  1. The Imperial March (Darth Vader's Theme) as heard in TESB is the Single Greatest Melody/Theme/Motif Ever.
  2. It is good to see that Geisha is doing well. I am glad that someone is giving it some love. God knows the critics and the general viewing public didn't! Things are looking better and better for JW!
  3. Apart from Clooney's win, this has been a dull ceremony. Jon Stewart has been a great host so far though. Also, it is sad to say, that with Sith's loss in best make-up, no Star Wars film will ever be eligible to be nominated or win an Oscar ever again. The fact that JW did not get a single nomination for his three brilliant prequel scores is just sad. Here's to hoping that JW takes it home. It looks like he may have a chance since Brokeback is 0-2.
  4. I am sorry, nightscape 94. I began typing my original post before I saw yours come up. Your post is quite a bit shorter than mine, you know.
  5. I apoligize if some of you may have already read this news, but it finally looks like they are getting the ball rolling on Jurassic Park 4. Three websites have reported news that Frank Marshall, a frequent co-producer for Spielberg, has confirmed that the the film finally has a good script and is scheduled to begin filming in the fall 0f 2007 with a summer 2008 release. Here is the article from IMDb. 'Jurassic Park 4' To Begin Shooting Next Year? Director Steven Spielberg will reportedly begin filming the fourth installment of Jurassic Park next year. The Munich director is also currently getting ready to resurrect the Indiana Jones franchise with Harrison Ford later this year. Producer Frank Marshall confirms the script for the next version of the dinosaur epic has been finalized: "It has a good script now, so we should have that one up and running next year, for release in 2008." The character of Lexie, the granddaughter of Sir Richard Attenborough's character, is expected to be the lead role in the new film, according to Moviehole.net. Dan's JP3 Page and Steven Spielberg Fansite also have articles about JP4. From Dan's JP3 Page Marshall: JP4 in 2008 More JP4 tidbits from Spielberg producer Frank Marshall, this time from the London Free Press, where yesterday a quick article asked him about JP4. Marshall responds: "[JP4] has a good script now, so we should have that one up and running next year for release in 2008." First of all, I would like to say that I am overjoyed to hear this news. I do not believe that the JP franchise is dead. The first one is my favorite movie, the second one was an excellent sequel that is very underrated, and the third one was alright. While I believe that the third could have been much better had it had a better story and been longer, it is not as bad as everyone else says it is. It is certanly better than any of those Jaws sequels! I think the fact that Spielberg is much more involved this time is a good sign. It is obvious that he has been very patient while trying to get a much better script written, complete with several great scenes from the novels that never made it to the big screen. Next off, it seems to me that IMDb thinks that Spielberg will direct this. I do not believe this for a second. However, if he does, I will be so happy! A director has yet to be officially announced, but I hope that it is someone good. Heck, I'd even welcome Joe Johnston back! Also, I really, really hope that Lex will not be the main character. Not trying to be sexist, but in my mind the main character has always got to be Grant or Malcolm when it comes to JP. If not them then maybe Nick Van Owen could return. Vince Vaughn is a great actor. Now time for my main question. Do any of you think that JW might score JP4?I believe that there is a good chance of that happening. Here is why. First of all, now that Indy 4 has been announced for 2007, I believe that JW will take the year 2006 off. If he does get a film scored by the end of this year, it will not be a Spielberg film. Maybe a Chris Columbus film or something. Next, we know that by 2008 he will already have one Spielberg film scored (Indy 4) and I think that Spielberg will probably get that Abe Lincoln biopic made by the end of 2007 as well. So that is two Spielberg projects out of the way. Also, he is rumoured to be scoring James Cameron's Battle Angel in 2007. Anyone know if that is likely? So, unless JW comes back to Potter (which I doubt he will since 2007 is already loaded for him anyways) it looks like that the year 2008 is free for him. Why not score JP4? While I believe Don Davis is the best successor to a franchise originally scored by JW, I want JW back. He could not do JP3 because he was busy with A.I. and Harry Potter (although I still think he could have squeezed it in there). I predict maybe one Spielberg film in 2008, so why not get another JP score in there as your second for the year? Also, I read somewhere that during an interview JW was asked about JP4 and he said that it was a genre he had always wanted to get back into. Anyone know if that is true? Is sure hope so. Also, why in the world is Frank Marshall a producer for JP4? I know he works with Spielberg a lot, but he did not work on the first three. It was always his wife, Kathleen Kennedy. Not that it matters or anything. He is a fine producer, but he seems to be a little too obsessed with the Matt Damon Bourne movies. I am sorry that my post was so long, but there was a lot I wanted to say and I have a lot of questions that I hope you guys can answer. The main thing to discuss is how busy will 2008 be for JW and whether or he will be able to squeeze another magnificent JP score in there. Your discussion will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  6. What the hell is going on with Schindler's List? It was never my favroite of the '90s scores, but Top 5 no doubt. I though everyone loved it. Perhaps another misunderstading is in order? People voting for their favorite again? I guess it's not that big of a deal because now my favorite score, JP, may have a better chance at winning!
