weirdly translated.

I stated this a couple of times here over the years, and I still remember where I first got this information, too!

Back in 1997, when the OST album of TLW was released, I got the Japanese version. While everything else was the same as the regular Western version (cardboard case, 3D Dinorama, etc.), the Japanese edition had one big difference: it included a special little booklet with tons of info, although, naturally, it was all in Japanese. It  contained no pics at all, it was just a little booklet with text, maybe around 10 pages. I managed to get it translated back then, and while most ot it was general information about JW, his life and career, as well as a short overview of the Making of TLW, it also talked a little about the recording sessions. And that's where I got this info... How the percussionists that were called in struggled with some of the more complex passages and how JW had them perform it over and over again until they were all but getting ready to throw in the towel! I don't think it referred to any particular passage, though, I just assumed for myself that it's gotta be "Sarah's Rescue." I forgot what else was said, but that's one piece of info that's somehow always stuck in my memory.

I wish I still had that booklet, but I lost it many years ago, of course. Hell, that was almost a quarter of a century ago, I was in my early teens!

    Edit:

What do you know, these days if you look hard enough, you can find almost anything on the Internet. From a Japanese online auction site, pics of the Japanese TLW booklet...

At the Oscars they had a dance troupe perform the cue to a medley of other nominated scores by some choreographer lady called Debbie Allen.
