Battle of Endor has no tracked music The battle of Naboo is a complete mess though... I think there are some unused takes on the trade federation march that may be in that scene. Plus if its not track, it at least it looped.... But as i said, it MAY be tracked. OK OK. Naboo...

I am talking about the bit near the beginning of the Battle of Endor, near the end of the film. The music is not, as far as I know, tracked.

I still think the shot of the droid army unpacking and marching from Episode I is cool. Sends shivers down my spine. Helped, of course, by the awesome score at that point.

If I understand correctly, the ages go something like this: 1930ish-1950ish: Golden Age. Many of the greatest scores of all time. Also the time when many of the so-called "recognised" classical composers of the age composed for cinema. 1950ish-1975/77 (depending on preference): Silver Age. A time of relative contraction in the popularity of orchestral film music. Many fine scores still recorded, but lots of classical music (classic example being 2001 in 1968) or "period-setting" music (reaching it zenith with American Graffiti in 1973) used instead. All that changed in... 1975/77-present: Bronze Age. Depending on if you see Jaws or SW as JW's breathrough score, these two undoubtedly ushered in the age we are in now, where big, orchestral scores are very much back in vogue. When this age will end is up for debate (not for a long time we all hope).

Hey everyone. Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, have a good Diwali, have a good New Year. Oh, and in a month's time, Happy Tet. Anyway, have been listening again to HP:PS/SS again recently, and have been listening to Harry's Wondrous World (not the COS crap ending version). It must surely be one of the greatest five minutes of music JW has ever written... but anyway. I was wondering what all the themes in it where. So far I have (in chronological order): Hedwig's Theme part B (the theme for Hogwarts Castle) Harry's Wondrous World theme part A (the lyrical theme) Harry's Wondrous World theme part B (the four-note fanfare-type theme) Family Theme Quidditch March Are there any others? And what do the HWW part A and B themes represent?

I've never really got what all the fuss is about it. Horner has only ever written two scores: the Irish/celtic/ethnic one (with the panwhistle theme) and the action/loud one (with the four note motif). The only thing I can see which is special about Titanic is that it has a it bit of both of these, instead of just being one. Someone please enlighten me as to which cues on the album are so good.

You've heard Munich? Wow....
-
That had to be a kick in the pants for Johnny. The same way Maurice Jarre won for A WALK IN THE CLOUDS over Horner's BRAVEHEART back in 1995. But I like them both. The Golden Globes are on a par with the Oscars for crap nominating and winning. Remember ESB and Raiders? Still bitter....

Fingers crossed this will be another classic JW awards season. Makes up for the last few years of painful LOTR arse-licking.
-
JP is in JW's stellar scores. Lost World is in his very good category.
-
Unfortunately, it is unlikely ROTS will get nominated, due to the Academy's chameleon-like (and rather stupid) "previous themes" criterion. Despite it being a fine score, it will not be Williams' Oscar winner this year (he will get nominated for other things though, guarenteed).

Do you think John Williams should do OotP?
batmanand replied to JWfangirl1992's topic in General Discussion
GoF is an unremarkable score. I would much rather have just Harry's Wondrous World than the whole of Doyle's score. JW should do OotP, just to show how much better his music is. Besides, even Doyle was forced to admit that Hedwig's theme defines the HP series, whoever the composer is. -

That's funny, I always thought ID4 was chock-full of great themes. For example.... -
JWFAN Theme free comissioning project #1. Choose the theme!

A theme, a la DOF and BOTH, for the AOTC end battle. -
The most superior statement of Vader's theme?
batmanand replied to BLUMENKOHL's topic in General Discussion
Yes good choice. Maybe not the best statement, but certainly the most menacing. -

ID4 is a great score, but for me suffers from having no great themes (don't particularly like the aliens theme, and the "patriotic" theme again just doesn't do it for me). -
Me too for Airplane. Despite having watched it upwards of 30 times, I still see new jokes ever viewing.

Stargate. A collection of awe-inspiring themes, some nice battle music and nicely ethnically grounded. -
I always used to get confused between Russell Crowe and Kevin Spacey in LA Confidential.

How come Jurassic Park still looks so good?
batmanand replied to Sandor's topic in General Discussion
They didn't try to do too much, they did what they could do very well and Spielberg actually cared about the film when he was making it. -
Change of composer not Williams's choice?
batmanand replied to ChrisAfonso's topic in General Discussion
I think that Newell has forgotten that powered flight has been around for over 100 years. -
Yeah what he said.I enjoy the music, and think that some of it is well-written (the eg "Commodus kills Marcus Aurelius" stuff) but in the main it is not exactly novel.
-
ET. One of the best scores ever. Poltergeist is pretty good, but it is no ET.
-
Doyle has not written one memorable theme for the series. Williams has written at least five. Doyle's score is workable, sometimes quite good (Quidditch World Cup, Neville's Waltz) but often poor. The comment you quoted is ill-informed and just wrong.