  7. Happy Birthday JW! You are just like wine. You get better with age.
  8. You got that right, king mark. When I first became a fan of JW in 2001, I looked up his awards and noticed that he did not win the Golden Globe for Schindler's List. That was also shocking to learn. Hopefully this win will give him a better chance at winning an Oscar, too.
  9. Congratulations to John Williams for his 4th Golden Globe win! I was so shocked. I did not think he would win. He kept his acceptance speech short and sweet.
  10. Star Wars Return of the Jedi Revenge of the Sith The Phantom Meance The Empire Strikes Back Attack of the Clones
  11. I guess I would have to say that I fell in love with film music when I was only 7 years old. That was when I first saw Jurassic Park. I loved the theme for the film and I still consider it the best complete JW score (his best piece is "The Imperial March"). I remember when my dad first hooked up our surround sound. He put in JP and fast forwarded to the end credits. I heard that beautiful theme all the way upstairs in my room. What a great first way to test out your new surround sound, eh?
  12. First of all, I would like to say that even thought I joined back in January, I am new to the site as far as posting goes. I got to make a few posts until I had some PC problems and couldn't get logged back in. I have been reading all of you guys' posts all year. I got on today and tried again for the first time in months, and what do you know? It worked! Back to my question. Did JW really say this about Harry Potter? "I respect the novels too much to continue doing music for the films." - John Williams I read that over on the HBP board at IMDb. I do not believe it, but I thought that I would check with you guys just in case. You guys are the true JW experts. I have been a fan of JW for only 4 years while some of you have been listening to him since the Original Star Wars trilogy. This is the best JW site that I can find and I will continue to visit every day. I do not know if JW has actually read the HP books, but if he has I can only hope that he is like me and by that I mean he prefers the books but still enjoys the films as well. I personally doubt he has had time to read them being rather old and very busy. Besides, if he believed that then he would not have scored POA because it had a lot of stuff cut from the book and was very rushed (aside from all that I still liked it). I know that he scored Memoirs of a Geisha because he wanted to venture into something different (I think Spielberg being the exec. producer may have something to do with that also), but I hope he returns to the franchise. I would be happy if he skipped the next two and did at least the last film. I just can't imagine watching (or reading) the final battle between Harry and Voldemort without a JW score in the background. One last thing. I also read that JW is planning to retire after Indy 4 in 2007 at the age of 75. I do not believe this either. He seems to love his work and is in very good health for his age. I think he will compose until he dies.
  13. It sure is. I got it off spielbergfilms.com. The administrator there found it somewhere and made it his avatar. I love it. I proves that Liam Neeson would make a great Abe Lincoln. I hope Spielberg makes that movie!
  14. Congrats to John Williams on his 43rd nomination. Let's all hope he is not robbed again! I myself prefer the score for The Terminal, but POA was extraordinary. I am aware that your chances of winning go way down if you are nominated for two. When I first heard the news, I thought he had no chance to win since POA is a sequel and all that, but I thought about what someone else said before. The Academy pretty much gave Jackson the Best Picture and Best Director Oscars and Howard Shore the Best Original Score Oscar for ROTK for the whole trilogy. So, even thought the HP films aren't a trilogy, JW scored 3 of them and if he wins for POA then that would be like an award for scoring all three HP films. It looks like his biggest competition is Finding Neverland. A friend of mine saw Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events and said that the music wasn't very good. The only other nominated score I heard was The Passion of the Christ, which was excellent, but it seems like it doesn't have much of a chance due to the film's controversy. The Village might have a chance though IMO, because it was not nominated for anything else, so the score must have been great. Even if John does not win, he still has plenty of chances left in his career to get another Oscar. Next year he's got WOTW. Call me crazy, but the if the Academy gets their act together and nominates him for ROTS, that would be grand. It will be the best 2005 score and it is the last SW movie ever! There's also that 1972 Olympics in Munich movie and the Abe Lincoln biography that Spielberg is planning on.
  15. The ending for E.T. is, without a doubt, Spielberg's best ending. The music played during the scene is the best part of JW's whole score in the film. Spielberg filmed the movie in sequence so that the actors would really be sad when shooting the ending when E.T. left. They are not acting, they really were sad to see E.T. go. That scene, along with the end of T2: Judgement Day, is the only scene that actually brought tears to my eyes. Also, I agree with the poster above. How in the world could you leave off the end of Jurassic Park??? The scene where the helicopter heads off into the sunset with the pelicans is great. However, the scene where the T-Rex roars real big in the visitor's center and the banner "When Dinosaurs Ruled The World" falls is spectacular.
  16. I will be looking forward to hearing the score for Batman Begins. Do you think they will reuse Danny Elfman's themes? I hope so. His theme for Batman is great. I know that they are reusing John Williams's score for Superman in 2006.
  17. My favorite TV show is Seinfeld. TV Guide is right about one thing. It truly is the # 1 TV Show of All Time. Seinfeld Friends The Jeffersons The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Family Matters Full House The Simpsons Family Guy South Park
